Around SBN: The cost of firing vs. the cost of retaining head coaches

OPEN THREAD: Game #6 - Warriors vs Hornets

Warriors (W-L): 2-3

Hornets (W-L): 4-0

Time: 7:30PM PST

Fresh off of a wild rollercoaster ride, the Warriors and Hornets go at it again tonight, except this time it's in the Bay. Poor execution and nervousness cost the Warriors a nice comeback win the other night, but I expect the Warriors to come through tonight if the game is close. This is our house. Things are different.

It's too bad that both Ike Diogu and Mickael Pietrus are questionable for tonight's game. We could really use Ike's glass work (he stepped it up in those limited minutes in OKC) and MP2's great hustle and rebounding. If both Ike and MP2 are inactive, this could be the game we finally see Dajuan Wagner score some buckets in a hurry though. As always it will be interesting.

Your boys Hash and myself will be there tonight courtesy of Hash's boss. They're supposedly amazing seats, so hopefully we'll be close enough to hear what the players and coaches are saying, shake Thunder's hand, take some phat pictures, get head-bopped by inflatable Thunder, capture a few video highlights, and of course sign some autographs for the Warrior Girls.

The Warriors have never lost a game at The Oracle against the Hornets when Hash and I were in attendance, so I'm expecting a win. Let's do this!

Vegas Odds: Hornets favored by 3points.

Predictions:

  • Warriors win by 4
  • If Ike can go, he gets a double-double
  • Warriors Nation gets HYPE tonight at the Arena!
  • Atma and Hash have a great time out!

Make sure to drop your vote for who you think will win and give us your prediction for who will win and by how many points in the Comments.

If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

THROW UP A BIG W!!

Update: The Boxscore

Update 2:

Warriors Win 121-116!!

Just heard him
Some of his comments were interesting. He is definetly not as high on Dunleavy any more, saying he is going to be a 6th man for the time being noting his poor rebounding abilities. And the first guy he mentioned was Biedrins and I believe his quote was something like he is going to be our center for many years.

Barnes Starting?
Count this as a W 114-103 for the Warriors now that Barnes is starting. Hopefully his hustle will show Nelson that he is worthy of the position.

I"m not a Barnes fan..
and just as I was writing that...he got the ball stolen from behind...
He should dribble the ball as less as possible.

Tonights game:
10:07pm
The Golden State Badgers as I refer to them during the hours of 10pm and 11pm are taking part in warm ups.  One guy on their team just shot one over the backboard and into the stands.  I couldn't tell who it was because he still has his warm-up jacket on.  I think I'm going to just say it's Baron Davis because I don't know anyone else on the team.  Actually now that I have a closer look I can tell that it was Coach Don Nelson.  It's funny to see Nelson in a warm-up jumpsuit.  The commentators are saying that Nelson lost a bet with his assistants and has to go through warm ups with the team.  No one's been able to get confirmation on what the bet actually was, but there are various reports that this isn't the first time Nelson has lost a bet like this.  According to Nelson's sophomore year roommate (he asked to remain anonymous) at the University of Iowa Don bet the said roommate that he could spend a week in the shower with the water on as long as someone brought him food.  If Nelson had won the bet--and he didn't--his roommate would have done his laundry for a month.  Because Nelson lost he wasn't allowed to shower until Christmas break.  The bet occurred two days after Halloween and the roommate moved out before the end of November.

Why isn't Biedrins staring?
our center? the man had 6 blocks vs this team and they come out shooting everything with no fear about penetrating?
DAMNIT! I HATE THE FACT THAT I LOVE THIS FRANCHISE!!!

Dunleavy...
doesn't have any confidence in his game...and the PG doens't have any confidence in him either.
Fast break and Dunleavy is wide open for possible 3, BD doesn't even look his way, but instead forces it to the cup for the layup and foul...
BD misses FT, and Dunleavy gets rebound and has open 3, but doesn't take it because BD wants ball back.
He gives it to him and BD forces up another layup and gets fouled.
Not bad basketball, but you expect more out of Dunleavy...

PG battle
man what a fun game. Baron and CP3 going back and forth to see who the better PG is. Baron has 7 assists to 0 turnovers, compared to CP3 with 8 assists and 6 turnovers.

assists
geez the warriors are really racking up the assists tonight. they have 26 assists on 33 made field goals. that's impressive. what's even more impressive is just the 9 turnovers.

Nice win
Monta, Pietrus, and Murph played very well to pick up the slack with JRich out and overall it was just Baron's night!

How did the Ws do it?
Simple...they made their free throws.
Period.

nice win
they almost figured out a way to give it away at the end, but never the less, a nice win. Monta did his thing, and Baron is the man this season. Would have liked to see Dejuan get some playing time, but I'll take the W. Hope we can take it to the Pistons on Saturday, go Dubs!

alright, a win
good win, what a battle between davis and paul! a win is a win, but again we got horribly outrebounded. also, WAY too many threes. that was even worse than last year. sometimes i wish the warriors would shoot a slightly worse percentage because when they shoot that well they feel invincible from the outside. but we made our free throws which was huge. on another note...the refs were horrible tonight!!!! this just in guys: they're big guys out there, they're gonna occasionally hit each other. u don't need to call every little touch!!!

by AJC3317 on Nov 9, 2006 10:15 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

threes
nelson said we had to take open shots when they were created....those threes weren't forced like last year.
last two minutes scared me but great win.  props to air france for the rebound lift!

by redape on Nov 9, 2006 10:24 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

some were good
but in the middle of the fourth they started settling for them. i agree that they made a good percentage of them, but during situations like that when they stop falling it would be nice to see them go for a higher percentage shot.

GOOD WIN!!!
But late in the game.... every time a warrior would chuck up a 3 I would pray for dear bucket! Barnett was right in that, the warriors were totally bailing out a Hornets team-trying to play catch up by shooting so many 3s late in the game. Thank god they finally caught on and stopped before it was too late. I think the main reason why the Warriors won today was the FT shooting AND the high 3pt percentage. Good win overall, and wow... chris paul is the truth.

by ZombieWarrior on Nov 9, 2006 10:23 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

wow
that game was KILLING me.  i swear, those refs were doing everything they could to give the dub to the katrina babies.  I saw so many illegal screens by them, I think they called ONE on chandler.  We shot too many threes, we went for the ball at the same time on rebounds, giving it to them at least three times.  but we shut down Peja, which was huge, and we found out that only good things happen when Baron takes it to the hole.  nice free throw shooting down the stretch.  this team is gonna be GOOD with a healthy JRich and Ike.

Oh, and a big up to Bobby Jackson for that reach in with 25 seconds left.  Good lookin out.  I loved it during Tuesday's game when Fitz said, "Warriors fans remember Bobby Jackson for those years he played with the Kings."  Thanks Fitz, way to imply that Dubs fans are Kings fans by default when the losses pile up.  I still can't stay mad at you though.

Big W!

I didn't see much of the game, but
to those guys arguing about how many bad calls we got, go look at Tuesday nights game and tell me there aren't 3-4 bad calls against the Hornets. It all equaled out.

I'm glad we're 3-3.

I was there tonight...
To the too many three's comments, they were making them. They played well, but the thing that most impressed me was after Baron got the T, he let Nellie do the talking for him. I really think Baron isn't gonna be the diva he was last year. I think he respects Nellie too much. Well, I guess I hope thats the case. They played very good today considering they had Ike and J-Rich in street clothes. I have to give them big ups for the defense tonight. They played with a passion I have not seen them play with in quite a while on the defensive side of the ball. They squandered a few leads, but they never lost focus. Eventually it turned in to a W for the Warriors. I like the mix of line-ups that Nellie used to help fill the void that J-Rich and Ike left not being there. You can tell when they had a defensive mind, because Barnes was out there. And as soon as he hit the floor they had a little more hustle to them. Good win, a very good win.

Oh yeah.
And that ref, he was terrible. There were some god awful calls. I mean downright bad. It didn't help matters that the video guys would play the replays of what happened right after. It was one ref, and not only did he make terrible call after terrible call, he couldn't throw a jump ball for the life of him. Methinks he was drunk.

why are people hatin' on Barnes?
The guy is a legit NBA player! It's not like he was a rookie camp invitee that made the team. The guy has been in the league for a few season now and was just a numbers casuality. The guy can play...period.
When Jrich is healthy...they should just start Monta at 2, Jrich at 3 and Barnes at 4.
Murph, Ike, Piety, Dun and Roberson off the bench ain't bad.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

I missed the Barnes hating?  I don't know much about him but I like his energy. He seemed to help out the last two games.
