New Blog: The Boxing Bulletin for Boxing Fans!

Straight Slammin'... Daily!

Growing up as a kid my favorite hoops read was easily Slam magazine. It was revolutionary for the mid-90's. It was the first legit mass publication that fused Hoops, Hip Hop culture, and Sneaker culture into one slammin' package. They had the best pull-out posters too. So hot, that I'd often spend weeks debating which side to put up. Shawn Kemp throwing it down Rain Man style or Grant Hill drinking Sprite? I owe much of writing style and hoops upbringing to Slam.

Nothing's Two Fly for Slam!

Slam is doing big things with their new website and daily blog. For a roundup of the NBA make sure to make Slam Daily a daily destination. They even have a convenient RSS feed.

Oh man!
I remember this cover!  I had it taped up on my wall.

spree on d
The amazing thing about sprewell is that he came up as a purely defensive prospect...he played center, of all things, in junior college, and had little backcourt game offensively. But man, could he cause trouble in passing lanes with that quick, long long step, and those long arms.

Then he learned how to go around people with the ball and it was all over. I don't think I've ever witnessed a player in any sport develop as quickly and dramatically as Sprewell. A shame he's so crazy (remember when his pit bull almost killed his own daughter?), crazy enough to punch Byron Houston in practice; Houston, maybe the toughest guy who ever put on a Ws jersey, had to be restrained by four teammates in order to prevent an early end to Sprewell's season, not to mention career or even life.

I like the new look
of SlamOnline.com

It's very clean and easy to access what you want from the home page.

NUCLEAR athleticism
I always thought it was amazing how someone (sprewell) with poor handles could be THAT offensively prolific on the perimter.  The dude couldn't dribble with his left hand!  Was there anyone else like that?

Poor handled scorers
Jason Richardson and Shawn Marion pop to mind.  Both of them look more like they are chasing the ball through the lane than driving, but somehow they fill it up.

Left hand
I don't think I've ever seen Spree dribble with his left. It's nonexistent like the food on his family's dinner table!

CWebb + Spree + Timmy + Mullin + Owens + Nelson = NBA Championship

like Jamison..
Marion seems to minimize his weaknesses, perhaps dribbling.  But as a 3 maybe that's less ball handling too.  But JRich is ultral turnover prone when forced to put it on the floor... though he's improved a ton.
