Jermaine O'Neal

He's publicly expressing frustration in Indy and referred to the option of his being traded.

Three out of some combination of Murphy, Diogu, Pietrus, and Richardson - i.e., an infusion of young talent - strikes me as a credible offer for O'Neal, assuming that the Pacers are willing to take back a large contract or two.

I love Richardson, his work ethic, his attitude, and his continual improvement, but a chance to pick up a low post guy who has an impact on both ends of the floor is rare.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Hey,
Trading richardson will ruin this team. Period. We have too many other people we can trade to trade a fuckin' captain that everyone looks up to. Jesus christ you guys sound off on richardson like he's useless. Everyone gets injured.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

short term memory
that's the whole problem. he gets injured one year and everyone is ready to toss him away. it's bull

You are out of your mind
J-rich is a nice player who is not even close to O'neil.   If you think otherwise you are just a homer

O'Neil is a big who play defense 20/10 guy who actually gets as many assists and steals per game

2 guards like Richadson are not that rare.  Bigs like O'neil are.  I doubt Richardson will ever even be an all star

YOu must not be watching to closely

JRich will never be an All-Star
because he plays in the Western Conference that's loaded with 2 guards (Kobe, AI, Ray Allen, TMac, and so on). But ither than that, he's pretty darn decent. With the exception of this year due to injuries, he improved his scoring avg. When healthy, I think he can also improve his defense. As a matter of fact, before injuring his hand, his help defense had been good. And he boards well, which makes him even more "untradeable" unless we're talking KG, LeBron, etc.

you just proved my point
the league is full of 2 guards who can score

Nobody is saying Richadson isn't a fine player

You are trying to make he case that the guy is too valuable to trade for Oneal (or Gasol for that matter) to which you are smoking crack and overvaluing player from your home team

Even with a healthy Richadson and Baron this team is going no where.  2 Guards like J-Rich are the easiest to draft

once again...
we are missing a key question... how would that kind of trade help them?

it wouldn't.  so it can't happen.  if it did benefit them, we'd have to give up too much.

by gsdubz on Jan 6, 2007 1:02 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

it'll never happen, but...
it'll give them a low post presence that demands double teams & likely help them, on average, to get into the ft bonus earlier in quarters.

it'll also drastically improve their rebounding differential, low post defense & overall defense.

he leads the nba in shot-blocking & weighs 260 which is adequate in terms of not getting pushed around by  the kamans, krstics, & mournings of the league (as andris has been). and his arrival would bring instant credibility among the leagues officials. (it always amazes me how much leeway the spurs, pistons, or heat role players get - that they weren't getting before they joined their respective teams)

a line up of bd, monta, barnes, biedrins, o'neal
w/ a bench of either pietrus or diogu along w/
dunleavy, azubuike, foyle should push them clearly above the clippers, kings, & t-wolves for the eighth spot in the playoffs.

w/ the only question mark being chemistry, but o'neal's game seems very team-oriented like rasheed, except more of a post player than a jump shooter. and while possibly hurting them offensively in quarter 1 through 3, it'll help them in the 4th when the game becomes half court. and if nothing else, should vastly improve their defense the whole way through.

i'd hate to see j-rich go, but the w's need big men that nellie will actually play, their rebounding differential (at -6) dwarfs every other team in the league (toronto is the only other team even in the -4's. and that has to do more w/ bosh being out for 12 games than anything) & their d crumbles when biedrins has gotten into foul trouble or plays poorly (w/ the exception of two games by foyle against the rockets & the magic)

but w/ o'neal being 28 yrs old, pacers management would have to be brain dead to make this trade.

How could it help them?
I mean the pacers don't have much other than Oneil and they might be a better team than the Warriors?

The guys is better than any player the Ws have?  What am I missing here?

How could a mobile top C/F who can pass, block shots and get 20/10 per night help them?   I can think of a few ways

by Zig on Jan 8, 2007 9:43 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

wont happen
Oneal and the pacers have a agreement that he wont be traded during the season but during the off season he will problobly be traded

by bor887 on Jan 6, 2007 1:07 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

It will never happen BECAUSE
Jermaine is complaining that his team is not winning(i.e. going to the finals, advancing in the playoffs, etc). Now what makes you think hes going to want to leave the Pacers for the Warriors. He's going to be in the exact same situation he was in with Indy.

Response
About Richardson, it's not so much that I don't value his talent and contributions.  Assuming that the Pacers would be willing to deal at some point, to land an All-Star low post scoring threat who also defends the rim, you have to give up something of value, i.e., either quality talent or expiring contracts/picks.

I'd love it if another team traded to GS their franchise players for our non-core, overpaid guys, but it's not a likely scenario.

exactly
we'd all rather see foyle & murphy for o'neal, but that's never going to happen.

they're also never going to get that dominant low post scorer/defender through the draft w/o lottery ball luck.

it'd be hard-pressed to get a free agent w/ all their over bloated contracts. plus the fact that they aren't title contenders (usually a requirement of most top free agents)

the only chance they have that has a decent probability of happening is trading one of their high-profile guards(baron or j-rich).

i know he's still a little raw, but monta can start in this league & it's a lot easier to find effective back up guards in this league than it is to get dominant big men.

I wonder right now
how much value Richadson even has with the heath

Shooting guards who can score aren't that hard to find

by Zig on Jan 8, 2007 9:45 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No way
Indy would do this

Murphy is untradeable people and Ike and Pietrus aren't great either

by Zig on Jan 7, 2007 7:31 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

i think
the guy that asked how it can help them was asking about the Pacers. Obviously a star big man like O'Neal will help the Warriors guys... that can't be in debate. The only way something happens is if there's yet another Artest/Iverson kind of situation where O'Neal demands a trade and the team tells him to stay home until he's traded.
