More on New Golden State Warrior Dajuan Wagner

wagner-warriors.jpg

In case you missed it the Warriors were expected to sign Dajuan Wagner earlier today. It's now confirmed on Warriors.com. The Warriors deserve some props for this move. Wagner is only 23 and very talented. He's overcome a ton of injuries and actually had his colon removed last October. This is a tough, young man with nothing but upside. I'm impressed that the Warriors beat out several other teams to get him too.

Hey, we know that former Knick!

What type of role do you envision for Dajuan Wagner under Don Nelson's Warriors?

Thats what I'm talking about! As the day goes on I have gotten more and more excited about this move for many reasons. I love the upside and think he brings alot of toughness that this team needs. I hope this means we will see more of JRich at the 3 so Monta and Wagner can split time at the 2. Next up: DerMarr!!!!

I dunno....
Remember Vin Bakers comeback? I thought so. I have no opinion on him as of yet, but I don't think there's a better coach to suit his needs.

Laugh On
Keep laughing because Monta WILL be a star. Any  GSW fan who watched the games last year saw flashes of true brilliance from Monta on a consistent basis.

keep an open mind
Gilbert Arenas was a second rounder.  Players fake and get faked out all the time.  AI faked out Jordan before.  Doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things.  Wagner has strengths and weaknesses.  I think his strengths play to Nellie's style very well.  We'll see.

Defense
I'd like to see Dajuan stick with the team.  At 23 he's old enough to understand and appreciate the hard lessons from his illness and injury.  You turn a corner in life when you faced with hardship and mortality.  Guys like Powe are there already - guys nicknamed "The Messiah" who set state records probably haven't -- until now.

"Now Wagner knows that he has to keep working and be ready when and if the NBA calls. Asked whether it's like being a rookie all over again, Wagner smiled.

"Yeah, it will be," he said. "But I'm going in a lot smarter and more hungry. I hope I can stay healthy." "

Between Monta and Wagner, Monta has had more said and written about his defensive effort than Wagner. I think Monta's defensive attitude  will rub off on him - both guys have something to prove.

Wagner
Has a great offensive game right?

A man who scored 100 in HS and is a bit bigger than Monta of course.

Monta will turn out to be our version of Devin Harris under Nelson, so more depth at the gaurd position is nothing but a plus.

We haven't completely replaced the things Fisher brought to the team, but more players definitely opens up the rotation if everyone is sprinting up and down court all the time.

Would Don Nelson plan to use Wagner as an undersized 3 instead of JRich? Just a thought.

too small
At 6'2" he's already undersized for the SG position.  Putting him at the 3 would really be asking way too much of him.  At the moment, im not looking at this as a big acquisition.  He's one of the last guys off the bench as far as i'm concerned until he proves otherwise.  But i'm still keeping an open mind.

perfect pickup
low price, low risk, lot's to prove= "poor-man's AI" is perfect for Nelson's system whether he's GS 12th man or NBA 6th Man of the Year
