Around SBN: 2012 Africa Cup Of Nations Final

OPEN THREAD: GAME #30 - 76ers @ WARRIORS

Warriors (W-L): 14-15

76ers (W-L): 7-19

Time: 7:30PM PST

TV: FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 680

The Warriors less than stunt-tastic road trip (2-4 overall) ended in a drubbing by the Miami Heat. Maybe it was a result of the Warriors injuries piling up (Pietrus victimized by D-Ho's bows, Monta victimized by Posey's linebacker tendencies, Roberson victimized by himself, and Biedrins probably the only one in the league victimized by Darko...), but two unsuspecting 2nd rounders posted career nights against the Ws.  Coincidence? Nah, just Warriors' patent defense.

With half the team out (Monta, Roberson, Murphy, Zarko, and possibly Pietrus) and half a J-Rich, what looks to be a walk in the park may end up being quite a dog fight. The 76ers have won two in a row and their young talent and athleticism at the wing and center spots might prove to be too much for the Ws. We can't forget about Kyle Korver either. If Kapono can go for a career night, look for Korver to kill em' from long range as Carney and Iggy tear up the interior with highlight worthy dunks.

Warriors--PLEASE GET WELL SOON!

Thank goodness we're playing at home!

Couple of quick corrections:
Pietrus took elbows to his shnoz from Big Dwight Howard (Christ I wish the Warriors had him), and Ellis got checked by James "One Day I'll Be Confused With Bruce Bowen" Posey.

Warriors by... oh man, just please win this game. And we should all hope for some good news on Monta's injury--we don't want to lose him for 8 weeks or anything.

by ivanbe on Dec 26, 2006 12:30 PM PST reply actions

thanks for catchin' it..
for some reason, i elbows to the face reminds me mutumbo and how could i forget annoying players (but great defensively) like posey?

by dj fuzzylogic on Dec 26, 2006 1:07 PM PST up reply actions

MutomBows
I remember awhile back, I think it was ESPN.com that had a timeline of all of the injuries that Dikembe's elbows have caused over the years--absolutely hilarious, and kinda freaky. Now they'd have to add his own star teammate to the list, after he TKO'd McGrady the other day. Ridiculous. Wish I could find that article.

by ivanbe on Dec 26, 2006 2:18 PM PST up reply actions

mutumbo still waggin the finger
the other day when he blocked someone. the rest of the team was on the otherwide of the court already and he was still in the backcourt, walking up, waggin his finger.

by dj fuzzylogic on Dec 26, 2006 2:28 PM PST up reply actions

Mutumbo = Warrior
Mutumobo donated $15 million to a hospital in Africa... so he can waive all the elbows and fingers he wants.

P.S.  When he sent the check, word is that Latrell Sprewell got checked into a hospital for excessive hyperventilation.  How could Mutumbo feed his family anymore?

Correction on Vegas Odds
Most places have the Warriors winning by 6-7 points.

Obviously, they may not have factored in the extent of so many of the injuries, but we shall see!

Go W's!

by gsdubz on Dec 26, 2006 1:43 PM PST reply actions

VEGAS?
Sometimes I wonder what is up with Vegas.  I know that the W's are injured, but they still have Baron and the 76ers still suck (consecutive wins over the Celtics and the suspended-riddled Knicks do not mean this is a good team).  Plus the W's are at home.  There is no way the 6ers should be favored.

Foyle Brown Mason would be the best lineup ever.....if our coach was not Don Nelson.

NBA Fundamentals
The GSW woes aren't going to end overnight. It is becoming increasingly clear that they are seriously lacking in basic fundamentals.

They have so much trouble making crisp and accurate passes, avoiding travelling turnovers, taking intelligent shots and not relying on 3 PT shots, making FT's, playing smart basketball, executing basic NBA-level defense, and so many other little things.

Sure, the razzle dazzle, the fast breaks, raining 3's (every great once in a while), the improbable upsets, they are fun. But night in and night out, it is actually getting difficult to watch all of the silly unforced turnovers and the mental mistakes.

It is also getting very old watching marginal players keep having career nights against the GSW because of their pathetic defense. The GSW defense could be summed up in "I Really Hope You Guys Start Missing Pretty Soon So We Can Get Back in the Game Defense".

I suspect that no matter how many trades we make, until someone takes the time to instill basic fundamental NBA level skills and mentality in these players and then demand their execution, they are never going to move to the next level.

Enough fadeaways with three players defending, how about making some FT's? Enough 3 PT shots with 20 seconds left on the clock, how about fighting over screens? Enough one on one while four teammates stand and watch, how about making some passes without someone dropping the ball or someone throwing it out of bounds or right into a defender's hands? Enough waiting in the corner every time down for a 3, how about winning a jump ball once in a while?

And so on.

If the GSW don't shoot themselves in the foot, they could win tonight.

Injuries
Seems like the injuries are never gonna stop. Who's on the active roster now?  How many guys have to be down before we bring in some reinforcements?
Inflation or recession? Christina Aguilera or Jenifer Lopez?  What's for dinner??

by Skeptic con Urquell on Dec 26, 2006 4:42 PM PST reply actions

"aguilera or lopez"
ugh, those are both bad options in my opinion. pakwan is for dinner... but chicken boti kabob is out tonite. like the warriors, our dinner is gonna be shorthanded without it.

by dj fuzzylogic on Dec 26, 2006 6:33 PM PST up reply actions

FREE IKE
If Nellie doesn't play him(10 minutes + please, none of that 9 points in 9 minutes then back to the pine) when we're this shorthanded, we will have to deal with the reality that Nelson will not ever use Diogu and he will no doubt be shipped out this season.

by back2back51s on Dec 26, 2006 5:13 PM PST reply actions

but ur forgetting...
what don nelson said about adonal foyle..."he'll only play against shaq and yao..." yeah right...just give ike a little time, and don nelson will start to like him, or at least play him.

what don nelson said about adonal foyle...
"he'll only play against shaq and yao..."
Well, with both shaq and yao out it seems only fair that adonal be allowed to go to the bahamas and relax til one of them return?

I know this was addressed above, but..
SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE INCORRECT ODDS!!!!
EVERY HOME TEAM IS FAVORED TO WIN TONIGHT IN THE NBA!! It just annoys me that someone could even write down that Sixers are favored by 3. It's about 10 points off and must be fixed because it's downright embarrasing. gack.

Wow
Nice game by Warriors, and Barnes! Propos to the Biedrins/Davis Double Double also!

I hate
this Mask fad. I think they should leave it to the best, such as Jim Carrey.

Forget it, dudes!

Monta looks like a little kid in his suit.

They said the mask came
minutes before the game, Pietrus putting it on for the first time in the pre game shootaround.

Taking over for Murphy's Phantom of the Oracle duties.

The Warriors team record
for 3's in a game is only 7 made?

Barnes can get over that tonight, crazy that the MC in TMC didn't put up 8 3's in a game at least once!

Barnes has only missed one shot tonight! (the 3 that could have given him the record)

by back2back51s on Dec 26, 2006 9:45 PM PST reply actions

Team record for one player
on 3 pointers made to clarify.

NOT the team as a whole.

they must really want Ogden or Yi.

Great Win
The highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows. . .

When we play good (like when we're at home), we play GOOD. Great ball movement tonight which was absent for parts of that road trip. It was a great win for our team tonight.

Barnes has been playing hard for us and has stepped up in the absence of Murph and up until recently JRich. I'm hoping Baron can get an All Star spot, but it looks like he might end up like JRich did.

by mojo X on Dec 26, 2006 10:34 PM PST reply actions

Matt Barnes and Dunleavy looked good tonight
Good enough that I'm starting to warm up to the idea of moving Murphy (and Foyle if possible)  in place of Dun. Factor in a solid performance from Diogu and it's easy to see why Murphy is more expendable these days. He's probably not suited for Nellie ball as much as some other, cheaper guys.

by Jeremy Belvins on Dec 26, 2006 10:51 PM PST reply actions

Why didn't the guys
set up Barnes for another three attempt? Looked like they were purposely passing away from him for the last few munutes?
