Golden State Re-Signs Mickael Pietrus

Hmm, not sure if this has been posted already... if it has then feel free to delete this diary.

RealGM Staff Report -
The Golden State Warriors have re-signed restricted free agent Mickael Pietrus, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

so..
is he just trade bait or is he a keeper?

by jayknocc14 on Oct 1, 2007 8:49 PM PDT reply actions

solid
At the price for one year, absolutely no complaints.

Our roster is either deep or overcrowded, depending how the kids turn out. The best part is our "end run" team is entirely intact, minus J-Rich, but plus Belinelli, Azubuike, Croshere, Lasme, Wright, Kosta,  Hudson, and the expected improvements of Ellis/Biedrins.

I'd be sad if we didn't get a shot to see Azubuike more, but this makes us far, far less resistant to injury (or suspension).

Gonna have some great training camp battles.

Questions? Complaints?

Less resistant?
Yeah, I know what you meant. ;-)

Barring injury, I'm worried about one or more of MP2, Wright, Lasme, Azubuike, Barnes or Belinelli languishing on the bench, but overall I like the signing.

If Monta really doesn't take to the backup PG role, I wonder if he couldn't eventually find himself the odd man out...

oops
more resistant!

Too deep beats too shallow, IMO. Shipping out extra depth usually brings assets back, but adding depth costs you assets, so..good position to be in.

As for Ellis...I'm already looking at what we can get back from Seattle at the deadline or offseason (Ridnour for the TPE and two first rounders!!!)

Questions? Complaints?

meh
Well I guess w/ Foyle and Sarunas possibly gone, they're going to need some replacement cheerleaders.  Plus they'll need someone to keep Belinelli's seat warm... Pietrus and Ellis can alternate at that position.

ahw mann
this signing definetely pushes the minutes for mah boys azubuike and lasme very limited. I am so against this b/c i want to see azubuike shine and not just sit on the bench then go to europe and like tear it up over there. hopefully this is only a temporary move for pietrus until we can get a better deal for him?

He had no choice
but if he wants to be free this is the best way to go.  Hopefully he improves his basketball IQ.

even if he is re-signed
he is still pissed off about not getting a contract/ not getting traded to the heat right? maybe that will have a negative impact on the team chemistry. in the past, pietrus has been a high-spirited player (with no basketball iq), but i am wondering whether he will have that same spirit and team commitment for the team this year, after they played hardball with him

it's a good thing
He's playing for a contract- the best motivation to be a good citizen and productive playing.

Whining or sucking will lower his pricetag, so if his agent has any brains, he'll tell MP to go out and earn his money.

Questions? Complaints?

A logical scenario
I love the signing because he can hold an important role during Jackson's 7-game suspension.

It definitely seems possible that he could be moved (for a draft pick or a talent at another position- possibly a developmental PG) near the trade deadline. The most logical move is to pass him along to the Blazers for whichever PG falls out of favor there, which is rumored to be Sergio Rodriguez

Good
I can't say I'm excited to see him in a dubs jersey again but at that price we are getting our moneys worth. Like others have said already, chances are at one point or another having the extra depth will be a big advantage.

Dude
MP's bitterness stems from the Warriors lack of desire to resign him (warranted). However, I always liked his hustle (although misguided at times) and outright love to wear a W's uniform. Does anybody remember that one post game interview when he kept screaming "GO Warriors" in his broken english. I too hope he plays smarter, but I also hope he plays with the same passion - cause he can be fun to watch!

blah
i would have rather let him walk. hopefully he'll elevate his game since he's playing for a long term deal, or even better dump him to a team looking to shed salary

Trading MP
FYI he can't be moved until Dec. 15 and then the shoe's on the other foot - he'll have the right accept or reject the trade rather than GSW.
