Rumor: Warriors a Long Shot for Pau Gasol
Here's something that makes you think from Chad Ford's chat earlier today on ESPN.com:
Ken (Richmond, VA): Pau Gasol is back and Memphis is still getting blown out. How long until he's traded?
Chad Ford: Wait until after January 15th. If the sale of the Grizzlies is really dead (and we should know by then) then I think the handcuffs will come off Jerry West and he'll do what he can to clear more cap space and add young inexpensive assets and draft picks. The Bulls are an obvious fit. Celtics, Warriors and Magic are long shots, but possibilities.
I haven't heard first-hand or read anything up until this mention of the Warriors trading for Pau Gasol, but he would be a great fit for this squad and Nellieball. Gasol isn't a superstar big man, but there's a lot to like about the Spanish Fly. He's always been a nice shot blocker and teaming him up with Andris Biedrins down low would instantly transform the Charmin' soft Warrior interior into a force to be reckoned with. Offensively, Gasol is money in the post and is good for 20 a night. Probably the most impressive facet of Gasol's game is his passing, which he's worked hard to improve since entering the league. Last season when he was healthy he dished out 4.6 dimes a game. No other current Warrior forward has that passing ability. Team up Pau Gasol with Baron, JRich, Monta, and Biedrins and this Warriors team becomes a legit force in the West.

If Pau comes to the Bay we'll pay for his haircut and even throw in a Mach-3 razor!

Are there any plausible deals that you can put together to bring the Spanish Fly to the Bay Area? Post whatever you come up with using ESPN's trade machine.
99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Gasol? Fill 'er up!
Baron
Ellis/Pietrus
JRich
Gasol
Biedrins
----
Dunleavy
Barnes
Foyle
AJohn
POB
Roberson
McCloud
That's a 45-50 win team ... this year.
the Grizzlies....
If the Grizzlies are trying to free up cap space
hmm
Maybe even:
Murphy
Ellis
Diogu
Pietrus
1st round pick
I don't know if this would work, but i bet with the filler in Murph's contract, plus the 3 young guys and a first rounder would at least tempt West. He ain't no body's fool, and atleast if Mullin offers this, he won't be Jerry's Bitch.
BEST TRADE EVER
Warriors Lineup:
Baron
Jrich
Maggette
Biedrins (gasol)
Gasol (Biedrins)
---
Monta
Pietrus
Diogu
Barnes
Roberson
POB
McCloud

I'd rather have Diogu than Gasol...
He's not KG!
He's not AI!
He's friggin Pau Gasol. A poor man's Dirk Nowitzki!
PASS.

He also beat us with a last second spin move
But if the chances are better to get Gasol than they are to get Artest/AI/KG, go for it.
We've had enough of this, 'no we won't give up X player for this deal.'
Making a trade can spark our team out of this on the fence of .500 junk, we all know Biedrins needs help inside, we all know Nellie hasn't given much light to Ike or Murph.
But
We don't know what Memphis wants from the Warriors, if they want to deal Gasol badly, and what its going to take.

Don't sell the farm guys...
Like any desperative GSW's fan, i too yearn for the big man to make nellieball even more effective and give us that low post option we so desperately need....but don't sell the farm..!
The price of monta and troy and pb and ike?
Too steep!
Mullin would be a fool to do that..
Think about all the close games that monta has given us a boost in, just in this year...
Think about the development of ike and even PB...
Do we really want to mortgage our future on a guy who is coming off a seriously debilitating ankle injury?
For old time warriors fans, this trade smells of rony seikaly....nix on the trade unless it is:
murphy, petrius and a 2nd dp or 1st...
that would be fair..
THANK YOU 11allstar!
If Pau Gasol was a great player, he affect there record in some small way, but he's just another NBA player. A darn good one, but not a SuperStar like KG, or even Jermaine O'Neal.
And Monta/Ike/POB/Murphy/and a 1st is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to much!
POB/Murphy/2nd for Gasol would be a good one.
Biedrins IS the Center of the Future, and the present, so POB is expendable.
by bigcity7 on Dec 29, 2006 9:35 AM PST reply actions
POB/Murphy
Come on
And the Seikly comparison is weird? Gasol can pass and shoot and can play both facing the basket and in the post and runs the floor
Seikaly was a big back to the basket center type
Gasol is an Allstar and with him and Baron I think they would have two legit all stars
Ike POB Pietrus are role players at best in the league (nothing wrong with that), nobody wants Murphy or Dunleavy, everyone wants Ellis and Biedrens.
Tough call but I say no on Andres and maybe on Ellis
People on this blog overvalue the Warriros talent more than Mully
Gasol
I especailly like the 4.6 assits per game and the .503% shooting percentage for a 20 point per game guy and he's still young
