Rumor: Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, and Jason Richardson All Available on Trade Market

Here's a snippet from Sam Smith for ChicagoSports.com:

There will be plenty of Warriors available as coach Don Nelson and general manager Chris Mullin criticized Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy last week in the San Francisco Chronicle. Word is also out that Jason Richardson is available.

Haha, Warriors Nation already knows that Dunleavy and Murphy have been available for quite some time now. There's absolutely nothing groundbreaking about Smith saying that. The question is who actually wants them at their price? It's one thing to say that spoiled milk is available, it's another thing to say someone actually wants to buy it.

The most interesting part of Smith's tidbit on the Warriors is that JRich is available. If Smith is correct and not just speculating, that would would be a tough pill to swallow for Warrior fans. Sure, JRich didn't come to camp ready and had his surgery way too late, but the man's attitude and work ethic are exactly what this team needs to erase the losing culture haunting this franchise. Don't forget, he's the one that stood up and apologized to fans after last year's debacle, even though he gave his all night in and night out.

One thing's for sure, if Chris Mullin and Rod Higgins let another trading deadline pass with nothing to show for it, they're in way over their head and show no signs of running a competent NBA front office. There's no reason they should be leading the Warriors front office past this season if they can't shakeup this talent-depraved roster.

Do you see JRich, Murph, and Dun all on the Warriors past the February 22nd deadline?

a rumor i heard
is j-rich murphy a young player or a draft pick for paul pierce.  Baron is friends with him and the celtics need a forward to help jefferson and they play half court offense so murphy would fit in

Unnamed Sources
Haha, what do you think the newspapers do? Our sources are just as legit as theirs- trust us. Haha, they also come true the same percentage of the time-- 0%.

Rumors just mean GMs are talking about something. Doesn't mean they'll actually pull the trigger.

One reason for Richardson to be available...
Murphy and Dunleavy are available because they are overpaid.  Unfortunately, that's the same reason other teams are unlikely to touch them, at least not without something else thrown in.  But Mullin has to shed salary if he's going to retain Ellis, Pietrus, Biedrins and even Barnes without demolishing the luxury tax.  Hench Richardson is on the block.  He's the only long term contract that is actually tradeable.

The Warriors will work hard to make some move, but I think it's more about being able to re-sign the young guys, which means it can wait until the off-season.  I don't see a move before then, unless someone just gets desperate and takes a flyer on Murphy.

dunleavy's virtually untradable
not only for the points you mentioned, but i believe he's a base year player.

by the evil monkey on Jan 16, 2007 6:02 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

not entirely
he is base year, but all that means is it is a mix of last and this years salary, instead of 4 mill or 7 mill  he is at 5.71 mill to trade, which means we would need to give something more for say maggette since he makes 8, if it wasnt base year, we could trade straight up

i wasnt speaking
on the maggette trade specifically. where the problem is the future luxury tax implications to the clippers.

just merely adding to the points the OP made as to why it is so difficult to trade dunleavy. which is why j-rich may be on the trading block - since he is  the easiest of the big salary players not named baron to trade.

Trading Jrich to keep these guys would be a step backwards, Jason has proven himself much more than any of these others have.

i'd be hard pressed to believe anything
Sam Smith writes. every 2 or 3 weeks the guy is making up a KG to the Bulls rumor. i wonder if he really has any sources or is just speculating based on what he reads from the sports pages around the country.

jrich is the warriors most tradable piece that they are likely to get a good big guy for. and monta & kelenna's solid play makes him more expendable than he was a week ago.

that said, the only way they should trade jrich is 1) for an all-star caliber big man - preferably one who is defensive minded,

2) and are able to unload either foyle or murphy's contract - preferably murphy's only because it's both more money and more years...

JRich
though I am sure still a desirable player it seems his stock would be lowest now.  Sort of like the stock market you want to trade high

yeah,
like i said Sam Smith is basically the boy who cried wolf. except in his case, the wolf never comes.

they should only trade j-rich under the two conditions stated above. and i doubt any team would be willing to take a risk on j-rich until they were assured he would return to form.

Sam Smith was all about Pietrus rumors last year.
He's been on a Murphy kick all this year. When he's not firing off unfounded trad scenarios in his fan Q&As, he's a really good writer. Ususally funny, which is rare for a basketball writer (GSoM another exception of course).
