San Jose SuperSonics in 2k8

If you haven't heard, the Seattle Sonics and Storm have been sold to an ownership group from the OKC (that's Oklahoma City, not OC for Orange County). Sadly, this most likely signals the beginning of the end for the NBA and WNBA in Seatle for a decade or so. Even if the Sonics move, there's no way Seattle remains without an NBA franchise for too long. This is a proud city and a great fan base. They deserve an NBA team like Warriors Nation deserves some playoff basketball.

A special shout goes out to Seattle Sonic fans everywhere. An even more special shout goes out to Storm fans. If you're a diehard fan of a WNBA fan, they you've more than proved your love for hoops.

Seattle hoops fans: We know how you feel. If there's anyone who can sympathize with you losing your team, it's Warriors Nation. We lost the Warriors back in 1994-95 when the truly inept Chris Cohan (in another one of his infamous lawsuits) took over our Golden State Warriors.

So, let's move on to the future. Chances are the Sonics will be playing elsewhere in 2k8. But where?

Oklahoma?
Nope. There's no way shady George Shinn and the Hornets' ownership would let that happen.

Anaheim?
There's no way the LA area can support 3 NBA teams. They barely support the Paper Clips.

San Diego?
It's pretty much Laker country down there and they have some of the worst sports fans in all of sports. Every time the 49ers, Raiders, Giants, or A's are in SD, it feels like the Bay Area.

SAN JOSE!!

They've got the money, the fan base, the desire, and the savvy to pull this off. You have pull for the Swift and Sene era in San Jose. It could very well be the only way we'll ever see an NBA team in the Bay Area make the playoffs during our lifetime.

HP Pavilion in San Jo: The future home of the San Jose SuperSonics!

In 2k8 Bay Area Sports = 49ers + Raiders + Giants + A's + Warriors + Sonics + Sharks + SaberCats + Cal + Stanford + San Jose State + Santa Clara University

Now the big question for Warriors Nation- if the Sonics moved to the Bay would you be a San Jose Sonics fan or a Golden State Warriors fan?

Feel free to be honest. Warrior fans (including GSoM writers) have been loyal to a fault. None of us owe any loyalty whatsoever to this sorry organization and (mis)management.  If you think you'd switch, don't feel bad at all. There's no such thing as a sellout or bandwagon Warrior fan. We're the farthest thing from LA Faker fans imaginable!

Stick with the Golden State Warriors? Or jump ship to the San Jose Sonics?

Stickin' with the Warriors
Gotta stay true to the East Bay.

Of course, if we miss the playoffs 20 straight years, and the SJ SuperSonics get LeBron James, DWade, or some other bonafide superstar in his prime... I might reconsider.

If we haven't switched by now....
I don't think any warrior fan will now. I think all those who would switch already did a few years ago to the Sacramento Kings, LA Lakers, or just about any other team in the world. Nope, the Warriors have done just about all they can to shake their fan base, and those of us still around are holding out for the day we can say, as we hoist the Larry O', that we were there through thick and thin...oh so thin. Damn that Adonal Foyle.
The Bimbo Coles era has BEGUN!!!

damn
i always hear a's fans argueing with giants' fans and raider fans against niners. i never watch football or baseball so i dont know how that feels to hate on one another, but it would truly suck if the bay area basketball fans were split into two with people hating on each other. i like it how it is right now, with all of the bay area fans rooting for one team and that team is the golden state warriors.

I agree
but get used to it because i have an inside source telling me that the A's are moving to Fremont soon!
remember this day i told you!

I'd be ok if there was a San Jose team. I always wanted an NBA team in San Francisco, might be kind of cool to have options. It kinda stinks to see the same old crappy team year after year.

Plus if you think about the financial aspect of all this, the warriors are freaking genius. they know that every single year they could produce a crappy team and still make MILLIONS off the fans. why? because there aren't any other options out there to compete. now, if there was another team all of a sudden that could take some of their fans and money away, i bet you a million dollars the warriors start producing a better team!!!

sonics 4 life
If the Sonics actually came to SJ, i would seriously reconsider my allegiance.  Why? Quoting Janet Jackson, "what have you (Warriors) done for me lately?"
I might even start a new blog about the SJ Super Sonics and give all their lost fans a place to go, too.

No
Sorry but being a avid Giants fan, I can't stand the A's. I used to root for them but A's fans just had to diss my team so much. The Warriors are where A's and Giant's fans come together and the Raiders and Niners and we should keep it that way.

rooting interest
San Jose would be more convenient, with some hip places to hang before and after the game, but like most of you, I don't root for the Warriors because it's hip or convenient...I root for them because as a kid my dad's friend took me to my first game and I saw them lose to the New Orleans Jazz as Maravich and Goodrich lit it up, while Smith and Barry couldn't make a lay-up that night; I root for them because I was so enthralled that I had my dad install a hoop in the driveway and take me to another game as soon as possible, which they held on to win against the Buffalo Braves as Bob MacAdoo's game-winning jumper rattled out as time expired, leaving Jack Ramsey and his checkered pants flat on his back at half court, hands clutching his forehead (can't imagine any NBA coach nowadays allowing himself to do that). Point being: we don't choose the teams we root for, we inherit them. So I'd keep an eye on the San Jose Sonics, but it would never be the same.

Moot point now.......
The Sonics were just sold (July 19) to an Oklahoma City group!  They claim they don't intend on moving the team, yeah right!!  The sellers said they turned down an offer from a San Jose group.
