Hollinger's PER Ratings

Looks like these came out this morning:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/rankings?lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos1

I think Hollinger might be going a little crazy.  The fourth ranked Warrior on this list at #141 is Kosta Perovic

I don't ESPN Insider, so I don't what kind of comments he had about him.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Here ya go..
2007-08 outlook: The Warriors used a chunk of their midlevel exception to bring over the 2006 second-draft pick from Serbia. Perovic played in the Euroleague last season and his numbers weren't half bad -- he projects to rebound at an NBA level and be a decent passer, although his offense may not be up to snuff. Perovic is 7-foot-2 but doesn't have a lot of strength and isn't a post player. Not that it will matter -- the mere fact that he's a center means Don Nelson won't ever play him.

Hollinger's projections
Looking at the numbers alone is worthless.

He actually has a pretty write up on each and every player, recapping the previous season, forecasting the upcoming season, and most importantly, an overall scouting report on that person's game.

You may disagree, but he is an objective perspective that knows his isht. Read and compare what your own thoughts are and what he said; where they differ, figure out why.

He gets alot of hate here for projecting Belinelli and the Warriors for mediocrity, but he provides an explanation for what he says- not just random hate or love like so many writers (cough sam smith cough) out there do. For the effort he puts in, I give him his due. I know I've learned alot just by reading his stuff- it's pretty interesting reading his take and then reading the exact opposite style of writing from Bill Simmons. One is a "professor", the other is pure fanboy. Good times.

I agree...
Yeah,  I have actually agreed with most of his PER ratings in the past (I used to be an Insider subscriber.) Much like in Fantasy Basketball, individual stats are not what the Warriors are about.  I just found it weird for him to give such a higher rating to a seven footer who has never stepped on an NBA court before than say Stephen Jackson or Monte Ellis, who may have glaring weaknesses in their games, but still have proved that they can play in this league.

I also did think it was funny that he said that Nelson wouldn't play him because he was a Center.

i consider hollinger to be a crock
he is basically to PER what Chad Ford is to Euros. Overrating guys like Diogu and Nick Fazekas.

I just can't respect a guy who picks the Hawks EVERY YEAR to get to the playoffs - and when they eventually do, guaranteed he'll be all "I called it."

Off the top of my head, the only guy more ridiculous on ESPN than these two is Skip "I hate everyone & thing" Bayless.

marc stein
picked the warriors for the playoffs a couple years in a row

as long as you explain why you're making a call and fess up when you're wrong, I don't have a problem with Hollinger's predictions

he freely admits when a player's projection doesn't jive with reality (in the body of the projection he actually notes in some players' reports that they are likely to defy the numbers).
