OPEN THREAD: Preason Game #5 - Warriors vs. Spurs
Warriors (W-L): 3-1 (preseason)
Time: 5:30PM EST (no radio or tv)
Today's marquee matchup: Spurs' 2005 1st round draft pick Ian Mahinmi vs. Warriors free agent signee Carlos Powell. Or would you prefer Spurs' Darius Washington vs. free agent hopeful Tierre Brown?
It's about that time in the pre-season where teams begin resting their starters giving the wannabes a chance to prove themselvse as legitimate ball players. Pat Riley, coach of the Miami Heat, has already hinted publicly that the preseason is a little too long and the fear of injury haunts most any team. Though, what might be more intriguing than the above matchups is seeing whether POB can develop some consistency that he's had so far in the preseason and when Bellinelli will finally realize that all white sneakers is only hot with khakis or baggy jeans.

Someone get this man some more colors on his shoes!

The Warriors take on the reigning NBA champions in San Antonio tonight, which will probably be as interesting as an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond." The Spurs would probably be the equivalent to Ray Romano (perhaps more specifically Tim Duncan), where they (the Spurs) are continously successful year to year but you sort of have no idea why given the level of talent (or jokes in Romano's case) on the team. Well, if success is Ray Romano, then that's what the Warriors should try to strive for.

Will the Warriors be killing it like Ray Romano this season?
Predictions:
* Spurs by 5
* Spurs hopefuls show off their flopping skills ala Bruce Bowen and Manu Ginobili
* Kosta Koast goes coast-2-coast!
UPDATE (Atma Brother #1): Warriors lose 111-116.

SCORE

by kaszowski on Oct 18, 2007 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
"Winning"
Spurs lead.
Spurs up.
Spurs leading.
Warriors trail.
Warriors down.
Or just: 55-54 Spurs.
Take your pick. Not to be a language nazi, but saying X-team is "winning" sounds kinda like calling baseball runs "points" or saying someone "made a homerun."
If you're foreign, my bad. Otherwise: consider that your lesson #1a in proper sports diction. ;-)

Thanks Kaszowski
The audio link didn't work for me. I already have an acct at nba.com so I went to the Spurs link and it prompted me to register/log in so I did, with my existing account, but never saw a Listen Now button or anything like that.
Then again I also only tried for about 90 seconds. Thanks Kasz.

breakin it down for crazyray
spurs shot 51%
warriors pulled down 41 boards
spurs grabbed 52 boards
outside of KAz, i couldn't find alot of positive in tonight's game...
plain and simple: we got schooled by their scrubs
here's a telling line from one of their "big guns" (quick, what's this rook's first name):
D. Washington 30 mins; 5-9 shooting; 7-8 free throwing; 9 boards; 8 dimes; 3 rips; 18 points
WTFElson?!
WTFOberto?!
WTF!!!!
Oh, it's just the preseason you say? Then why is Kaz playin' 38 mins, TMNT- 32 mins and No. 5- 29 mins? Against their scrubs!
Not good y'all. Not good.

good breakdown
- we actually had more offensive rebs (14) than the spurs (11). Hopefully, like Jack said, they've got to just step it up on defense and move on.
- We tied the Spurs' second string in blocks (6) and got 2 more steals (8). Not that impressive.
- And funny thing is that both teams left 7 pts at the charity stripe. But our extra fouls sent them to the line 32 times compared to our 24.
