Trade Idea

For those looking for something involving Kobe, please turn to the next diary.   This is more pedtestrian stuff.

POB for Kirk Synder

Kirk Synder is currently languishing on the bench for the suddenly too deep Houston Rockets.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/stats?statsId=3833
I wouldn't call him good or anything,  but he is an athletic swing man, who depsite not being a good ballhandler, would fit into Nellie ball.  He is a decent 3P shooter, who shot over 35% his first two seasons.  Last season was mostly a lost cause, as he sat with a wrist injury.  He's very good at rebounding, blocked shots and running the break.

Sure, he's a bit of a repeat of Pietrus, Buike and Belinelli, but on any given night, he could  be the best of bunch.    And let's face it, Nellie is much more apt to play an athletic swingman than POB, Wright or Croshere.

POB is likely to just take space on the  bench.  Why not make a salary neutral trade (both have  expiring  salaries) for someone who could actually be useful?   And cut T-Hud, while you're at it!

Nellie
Has to get over his reluctance to play bigs or unfamiliar players.

Snyder is useless until Nellie demonstrates he's willing to expand his rotation beyond Barnes and Hudson.

He hasn't shown that yet...after all of one game.

I wouldn't make this deal unless Barnes/Pietrus gets hurt.

Remember, we have Jackson coming back in two weeks, and Snyder would be further down the depth chart at his respective positions (2/3) than POB (backup 5).

Well
I'm talking about exchanging 12th men.   Neither  one is playing.  Salaries are the same.  Saying that Don Nelson, who is a legend among NBA coaches and has prefered small ball for years, should start playing bigs, is just not going to happen.

Kirk Synder is a decent player, likely better than Belinelli and probably on a similar level of Buike and Pietrus.  Nelson has said he wants to have a deeper team,  but if his only roster  choices past Buike and  Pietrus are Hudson, Belinelli and bigs that he's not going to play, he's not going to play anybody.  There is no downside to going deeper.  Again, he's not going  to play POB.

i've been thinking about
writing a diary, but i'll put it here instead.

I've been thinking about the state of Golden State. With our current team, we aren't designed to go deep into the playoffs. We can't match up with the Utah's, San Antonio's, or the Houston Rockets. And we all know the road to a championship runs through those teams. I'm sure Mully doesn't plan to design this team to be a perennial 7th or 8th seed. Here's what we need to do.

I predict for our current team, We won't make the playoffs. We'll be close, but i think we'll just miss the playoffs. This would net us a mid first rounder, anywhere from 12-14.

Here's what we need to do. Re-sign Biedrins, i'm guessing with Jefferson's contract as precedent, Biedrins receives a 5 year, 55 million dollar contract. We extend Baron another two years at 35 million. This basically takes care of all of our remaining cap, so no other major free agent signings.

We need to improve ourselves through the draft and through trades and roster re-formations. We need to pattern ourselves the way Phoenix does. Here's what i suggest.

starters:

  1. Baron
  2. Kelenna
  3. Al
  4. Wright
  5. Andris
second team
  1. Monta
  2. Marco
  3. Jackson

  4. POB
We need to move monta to a reserve rol as a supersub. He needs to be our Barbosa. Think about it, With the warriors committed to resigning Baron, where does that leave Monta? He has to be a reserve as long as we have Baron. But we all know monta is not much of a playmaker, which is why Jackson gets moved to the bench as well, ala Boris Diaw. We need an offensive creator to start the offense. Having Marco on the bench gives us another scoring threat off the bench. All these moves are designed to make sure our offense does not become stagnant.

In my plan we don't resign Thud, MP, Barnes, and croshere. We do resign  POB, and Monta. which would put us close to the luxury tax.

Now, the offseason moves i suggest we make to give us a better chance against the Utah's of the league.

As Option suggests, trade our second rounder to chicago for Chris Duhon. He is a rugged defender and more of a playmaker than monta. It also gives us depth behind Baron.

We need a rugged post defender to make it past the first round. Since i couldn't find any of those in a realistic trade scenario, our best bet is through the draft.

Here is where i suggest we draft Tyler Hansbrough (Yes, i know. but hear me out), He has a decent post game and an improving mid range jumper which would allow us to play him along with AB. He also is a fundamental post defender who has enough mass to put up a decent fight. He still needs to bulk up, but that'll come with time. we also should find a guy who can come in and play right away. Baron ain't getting any younger.

So with our current roster, here's what it looks like:

  1. baron
  2. kelenna
  3. Al.
  4. Wright
  5. AB
  6. Duhon
  7. Monta/Marco
  8. Jackson
  9. Hansbrough
  10. POB
We need to play bigger. We need to integrate more bigs into our running attack.

As long as Nellie is our coach, i doubt we play two bigs for any stretch of time.

Again this is all dependent on the improvement of our rookies and monta and AB.

of course if we really suck this season and get back into the lottery, we should pick Darrell Arthur out of Kansas. He is a legit PF with decent post moves and an NBA ready body. This is just my thoughts, although with Baron we'll need another consisten scorer to pair with Baron. Hopefully that'll be one of Monta, Kelenna, Wright or Marco.

rookies
No one in the draft will affect our standing up to Utah/SA type teams. Expecting a rookie to handle Duncan/Boozer...

Don't forget to re-sign Azubuike.

If you want to change the team, you're gonna have to put Ellis and probably some combination of Pietrus/Barnes/Harrington into some sort of deal to get a PF.

TPE => Artest
Ellis + Pietrus + POB => Abdur Raheem + 2nd

Just like you, just throwing ideas around. Kings are gonna attach Artest to one of their frontcourt players. I don't like Raheem's contract very much, but for getting Artest, I guess thats what it takes. Plus at least Reef went to Cal, might get some hometown love (only a year) and he has some perimeter game that Nellie likes. He can also still score on the block since he's very skilled.

Money is ugly tho.

Hmmm
Would I rather have Snyder than POB? Yeah

Do I think this deal makes us a better team? I don't know.

Just because of our current roster and the skill-set of Snyder I'm not sure he is as usefull to us as POB right now (I can't believe I'm saying that). I'm really not sure if I like the deal or not. I think I'd like to see how Nelson uses POB over an extended period before I trade him for someone with a redundant skill-set (even if it is a slight upgrade).
