Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Have you ever been *pissed off* before?!

Hey, has anyone ever said something about the Warriors that pissed you off and got you heated? Are you that much of a die hard fan, where you end up getting mad when someone says a certain something about your team?

I don't know, there's something about the line "Warriors are a fluke team" that gets me pissed as hell. Especially when the person saying it, acts like they know for sure that we are. If you post on basketball forums on sites like RealGM, ESPN, etc. then you might know what i'm talking about.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not like i'm a whiny crybaby about those comments... i'm just saying that all the hate towards the team gets annoying.

Best line ever? The Warriors motto is "We Believe", but the way they play, it's as if they're thinking "We KNOW".

Questions? Complaints?

Actually,
Last year during the Mav's Series, I remember reading an on line blog saying that if the mavs were to lose the series against the dubs, it would be disasterous for the NBA, because the dubs style of basket represented everything wrong with the NBA.  It was pretty long and the blogger went as far to say that the dubs would be a flash in the pan and that the warriors don't know how to develope young talent.  Oooh I was pissed...

WOW
The Warriors' style of play represents everything wrong with the NBA??? Warriors basketball is a breath of fresh air, everyone's free and can play at a higher level that way. And we work HARD to get our buckets, we run more than any other team in the league. We led the league in steals and forced turnovers and we use that to play the running game that we're known for... it also caused us to lead the league in points off of turnovers and fastbreak points.

And the Warriors don't know how to develop young talent? We have a 21 year old who won the NBA's Most Improved Player award. We have another 21 year old who, being a Warrior since he was 18, became a double double threat and is shooting 59% from the field.

People are so accustomed to seeing the Warriors as a bad team (12 years is a long time), that any sign of success causes them to be in disbelief. This causes them to discredit the team by calling them "a fluke" and other comments similar to that. Screw them.

This should make the upcoming season a great experience. It's always fun being the underdog and proving people wrong.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 8, 2007 4:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Dude
95% of hoops fans and analysts around the country love the Warriors, think they're incredibly fun to watch, and give them a great shot at repeating last year's success.

It's pretty easy to scour the internet and find a few silly people saying silly things that get you hot and bothered. Whatever floats your boat...

by Sleepy Freud on Oct 8, 2007 5:58 PM PDT up reply actions

that's weird too
it's nice for the dubs to get all this love now. but it was only a year ago when we were a joke team and had no support. oh well...there's nothing to really complain about.  if we have a lot of casual, fairweather fans, it probably means it's a sunny day in the Golden State.

by sadleavy on Oct 8, 2007 6:12 PM PDT up reply actions

That's ridiculous
The way the Spurs play is everything wrong with the NBA. It should be fun. The Warriors' style is what basketball is all about.
Get well, Monta!

yeah
and it also shouldnt be cheap shots like bruce bowen does or flagrant shots a la robert horry to steve nash.

Yeah I get heated
I was arguing with a dumb drunken girl who is a laker fan last weekend.  Her whole argument was "but the warriors suck".  My argument was "but you don't know what you're talking about".  I won.  At least she was hot, and not a dodger fan!

no, never
first of all, i assume everyone on here is a die hard warriors fan--which basically means, u pretty much know ur shit when it comes to the dubs, especially compared to random peeps.

so, anytime someone talks shit about the dubs(how can they tho? we are going to be such a dominant team) its likely that u kno more than them, so u can get them to explain themselves, aka make them look like morons.

however, if the person does know some NBA(very rare) and they do know some dubs, they might have true criticisms such as "you guys cant rebound" to which I reply "true".

but serious, if warriors.com is all you read, we are going to be freaking awesome this year.  I agree with them. quality website.

Side Note- Remember when we first traded for Boom Dizz and went 18-10 with him as a starter, and we ran over all these playoff teams?  And people were saying(people! i meant to say "losers" like mike dunleavy and troy murphy) man, i wish the season wouldnt end?   ok, that feeling was duplicated finally during last years run, but the crazy thing is that feeling of confidence HAS CARRIED OVER TO THIS YEAR.

were going to dominate. go dubs

A more recent
blog post that got me a little miffed was in a miami heat online blog a came across.  The adminstrator of the site was dissin the w's for the way they handled barnes and pietrus this off season.  And how they'd be better off in Miami.  They said the warriors are just being cheap and how they're just mistreating their talent.

they are super talented, we mistreated them, thats why other teams were begging to sign these guys.

i mean, they must have gotten a lot of offer sheets right?

I heard
From John Hollinger's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend that there was this guy who knows this girl who's going with a guy who made an unkind remark about Brandan Wright's big ears. Friggin' hater. ;-P

I got pissed...
when I watched onthebuzzer's preview of the '07-'08 warriors on youtube.  they don't know jack squat (C'MON, ADONAL WENT TO THE MAGIC!!)  and Nellie doesn't care about defense????  That's his favorite subject to coach in basketball!!!  Those guys have said nothing that I don't know already.  Seriously, I'll only like listening to people talk about something if they actaully know their s**t.  Otherwhise, I get pretty annoyed.

...it's pretty obvious that everyone's heard something about the warriors that pisses them off, usually from one another.

The view from London
I am a big Warriors fan living in London, although I don't get to games (I have only been to one, against the Hawks in Februrary when I was in California visiting relatives). 3 NBA games are shown here every week (which I watch, whatever team, even if they are in the middle of the night, I will record them). I come on here a lot and see what is happening with the Dubs, also go on NBA.com and get Audio League Pass so I can listen to live commentary of every Warriors game (I listen to them when I can).

Over here, I get annoyed a lot because people don't know their stuff when it comes to the NBA and just write off Golden State, saying they suck... Pretty much everyone either supports:

The Lakers because they are popular, famous, have titles and have Kobe,
The Spurs just because they've got a good record in the last 10 years and because there is a football team called Tottenham Hotspurs and all Tottenham fans support San Antonio because of the name.
Or The Celtics (because of their great history).

I hate the Spurs because of their domination, dirty tactics (such as Robert Horry antics against Phoenix and Diaw and Stoudemire getting suspended for standing up) and boring style of play) and the Lakers because they are Warriors rivals, their fans are often stupid and because they are too over-hyped and over-rated over here, most people assume that the Lakers have the best record and don't realise that they were the 7th seed (8th if they had lost to the Kings on the last day) and knocked out before we were.

I don't mind the Celtics though as they are in the East and after they have done badly in the last few years, I have wanted them to do better. They are playing tomorrow against the Timberwolves at the o2 Arena. I'm going to see that game, KG's first game against Minnesota and Boston's 2nd game with their new all-stars Garnett and Allen. I am looking forward to it but I would obviously much prefer to see the Warriors play live as I have only been able to see them play once and on that day, when Baron and J-Rich were injured, SJax missed a buzzer beater and we lost to the Hawks; from then on, though, we gathered momentum and made our playoff push, which I followed a lot and stayed up through the night during the playoffs (we are 8 hours ahead of Pacific time here in London).

pisses me off
I grew up in the bay all my life and have been a warriors fan for a looooooooong time (92-93?).  Last year during the playoffs, I was still going to school in New York, and anytime I wore anything warriors or cheered for them, someone would always want to point out that I was a band wagon fan.  That always made me heated as hell seeing as the people in New York who would claim that they were warriors fans couldn't even name the starting five at all..
