New site Poll
Just trying to see what everyone else out there thinks of the new site. Which way do you like it? Just trying to help out the makers of the site with keeping the people happy.
Any suggestions maybe to help out?
Am I the only one that preferred the old site alot more. I just feel it's to bright and not that easy on the eyes.
Go Warriors.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

New site
However...the new, monochomatic, look doesn't give any separation between the verticle collumns. That's what I notice...the old site clearly had the main topics in the middle, diaries on the right etc. I mean, it's still easy to find everything, but I think more distinction/separation is what we should be looking for.
I'm sorry if you have to change anything, I know the time put in to redesign was with good intentions.

I mostly like the changes
(1) Grey in the left column could be 10-20% darker. It's a bit too subtle now. This might also address some of the other posters' issues with the site's "brightness."
(2) Red as the secondary accent color (in the number of posts, for example): doesn't fit with the palette and just isn't Warriors-ish.
But more importantly...
(3) The LOGO in the upper left. Am I the only one who doesn't like it? First of all, it's not pretty: too many gradients and drop-shadows and the black "GSoM Motto" headline just below it is crowding it. But also, conceptually, it just doesn't capture the spirit of the team or the site. I love the name Golden State 'cos I grew up with it, but we all know we are a BAY AREA team first and foremost. The outline of our fair State has very little to with us. And do we really want SoCal -- our perpetual tormentors -- represented by our logo?
Here, just for fun I futzed around and came up with a rough draft of an alternate logo...
(D'oh, it doesn't appear to be linking properly. Any suggestions, moderators?)
Obviously there'd be copyright issues with the Jumpman, but that could be remedied quickly enough. I thought it captured the spirit of the site better than the existing one. If anyone is still reading this thread, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Perhaps this could be the subject of the next GSoM contest?

That's hot man
We'll come up with something so that everyone can help out and submit their ideas. This is a community space, so we want you all to really enjoy it and have an active role in shaping it to what you want it to be.

would lend themselves nicely to an iconic silhouette.
On the existing logo: I agree with the general consensus that it looks much better on blue, and it is certainly a step up from that Bulls logo bloodsweatndonuts linked to. Still, I guess I'm just a design purist when it comes to outlines, gradient fills, and dropshadows. I think they're way overused, and they tend to give an amateurish look. Why would a lightning bolt have a dropshadow? Or a State for that matter?
Also, conceptually: do people not agree with my previous points re California v. the Bay Area? One of the great things about the THE CITY logo -- in addition to its old-school simplicity (its lack of gradients and dropshadows, for example!) -- is that it's so URBAN. We are a city team -- Oakland/SF -- so much more a state one. And basketball is fundamentally a city game.
Actually now that I think of it, the Bay Bridge would make more sense if we were to go with the "JRich Jumping Over a Bridge" concept. Not quite as iconic and striking as the Golden Gate bridge, and lacking the "Golden" verbal connection, but clearly way more evocative of our real home: Oakland, C-A. (Are there any actual hoops fans in Marin?)
Anyway, blah blah ... when's the contest? The season starts soon! For those who like the original logo, I suggest you include that as one of the options. I know how people love to vote for incumbents (see Bush, George W., as proof).

Sincerest Apologies
Sleepy- Really sorry about that. Check out Apologies: The explicit ad: http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/story/2006/10/8/23434/0809 for the details.
Long story short- we didn't accept the ad, but somehow it popped up on our site.

The more I look at the other SB Basketball sites
If you haven't seen the Bulls Blog logo, do so immediately. It is the silliest thing I have ever seen. Ever. That thing belongs in some sort of competition for the wierdest graphic design concept involving livestock and an I-Book.

Lopsided and too bright
Okay the current changes make the site look lopsided because of the blue and light grey opposing each other. Some stronger horizontal color bars on the right side would help to balance it out. Could ya turn down the bright white volume please. Didn't notice it til this survey though. But once you notice it, it needs to be changed. Should be fun.
