Rumor: Jason Kidd for Jason Richardson, Mickael Pietrus, Monta Ellis and Patrick O'Bryant

From Sam Smith for ChicagoSports.com:

The Nets have been rumored to be trading Vince Carter, but some GMs believe now is the time for them to deal Kidd, who will be 34 in March and is due $40 million over the next two seasons.

Some believe the Nets' season is lost with Richard Jefferson and Nenad Krstic out, and Kidd is playing perhaps as well as he ever has, though you wonder if it's to interest teams and get himself away from the personal family mess going on in New Jersey.

Perhaps a career-ending return home to Oakland would be the answer, because the Warriors could put together a good package to rebuild the Nets. Maybe Jason Richardson, Mickael Pietrus, Monta Ellis and rookie Patrick O'Bryant, whom coach Don Nelson last week said he'd like to go to dinner with but wouldn't want to put in a game. Kidd and Baron Davis would be an ideal backcourt for Nelson.

Think Jason Kidd will be sporting one of these jerseys on February 23rd?

Smith is probably just playing around with trade scenarios here and doesn't have any inside scoop on the Warriors actually being interested in pairing up Kidd with BD or the Nets trying to move Kidd, but still it's fun to think about. Kidd is a hall of famer and one of the greatest point guards to play the game. He's one of the few players in this league that the Warriors could move JRich for and not drive Warriors Nation to tears.

Here's what the Warriors starting lineup would look like:
PG: Jason Kidd
PG/SG: Baron Davis
SF: Stephen Jackson
PF: Al Harrington
C: Andris Biedrins

Playoffs?!! That team would do more than just make the playoffs. How far do you think they could go in the mighty West this season with that lineup?

haha
this makes me laugh. why don't we just hand them our roster.

Yeah, our future for a 34 year old?
Let's do it and also buy each and every bridge that New Jersey claims to own.

Agree
I think we're all on the same page on this one.

Not to mention...
that a starting 5 of Kidd, Davis, Jackson, Harrington, and Biedrins probably doesn't make the playoffs.  Or even do as well as this year's team (which also probably won't make the playoffs).

Kidd is shooting it well now (better than he ever has actually), but his track record shows it probably won't last.  And Baron's inconsistent from the perimeter at best.  Lack of outside shooting + no inside presence = bad, really bad.

That trade would bring me to tears
I like J Kidd, but: A) what would our defense look like? and B) do we really need two top-5 point guards? At the expense of a top-15 shooting guard in JR and a future top-15 guard in Monta Ellis? No more guards please, we have plenty of good/great ones.

WTF?
All I can say is stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid.
I wont even trade j rich for kidd.

by Jacque on Jan 30, 2007 9:55 AM PST   0 recs

Kidd
This is a good trade idea provided if Monta is not involved because it gets rid of 2 bad-ballhandlers for a great one who also make great decisions, eventhough he's much older.

R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S.
Why not also throw in Biedrins and Harrington in the trade, as well? Like everyone else in the Bay I love J-Kidd, but handing that over would be beyond stupid.

great trade!
Warriors get: Another PG when they already have one of the best. This new one's old, though!

Warriors lose: All 3 of their shooting guards.  Hmmmmm.........decisions, decisions, decisions....

another BS rumor
started by a reporter that needed an article to meet his deadline. the warriors would never do this. mullin isnt isiah.

by ZombieWarrior on Jan 30, 2007 11:37 AM PST   0 recs

no way
i can't STAND the idea of baron davis at shooting guard for an entire game...the amount of shots he would hoist with a green light from nelly is just downright terrifying.  j-kidd would certainly make this team infinitely better with his court IQ and basketball wisdom.  but is it worth j-rich, monta AND mickael?  gone would be our logjam at shooting guard.  we'd be down to 5 true guards (Kidd, Davis, Jackson, Sarunas, Kelena).  it ain't worth it.

UNLESS....we get rid of baron for j-kidd.  i love BD, but Kidd's a HOF'er for sure.  BD? not so much.

I accept the trade.
Starters:

PG: Jason Kidd
PG/SG: Baron Davis
SF: Stephen Jackson
PF: Al Harrington
C: Andris Biedrins

Backups:

PG: Sarunas Jasikevicus
SG: Kelenna Azubuike
SF: Matt Barnes
PF: Josh Powell/ Zarko Cabarkapa
C: Adonal Foyle

I say go for it. The Bulls roster was only 8 players deep, you know. If you really look at it, it's not that bad.

Biedrins overpowered? Put in Foyle.

Barnes can fill in for Big Al and Stephen, with Powell or Cabarkapa tapping in a few minutes. And Azubuike/Jasikevicus are more than capable backups.

This trade is better than you guys think. My initial reaction was no, but I've changed my mind after looking at it this way.

YES!

i remember this line from when this site first
this line from when this site first started putting rumors:
99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

When I first read it, it seemed a little interesting.

Since then, there's been about 200+ rumors posted on this site. Not only have more then 99% been false, but only about 10-15% have actually been halfway fun to talk about.

No, no, no
No!!

Age is the bottom line. Love Kidd, but he's 34! Realistically he only has 2-3 more Kiddlike seasons left in him, max. Monta just turned 21, Pietrus is 24, and Richardson just turned 26.

Plus, as has been pointed out, the resulting lineup is weird. Baron as shooting guard? Bleccch. A bit down the road, I like the idea of Kidd as crafty veteran backup point guard -slash- sometime mentor for Baron and Monta. I'd give up Pietrus and POB for that. I wouldn't trade Monta or JRich for KIdd straight up.

This is likely the single worst trade ever proposed on the GSoM Main Board. I know you're just passing along some assclown's conjecture, but really, I'd almost prefer you hadn't.

by Sleepy Freud on Jan 30, 2007 1:32 PM PST   0 recs

heh..
Kidd and Baron Davis would be an ideal backcourt for Nelson

I personally think Jason Richardson and Baron Davis would be the ideal backcourt for the Warriors and Nelson.

Can anyone think of a trade that could possibly net us these guys?

Damn, I just wish we had JR and BD.

What still shocks me
Is that rumors still get the most comments on GSoM. It's a small % of what we do here, but it gets so much attention. The hottest item of yesterday was Fantasy Junkie's report card. That should be getting all the comments.

by hardcore on Jan 30, 2007 4:13 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

not so much
I'm a HUGE JKidd fan, but that trade doesn't help either team.  Both are in need of big men, not more guards and wing players.  The only way i'd even consider pulling the trigger on that is if you take out JR and Monta.

by dirrty on Jan 30, 2007 4:21 PM PST   0 recs

He's one of the few players in this league
"that the Warriors could move JRich for and not drive Warriors Nation to tears"

Speak for yourself!  I wouldn't trade Jason for Yao Ming even!  Kidd? WTF? We've already got a point guard.

wtf is this bull s***
i wouldnt even trade monta straight up or j rich straight up
