Recap: Warriors 98, Lakers 110 Part Deuce- Keep Ya Head Up Dub Nation!
You all know what went down opening night against the Lakers (see Preview | Recap). It wasn't pretty, but what never ceases to amaze me is how sharp Dub Nation is. Your thoughts in the open thread/ recap were sharp as usual. The diaries have been coming in full force too:
- GSDubz with Nellie pledging to make changes
- RonG with The good, bad, and ugly of last night
- gabezgsw with Don't believe the hype (with a shout out to Flava Flav too!)
- pineriver with Give Nellie Some Time!
- FoyledAgain with An Open Letter to Chris Mullin
There isn't a more passionate and intelligent bunch of fans in the league than us Warriors fans. I just wanted say to Warriors Nation- Keep Ya Head Up!
Here's 5 reasons why there's still reason for optimism for Dub Nation:
1. We've got Nellie holding everyone accountable and GSoM friend Tim Kawakami dropping flash analysis: Don Nelson, at the podium, dazed and furious. Also check out Tim's 3 Options for the Warriors.
I'll pitch in and agree 100% with Tim on this one. I think I've written that pairing Murphy and Dunleavy together is absolutely foolish 14,001 times.
2. We've got The Mask. (Hey, it worked for Jim Carry, maybe it'll work for TMurph!)

3. We won't have to triple team superstars like Luke Walton every night.

4. We've got pride. We don't take things lying down.

5. The Warriors have never lost 2 games in a row at the Oracle Arena- the Blazers better watch out tomorrow night!

Nice track of the day
One of the classic lines that I'm always gonna remember. Even if the guy who wrote it was a dumba$$. Let's go dubs!!
By the way, what's up with the Funleavy headband? Makes him look like one of those Italian soccer players: http://www.sporting-heroes.net/files_footballworldcup/CAMORANESI_M_20040618_GH_R.jpg

reppin the what?
I'm confused about that post...however...
My biggest problem is HOW THE HELL ARE THEY STILL MISSING ALL THOSE DAMN FREE THROWS!?!?!
Isn't there supposed to be some kind of fine for missed free throws this year?
Will there be a running tab? and can the money got to some charity?
Who do I talk to about this?
By the way, I still hate Nellie after the Webber debacle, so he better get this ship going straight quickly

Food for thought!
Obviously some of the key pieces are already there, and I wouldn't want to see JR go, it's just that he should starting making the transition back to the 3 position.
Ok, it's only one game, but we have already had a several mediocre and sometimes just bad seasons of Dunleavy and Murphy. Tim K is right to suggest that O'Bryant and Diogu will be better options in the long run. The W's should start them or let them have lots of PT early on while the schedule is favorable.
Starting line-up at the beginning of Dec:
Baron, Monte, JR, Ike, and POB

Not surprised
Yeah, yeah, we know it's only the first game of the season, but we'd like to reiterate our position that the hiring of Don Nelson was a pitifully weak, unimaginative panic move by Chris Mullin, who is completely in over his head and doesn't know what he's doing.
And we're not haters -- that's the problem. We live and die with this team, and frankly, we don't have much life left in us.
Nellie should never have been hired. He's burnt out. His last two coaching stints (Knicks and Mavs) have ended with him leaving before the end of the season.
And his small-ball system is an anachronism that is not going to work. This isn't 1991 any more. The NBA run-and-shoot is a desperation stop-gap measure and for Mullin and the Warriors to purposely select a coach whose only coaching style EVER has been to take whatever team and whatever roster he has and turn it into a small-ball team. And how many titles has Nelson won with that approach? How many Finals has it even gotten him to?
Yet Mullin, the SF Bay Area sportswriters, and sadly even many fans (who of all people should know better), somehow thought that Nelson could come back to the franchise that he ruined in 1994 with his gruff, unyielding, headstrong, Bushian approach and his inherently flawed strategy and turn this team around. Does anybody really believe that another Nellie meltdown -- one that again irreperably damages for the years - isn't looming in the team's future.
This team needed new blood and fresh ideas. Not warmed-over reruns that have never really worked.

boo lakers
"Ronny Turiaf had just buttoned his shirt after the best game of his NBA career when his cell phone rang."
That's the opening sentence about the GSW's opening loss. Like I said, Ronny doesn't even play for the Warriors. I don't either. Would you be surprised if I told you that over half the population of the USA doesn't play for the Warriors. I think 13 or 14 guys are on their team; that's roughly 2% of the population.
I'm curious why Ronny's phone rang, but I decided not to read anymore of the article. The Warriors lost again and it looks like they're not going to make the playoffs.
