OPEN THREAD: Game #33 - Warriors at Hornets

338765595_98ff87fcff_o

Warriors (W-L): 16-16

Hornets (W-L): 12-18

Time: 5:00PM PST tip off

With the new year comes a new Warriors. Currently sitting at .500, now is the time for us to take advantage of our current string of mild opponents and establish ourselves as contenders.

Despite J-Rich being out, we have no fear. We'll be looking for Baron to pick up the load like he has done so much in the past without Richardson around. Worst comes to worst, Kelenna Azubuike will be there to befuddle the Hornets by asking them to pronounce his name.

Look for loyal reader Zorgon tonight and be sure to check out his preview for tonight's game.

Vegas Odds: Golden State favored by 5 points.

GSoM Prediction: The Warriors run away with this one and win by 13.

LET'S DO THIS WARRIORS!!!

UPDATE: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 2:

WARRIORS WIN!! 97-89

We got this
No Chris Paul? No Peja? No David West? No Bobby Jackson?

Seriously, we shouldn't even begin to complain about the Warrior injuries. These guys have been hit hard.

Predictions

  • Warriors by 10
  • Unstoppable Baby! Marc Jackson gets 20 points in the most unstoppable baby way possible.

You put:

Nets (W-L): 12-18

But we're playing the Hornets.  Unless the Nets part is from horNETS.  Just a heads up.

Ok Atma......
Before the game get sunderway, we have to come up w/ the official GSOM nickname for Kelenna Azubuike..lol...so everyone drop your suggestions, before we don't have anything to yell as he dunks all over Jannero Pargo!! I can't wait to hear Barnett try this one!

I see you all liked my
suggestion...anyway, who in their right mind voted that the Hornets are gonna win tonight? Get their IP address and suspend them from GSoM. I say give em a 15 day suspension.

I always expect the Warriors to lose
I've had this inexplicable feeling of dread for the last 12 years . . . and I've been right most of the games.

of course
you know I was only joking right? but I don't blame you...it seems like most of the time when they're expected to win a "winnable" game, they go south...anyway, good win last night!

Zuzu?
but when he dunks on fools...we should still yell Bukake. LOL. Kinda like they used to do on SportsCenter for Juwan Howard (when he was good)...they would yell Jumanji.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

Vegas odds
This is to all you who think GSoM is getting the odds wrong. When one team is getting most the bets the odds are changed. This is to encourage bets for the other team. The idea is to have the bets half and half. Since the odds have been getting down means more bets for the hornets. Now if it was at 2 1/2 now 3 means between this time more bets were going to the Warriors.

by Psion on Jan 2, 2007 4:44 PM PST reply actions

i understand this
that's why you look at LVSC not the individual casinos and such.

You're right. The Vegas odds can change by the minute. We just put up whatever the odds are at the time of posting. It's something we just started doing this year. Thank Hash for the great idea.

Everyone's welcome to post the updated Vegas odds up until game time in the comments of the open threads of course. It's fun to track.

Kinda funny, but training camp cut Devin Brown (now on the Hornets) could help the Warriors with Monta and JRich out.

Baron with 12 shots in the 1st quarter
I'm worried that without JRich and Monta, BD's going to feel the burden of scoring all of the backcourt points by himself. That's a ton of shots already.

ike diogu? doghouse?

by bayareawarriors on Jan 2, 2007 7:02 PM PST reply actions

Indeed
GSDubz I think posted a linked quote from an article about Diogu being yelled at by Nellie in Miami after  Ike didn't take theblame for a mishap play.

Nelson said Diogu and Mike need to grow up in that regard.

by back2back51s on Jan 2, 2007 7:04 PM PST up reply actions

omg mike does need to grow
i posted a previous diary about mike dunleavy always ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS complain after every mistake he makes.

BUT
even with both not taking their blame, why does dun play and not ike. ike deserves to play just as much as dun

by bayareawarriors on Jan 2, 2007 7:17 PM PST up reply actions

Geez!
Nellie wasn't pissed at Dunleavy; he was pissed at Ike for blaming Dun for Ike's own mistake (he makes them constantly because he still has no clue where to go on defense, and on offense the only thing he knows how to do is get down on the block -- he has no concept of motion).

Dunleavy, on the other hand, knows where to be, where to go, and where to keep his arms (since he deflects more balls on D than any other W).  And who hit the big three last night after the W's had gone stone cold throughout the fourth quarter (on their traditional three-point missing spree)?  And who's always in at crunch time (hint: not Ike).

If you don't like Dun's style, fine.  He's not a star, he's not particularly athletic.  But he knows the game, plays it well, and above all focuses on TEAM play -- something this squad sorely needs.

by johnl on Jan 3, 2007 10:10 AM PST up reply actions

Nellie pissed at Dun
I think he was probably referring to this tidbit from the Kings game:
Mike Dunleavy, the Warriors' $45 million backup forward, went 0-for-6 with two turnovers in the first half before coach Don Nelson yanked him. The two had a testy exchange as Dunleavy went to the bench. Dunleavy finished the night 5-for-19, making him 16-of-51 in the last four games.

http://www.nba.com/games/20061230/GSWSAC/recap.html

I didn't see anything major on TV, but that's what the AP recap said.

Again, I don't think Dunleavy or Ike are cancers by any stretch, but neither are prefect. Dunleavy does yell at his mistakes and doesn't have the best body language out there when HE makes mistakes. I have yet to hear or see the guy take responsibility when he makes mistakes or plays poorly. This is the same guy who at the beginning of the season said his previous coaches flat out didn't use him properly. That's some big talk from a role player.

Right now, I'd be extremely hesistant to say that either Dun or Ike are the consumate team players. That just isn't true. Nellie doesn't seem to be too happy with either in his interviews with the Razor and Mr. T on KNBR.

Ike's still young and is on a rookie deal, so if he doesn't shape up it's really not that big of a deal. He's easy to trade, but I think he has a lot to offer this squad. He might have the best mid-range jump shot on this team.

Dunleavy is a 5th year player who Nellie named a captain of this squad and is next to impossible to trade with that horrendous offer Mullin and Higgins gave him. The Warriors are going to be screwed if Dunleavy doesn't step up big time.

Let's hope both their attitudes and play improves.

by Atma Brother ONE on Jan 3, 2007 10:43 AM PST up reply actions

correction
Dunleavy does yell at his teammates (not mistakes)

by Atma Brother ONE on Jan 3, 2007 10:45 AM PST up reply actions

"If you don't like Dun's style, fine.  He's not a star, he's not particularly athletic.  But he knows the game, plays it well, and above all focuses on TEAM play -- something this squad sorely needs"

We could find a million guys (and with better personality) to fill his spot, for the money he's getting we should expect lots more.
Zorgon has foyle, John has Dun, maybe I should become the murphy freak to round out the asylum?

with the exception of the clutch shots towards the end of the game... it was so... UGLY. I want Matt Barnes to get Warrior Wonder for his hustle, without him it wouldve been a definate loss. Of course Baron carried the load, but then again, he's supposed to. It's his team. So just for tonight, Warrior Wonder: Matt Barnes.

It's a good idea
Someone else brought it up earlier. We'll work on a cool layout for it. I was going to drop a Warrior Wonder recap when we hit 41 games, but we can put something that stays up too.

MVP? Coach of the year? Most improved player? Rookie of the year? Defensive player of the year?

Man, who cares about those awards. It's all about the WARRIOR WONDER!

Word.

Bouncing off some ideas
Hash and I were talking about putting up players pics' on a side column with how many Warrior Wonders they've won this season. Think that's a good idea?

I think you asked before if we could list the Warrior Wonder in the schedule along the right column. It's a good idea that makes a lot of sense, but I'm worried it will almost double the size of that huge block of text and make things look ugly.

Thanks for being patient as we think through a good design.

Also, anyone think a GSoM special edition "Warrior Wonder" TShirt would be hot? Don't sleep!

by Atma Brother ONE on Jan 2, 2007 10:08 PM PST up reply actions
