Recap: Warriors 97, Nets 105 - What a calamitous ordeal.
(Editor's Note: We as the writers of Golden State of Mind cannot even begin to register our disgust for the collapse that was tonight's fourth quarter. Personally, I don't even think that I have the vocabulary to cover how despondent I am. So for tonight's recap, I have employed the help of thesaurus.com. You probably won't even notice...)
Well I, for one, have to say that I'm truly crestfallen. There's not really much to be said. Tonight, in our third straight road loss, the Warriors came out with three relatively strong quarters of basketball, then minutes before the fourth put their heads together and collectively decided that instead of finishing strong, they would simply vomit all over the court and call it basketball. Amazingly, some of that vomit ended up falling though the hoop yielding whopping 13 point finish.
Way to put an exclamation point on that one boys!
That's some good D there boys.

What happened to our offense? What happened to our shot selection? Is my inference of the faculties of this team spurious? Are we as intermediate as our 12-14 chronicle dictates we are?
At time like this, one can simply sit back and wallow in their worsted anguish. These are the very ilk of matches that we will wish that we would have sealed as the termination of the season nears and we are faced with crunch time. Assuming, of course, there is a crunch time.
Highlights:
-Baron Davis had a very robust game, not counting the collapse in the fourth. Two boards and one dime away from a triple double. Not a big fan of his 8 turnovers though.
-Mike Dunleavy played with a lot of fortitude today and it paid off. 18 points, 10 boards, 3 dimes and a jack is nothing to sniff at!
-I learned about 15 new words by scribing this recount! Next time we blow a game this bad I should be sufficiently armed to exact my disgust without having to consult an alternate authority.
The road trip continues as we move on to Boston. I sure hope we decimate the squadron with a renewed vigor and fury...
...because frankly, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about anymore.
Warrior Wonder
Baron, if it weren't for your 8 turnovers and uninspired performance in the fourth, I'd give it to you. But the boxscore isn't everything. I'm giving it to Dunleavy in the hopes that whatever has lit a fire under him today continues. He's not where we want him, but today was a step in the right direction.

That about sums up the way we all feel! Don't let it get to you bro. Right before the game I made a big pot of sweet potato tamales so lucky for me I had something to take my mind off this sad golden state of affairs( something told me it was gonna be a rough night)

You guys are too harsh on BD
Look on the bright side, Denver is going to drop out of the 7th spot into draft-territory for a while, so we will still be able to feel like we're in the playoff hunt as we get our guys back.
Quickies
- First of all props to Baron Davis. And I'm not just saying that because of the nice stat line- 25, 8, and 9. BD's come to play pretty much every single night. He's approaching that JRich status of last year- the MAN who comes to play hard regardless of the score and tries to carry the team on his back. I honestly think BD is just getting worn out in all these games playing such heavy minutes at Nellieball pace. Especially with JRich and Troy out, the Warriors are asking him to shoulder the majority of load creating, dishing, scoring, playing tough D, and crashing the boards. He's being asked to do way too much night in and night out with a cast of raw, limited players. Other players need to consistently step up and that doesn't mean showing up every 3 nights. I thought JRich was robbed of an All Star birth last season and if the Warriors continue this sub-.500 path Baron's going to be the next Warrior robber of an All Star appearance.
- I'll say it for the 1,000,001th time. The Warriors are soft down low. I'm sick of seeing opposing big men who are mediocre at best light up the Warriors down low. I know Biedrins had some stomach issues tonight and is pretty much the only big man in those gimmicky zones and in halfcourt sets. And I know MP2 and Barnes have admirably played tough, gritty D down low and crashed the boards sprinkling in some nice thoughts, but over the course of 48 minutes it's just not going to hold up. The Warriors desperately need a consistent enforcer who brings a certain nastiness and protects the Warriors house. The Dubs need to bring in a real SOB. There's too many nice guys on this roster and they very nicely show opposing players the way to easy baskets.
- Aside from the nice game against the Spurs, JRich is having an awful season. It's time to face the cold hard reality. I have nothing but love for the guy, but after 26 games the Warriors have gotten very little on court production from him. I have no idea if and when we'll see the JRich of last year. I don't think he or the team knows either. It's a sad and frustrating situation. Because of injuries we've never gotten the chance too see the BoomRich backcourt play extended periods together.
- This squad folds in the clutch and it's depressing to watch. Youth is not an excuse. This is a young league. Everyone is young. Guys like Lebron, Arenas, Melo, and Wade all step up. You either have it or you don't. I'm not saying don't give up on guys like Monta and Biedrins, but rather their youth is not an excuse when they get so much playing time. Also, if you look at the key players on this roster, it isn't as young as people would like you to believe. Baron, JRich, Troy, Dunleavy, and Foyle are all middle aged players. They should be at or near their prime.
- This team as presently constituted even when fully healthy is going absolutely nowhere. Injuries are a reality in the NBA- I really hope the Warriors (mis)management isn't using that as an excuse to hold off on making trades. How many teams out there have their full roster healthy for the majority of their games? I can only remember the Detroit Pistons of last year in recent memory. Injuries aren't an excuse. This team isn't going to the playoffs without some trades (a major reason why I track and investigate the NBA rumor mill so closely) and unless it defies the laws of probability is headed for another late lottery selection.
- This roster needs a shakeup desperately. There's a losing culture that pervades this roster. This is a classic case of stability being a bad thing.

I, too, love BD's game. . .
And it's not the players. This team, though more than a bit imperfect, can certainly compete with and beat the Raptors and Nets (and 80% of the East, for that matter). There's enough talent there. They can generally match up pretty well. They may not be Phoenix (who is right now), but they can play with Phoenix pretty well -- right now.
I know it gets tiresome, but the team just needs to keep running a motion offense when the other guys tighten down. I know it's harder then; look at all those horrid jump shots the W's fall back on when they need to keep driving, cutting -- and running. It may take an extra pass or two, maybe BD, Monta or Dun need to run an extra cut, but they can get over this horrible hump if they will themselves to doing it.
The key, though, is -- and for the foreseeable future will be -- getting BD to turn it up and play the fourth like he does the first three. I think he can do it on the basis of what he's shown this year, but he's going to have to dig a little deeper -- AND he needs to be more vocal on the court (he could use a little Peyton Manning in him) and be the director a great point ALWAYS is (and it's no coincidence that a guy like Nash is always best when it counts most).
He's shown me he CAN do it. And with this team. Now he's just got to follow through. As bad as this trip's become, I think Nellie can get these guys over the hump -- but no matter how you cut it, it's on BD to be the leader at crunch time. Let's see if he can take this critical step to becoming a legitimate NBA star.

hmm, ready for the 5% solution?
Stand pat, stay the course, full steam ahead: 35%
Hope one or two February deals help grab the 8th seed 35%
Give away Murphy & BD, Sit Richardson, lose now to win lottery 5%
Dump Mullin and get a new GM to unravel this mess by Feb. 23%
wonder how the numbers would change now ...
wow

Breaking News
We need something.. anything to give us hope for the future, because it sure as hell isnt sitting and waiting for this team to 'get better'. It hasnt happened, mediocre year after mediocre year its the same. 1 of our last three first round draft picks has lived up to the most modest expectations. SHAKE IT UP
Great post...
- Murph to Bulls for PJ Brown.
- Dunleavy & 2nd rounder to Clips for Maggette
- Foyle and Pietrus to xyz for an expiring contract.
J-Rich
Maggette
PJ Brown
Biedrins
Ellis
Diogu
POB
Easy and simple. Gets the W's some girth down-low, and also rids the Dubs of their 3 worst contracts!
Management is a joke if they think they can hold onto all their young talent, and still be able ro trade the 3 worst contracts in franchise history. Just make the trades, get-er done, and move on!

Oooooooooh
exactly...
I am still timid when tanking the season b/c when we had the worst records in 96' and 02' we got joe smith and mike dunleavy. Hopefully in 07' there will be someone who is a superstar. haha.
pj brown
Your vocabulary is spot on
(when it looked like a close game as we were up 4 with plenty of easy Phoenix like layups in the first 4-5 seconds of a shot clock),
awaking only to go and vomit once the game was over after finding we had lost.
Damn stomach flu, and 4th quarter collapses!
Have Faith
Last night was depressing because I thought the Warriors could run the Nets out and they did for 3 quarters. The Warriors need to avoid the outside jumpers and learn to stay with the gameplan. Its like any other BB game, you spot a weakness you layoff just enough to get your opponent to jack up the shot. Teams are encouraging the Warriors to jack up 3s and the Warriors are falling for the bait.
It will get better (but I thought they would beat Toronto too.)
the only one
"It's a big problem that we take too many jump shots at important moments in the game when we have to get fouled or drive the ball like coach says all the time," Biedrins said.
"Sometimes nobody makes a call and sometimes we don't run anything and somebody shoots the ball. Or somebody didn't hear the call and some other mistake ends up in a difficult shot."
And apparently the players bringing the ball up aren't listening to Nelly yelling out plays! what the F baron and monta!!!
