Quote of the Day: Feeling Full of It

It might be awhile before a Warrior makes a video game cover.
From Jon Robinson's review of NBA Live 07 for IGN.com:
By now, everybody knows that NBA Live 06 for the Xbox 360 was to videogames as Todd Fuller was to the NBA, a total and complete embarrassment (not to mention the fact that the Warriors took Fuller ahead of Kobe). Will EA bounce back from the shame or will they go out like the Warriors who followed up that doozy by taking Adonal Foyle ahead of Live cover athlete Tracy McGrady?

We'll try to post some reviews of this year's crop of hoops video games, but what's your favorite series? NBA Live? NBA 2k? NBA Street? NBA Jam? Anything else?

I bought Todd Fuller
I was pretty psyched about play basketball on my 360 until I played Live 06.  I played a little 2K6 and it was better but I've been waiting for the next season of games before I buy another NBA title.

Last year's Live for the PS2 was my favorite.  The dunk contest had a lot of depth to it, along with pretty good gameplay.

McGrady on the cover?
McGrady can be damn near unstoppable at times as if possessed by the spirits of Jordan, but is a dude who misses hella games per year really deserving of the cover?  Perhaps i'm being nitpicky, but wouldn't someone like Nash be more fitting?

i agree with you
i agree besides mcgrady hasnt really done anything yet.  he is a very good player but video game cover worthy? personally lebron would be my first pick for a cover.  i hope he is on the cover of nba 2k7 which will definately be a better game than nba live

2K series/ Sega
That's my favorite, but back around 99 NBA Jam was the best!

Hmmmm....
Back in the day NBA Jam was the bomb. I'd always own people with Stockton-Malone. After that, I played a lot of NBA 98,99,00. They were all great games, with really awesome jazz/rockish intros (with REAL PEOPLE and not just 3-D polygons) and music. Then, in 2001, the series just got a lot more crappy. It just kept degrading, with crappier controls, and creating crap like Dunk Contest insted of making the gameplay or Franchise mode more in-depth. Also, its started giving me these crap teenagey songs mixed with rap, and it burned my ears out with its rapid switching. The graphics looked extremely fake and over glossy, and the physics were downright deplorable. There really was no game for me at that point. Then in 2006, I saw the light. NBA 2K6 was the greatest basketball game I've never played. Creative controls, wonderful franchise mode, not so bad music, and no superstar crap, which is what NBA Lives "New Feature" was. My only beef with it was that you could only create up to 10 players, meaning I couldn't make this years NBA Draft. I don't have a 360, but I heard it was good there too.

But my favourite of all time has to be NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC. That game was off the heezy!

Oh, also....
Tim Hardaway was on NBA Live '98, even if he was with the Heat by then.

NBA Live
"Can EA pull it together in the final 10%? Who knows, we've seen crazier things happen. The Warriors did manage to select Gilbert Arenas in the second round back in 2001.

Then again, they failed to sign him to a long-term deal, and, well, you know the rest."

Haha...

Despite NBA Live's hype of "not being realistic enough", I still find it fun to play. I'll likely check out Live 07 as well. still playing Live 06

nba jam
i think nba jam is more realistic and a better game then live.  overall 2k is the best

i same
over the summer i played nba live 06  obbsessively at times. i still play. what stinks is im a gamecube so neither madden nor nba live are producing games for gamecube.

Dude
I'm still playing Live 06 on Gamecube. My PS2 broke down so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do for Live 07...

btw Madden 07 is still for GCN.

NBA Hangtime
Circa 1998, NBA Hangtime was the best hoops game out there. It helped that I beat Atma ALL THE TIME during our high school lunch breaks. He'll tell you different because his memory gets warped, but make no mistake about it, I was king.

The correct story
  • NBA Hangtime was the best game on probably the worst video game console ever made N64.
  • Fantasy Junkie- like the movie: "You got served"

Ugh
If any of you picked up a copy of 2K6 for 3 seconds, you'd be amazed at how much better it is. And I have a Gamecube and PS2, with my PS2 for sports and my Gamecube for games. I'm getting a Nintendo Wii next generation, and then a PS3 later on, whenever I can afford that rescource sucking monster. But I can't blame you guys if you only have a cube.

I'v played NBA Hangtime....it may have been good back then, but its not timeless like NBA JAM or NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC. Its good, but not great.

I had 3 nba games for n64
showtime, jam, and "the guy we should have had instead of todd fuller's" courtside. They were all pretty good.

NBA Live
I'm pretty devastating on NBA Live...it doesn't matter the year!

by goldenstatefan on Aug 26, 2006 10:04 PM PDT reply actions

nba live sucks
after NBA live '04 which was trash all the dudes look like fat midgets.  i also want a basketball game not an iceskating game and everyones jumper is hella ugly in that game.  the graphics suck and the player movement is unrealistic i have to say that the dunks are pretty cool.  i went to espn basketball 2k5 and then nba 2k6 which was made by the same people.  I highly reccomend the nba 2k games they are awesome matter of fact nba 2k6 is still like my favorite game out there right now and i got it like almost a year ago.  they are the best nba simulation and they are very realistic and fun
