When is the Wright time?
So I was watching the round table before the game with a couple of buds. I don't know if I missed anything that Fitzy or Barnett mentioned, but I was really looking forward to watching our subs play. Yeah, I figured BD, SJax, Harrington and Andris were going to play, but watching our reserves is why I was really interested. Buike, you are the man BTW. I knew you were going to start, but damn son, now I know why. You were like that nerdy braced faced girl who came back from summer vacation to unfold into a total hottie a la Petra Nemcova! Buike looked oh so nasty!
So this leads me to this question. WHERE THE HELL WAS BRANDON WRIGHT?! All the hype with a big fat Zero No-Show. Does anyone know why he didn't play at all? He and Belinelli were the two guys I really wanted to see. I don't know if he is still hurt or if he pissed The Don off, but its a little strange as to why he got no playing time. There has to be some reason why. Any thoughts?

Good frigging question
Total head-scratcher, unless Wright and Lasme are both injured, which AFAIK they're not. Maybe for whatever reason Nellie tabbed tonight as the POB/Croshere/Burke game and the next LAL matchup as the Perovic/Lasme/Wright game? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
I'm dying to see Wright in some game action. Even if he falls flat on his face, he'll have had a better debut than the Great Yi (15 minutes, 3 pts (1-3 fg), 0 boards, 0 ast, 6 PF)...

I think it is Nellie mind
He is trying to get Lamse and Wright to get hungry and he is so hard on rookies
For whatever reason he is letting Belli have a pass.
Nellie seems to make up his mind about guys and it takes a lot to change that

Wright, Lasme
POB was a changed man. That guy cannot get up and down the court like Nellie needs, but did we actually see him dribbling? Blocking shots? Rebounding over Bynum and sometimes over three Lakers? WOW. Kosta should be worried.
I hope we get to see Kosta coast next game. Maybe that will be the rook game?
Will Carlos Powell see any minutes?
Barnes, that guy really messed up that opportunity to lead a second tier team. He didn't prove himself as a creator and he had a few shots that were downright ugly. Dribble into the middle of the key for an off-balanced brick?
And why does Hudson think he can make pull up threes in the face of bigger defenders?

answer and idea...
thanks for the idea... come monday when the Warriors play at home next week, I'm gonna make a sign (if he hasn't played by than) that says... in lil' letters "We wanna see Bandon"... and in a big @$$ font blow... "WRIGHT NOW!" (Big ears included!)
Hella corny but the best idea this morning lol!

Absolutely
BTW, Nelson had an interesting quote in a recent training camp article. He mentioned that he doesn't pay attention to rookie's performances in pre-season games as much as he does to their performance in practices.
Of note, POB kicked butt, 12 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 2 assists, 1 steal and 0 turnovers in 19 minutes. That's what I'm talking about. Belinelli continued his euroleague and summer league pattern of no rebounds or assists. But he put up a shot every other minute.

Isn't it Brandan not Brandon?
by lightz0ut on Oct 10, 2007 11:21 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Brandan.
In the Red Sox chatroom, it got to the point where so many posters were misspelling "Clay Buchholz" that the mods rigged the site's code to make all possible misspellings of his name appear as "I am an idiot." Not quite GSoM's style, but c'mon, if people can write Mickael, Andris, and Kelenna, they can at least make the effort with Brandan -- even if Nellie never lets the guy off the bench. :-(

My theory

He's denied that repeatedly
In this case, we're not even talking about rookies making the rotation; we're talking about rookies getting off the bench in a meaningless preseason game ahead of the likes of Pat Burke and Tierre Brown. I just don't buy the "Nellie's playing mind games with the rooks" theory at all. Captain Jack's hypothesis that he's "moving up the cut list from the bottom" makes tons more sense. I'm sure we'll see plenty of Lasme and Wright before the preseason's done.

guaranteed deals
Perhaps Nellie is evaluating just in case a move is in the works, perhaps there are potential moves in the works, but my guess is that Brown, Powell and Burke are practice fodder to make sure there's enough fresh bodies on the floor. They never had jobs to lose and my guess is that they must know that they really don't have much of an opportunity to win a job either. They need the guys to run some of the drills perhaps and there's guys willing to go to an NBA camp accordingly.
Why did he play them? Hard to tell. Motivation to the kids? There are other coaches who scout to grab cast offs who might be a better fit elsewhere. Perhaps there's some sort of promise to the guys who don't have a snowball's chance to make the roster that if they practiced hard, helped out to make camp run smoothly that they'd see enough floor time in a preseason game or two to potentially impress another GM either in the NBA or some other pro league. If that's the case, game one would be the time to do it as any time closer to the launch of the season would be more disruptive to establishing a regular rotation for the regular 82.

So I guess we'll just have to wait and see how he treats Brandon Wright as the season gets going...
