Report: Magic and Lakers trade

According to Hoops World, the Lakers and Magic have agreed to a trade. The Lakers get Trevor Ariza; the Magic get Brian Cook and Maurice Evans. Orlando cut Bo Outlaw to make room on the roster.

The deal gives the Lakers another athletic swing player, that had fallen out of favor in Orlando. The Magic get some size and shooting in the deal, and used their medical exception to absorb the salary differences.

Trevor Ariza makes $2.7M and has a player option for $2.9M next year.

Brian Cook is due $3.5M this year, '08-09, and '09-10 ($10.5M total).

Maurice Evans makes $1.5M and is a free agent after this season.

The Magic, apparently, were down on Ariza and wanted wing help. Evans is athletic hustle player, but mainly the wanted an offensive backup big. They already have Foyle, this year's impending DPOY. Cook has a small/medium sized contract, important for a team paying Nelson/Howard/Lewis much of their cap space.
