Rumor: Pacers Close to Getting Al Harrington

It's been an intriguing day for Warriors Nation with the rumored 4 team deal that would net the Warriors the services of Al Harrington aka Mr. Lipton and allow them to dump Mike Dunleavy and his insane 5 year 44 million dollar deal, but Marc Stein of ESPN.com is reporting that the Pacers are close to getting Harrington... again.

Let's wait and see what happens. Maybe there's still hope that the Warriors will begin their much-anticipated 2006-2007 season with a desperately-needed frontcourt facelift. Like we always say at GSoM- 99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Keep it locked on Golden State of Mind...

The saga continues:

dun for maggette
if thats the case, then just send dunleavy to the clips and get maggette. besides, dunleavy never plays well with BD on the court anyway.

Words of Wisdom
From Lakers blog:

By the way, it's now official that there aren't two teams less talented at putting an NBA transaction into motion than the Hawks and the Pacers. The Hawks' last sign and trade (Joe Johnson) led to a court battle. And the Pacers frittered away half of last season before trading Ron Artest to Sacto for Peja Stojakovic, who was not only the most glaringly obvious one-for-one swap option available, but was rumored to have on the Pacers' radar before the brawl, much less Artest's trade request. It's only fitting that these guys would be struggling so hard to pull triggers with each other. Honestly, I'm shocked everything's progressed this quickly.

Not worth it
Is Harrington worth a contract of that magnitude?  If Harrington had shown he helped a bad team, if Harrington had shown that he provided significantly more gain to a team, perhaps a 9 mil per year might be worth it.  But he hasn't.  He's a somewhat better than average scorer largely due to taking more shots. He's an average rebounder, average passer, statistically average (or slightly below average) defender.  He's a guy who doesn't do anything exceptional.

We've already grossly overpaid for average performance.
