OPEN THREAD: Game #11 - Warriors @ Wizards

warriors-wiz.gif

Warriors (W-L): 3-7
Wizards (W-L): 6-5
Time: 4:00pm PST
TV: FSN Bay Area
Radio: KNBR 680

Hope you got up early this morning to work off that masala turkey! Today's post Thanksgiving 12 game festivities around the NBA include a matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the artists formerly known as the Washington Warriors. I just don't feel right bestowing the Washington Warriors honor upon them without Gilbert Arenas and even Larry Hughes, but hopefully February 11 when the Wiz come to the Bay Area we can return the Washington Warriors title.

They may only be 6-5 (haha like a Warriors fan should be talking!), but don't take the Wizards lightly as they're one of the hottest teams in the league with their current 6 game win streak. The most impressive part about their streak is that Arenas wasn't there for the past 3 W's. Caron Butler is coming off a career-high 39 points against the Charlotte BETcats, before his ankle sprain Brandan Haywood was putting up some impressive double-doubles, 'Tawn is still 'Tawn, Antonio Daniels has stepped up with Gilbert's absence, Andray Blatche has been a joy for the Wiz, and even rook Nick Young has dutifully pitched in.

The Warriors and Wiz split the season series last year and both games were wildly entertaining. We'll always look back on last year's game in Washington as the day the refs went color blind and couldn't see red, but let's not forget what happened in the rematch game in Oakland. GSoM Night was born. Win or lose you know this game is going to be fun and full of drama.

Predictions:

  • Warriors by 2
  • Boom Dizzle goes off in the nation's capital with 20+ points and 10+ dimes.
  • Antawn Jamison goes ESPN Classic and begins the first of back to back 51 point games tonight (still one of the most underappreciated Bay Area sports accomplishments of all time). Well okay maybe that's being to hopeful for our former friend. I see at least 21 for him today on a bizarre array of scoop shots, hooks, and odd drives.
  • Kaz rebounds from his struggles against Boston and drops 20 points for the first time in 6 games.
  • Caron Butler has a great all around game and drops 20+ points and picks a few pockets along the way.
  • The Warriors shock everyone and win the battle of the boards. Oh wait- Brendan Haywood's playing? Uh-oh. (And yes that means the Warriors front court has issues.)
  • Andray Blatche has a career game and notches double digit points and boards to complement some highlight worthy swats.
  • The Dubs improve on those problematic numbers from their first 10 games.

Definitely check out our man Mike Prada's preview of the game over at the super, speeding fast Bullets Forever too. He's good folks.

Throw up that W!

Good run - 21-20 Golden State
Not going too badly, looks like there is going to be a lot of scoring and not a lot of defense in this match. Has anyone got a link to a stream of the game? For the Knicks & Raptors games, people did and that helped me (as well as other people) watch the game; it would be great if someone had a stream for this.

Wow..Washington is better without Gil
No wonder Gil came out today and said he wanted to re-sign with the Bullets.  Before his injury he said he was going to test free agency and now he wants a contract after his surgery.    I guess he had me fooled..i thought he actually was passionate about his team, but it seems like he is all about his character and personal finances.  What a sellout.

Bredan Haywood
seems to be a good guy. Though he elbowed Biedrins, it didnt seem intentional and I'm going to acknowledge him for apologizing to Biedrins. That is a player with good sportsmanship!

even the refs are puffing. If they will eun with us, we have a chance. Baron at 22 has 1/3 of the Dubs points.

by ballin on Nov 23, 2007 5:18 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

OUCH
Not liking this game. Really, we should drop 140 on a poor defensive club, but we're not cashing in our opportunities.

The biggest thing, again...again...defense. Where's the energy? Why all th e miscues and open players? Put a freakin' body and man up, it's like they have no PRIDE?

Shoot, even if I were totally out matched, the absolute, i mean rock bottom LEAST u could do is sell ur body on the defensive end and crack a guy one time so he doesn't drop 30 on you without spending a tooth or a pint of blood. This is where you miss Barnes, he's knock some fool out happily.

Blatche: vastly improved, far exceeding my expectations for him. Wow. Steal at $3M/year.

Wright: activity is good, fumbled rebounds not good. His shot over Blatche was amazing (but he shoulda pump faked and got a dunk.

Ellis found his J, bout darn time.

I really think POB could do some damage against Blatche, matchup length for length.

Biedrins: 7 boards, but defensively might have run into a guy even quicker than he is in Blatche.

Lastly, and everyone brace themselves:

HOW NICE IS IT TO HAVE ANTONIO DANIELS, A QUALITY BACKUP POINT GUARD?

He draws fouls, he distributes the rock (not this game, but normally), he's a huge 6'4", he never turns the ball over (carer ast:TO ratio > 3). Heck, he's big enough u could put him next to Ellis in the same backcourt. Man.

Really, u cant win when the other taem shoots over 50% AND out boards you.

24 > 23

WE NEED A BACKUP POINT GUARD

tough play by pietrus
nice work to protect the lead by putting his body on the line - we go into the 4th with a 1-point lead - we'd be losing by one if he didn't draw that charge.

Warriors tweaking their uniforms? Really? I didn't notice, besides the Warmups, which change every year.

They also noted how we're called "Golden State" instead of Oakland....will the debate ever stop? Golden State OWNS!!!!

Good win - 124-115
I am pleased with the win - I was disappointed we didn't pull away earlier but Butler had a great game with a triple double and Jamison did well. Baron really stepped it up for us and it was the 3-pointers that won the game for us - especially from BD, Azubuike and Jackson. With the Lakers likely to lose in Boston and the Hornets facing a tough test in Utah, we should hopefully gain ground on them - now let's end the road trip with a win in Philly.
Stat of the Day: First time two opponents both got triple doubles in the same game since 2003.

crazy game. i was nervous about the wizards missing arenas since we've all seen the dubs lose to a team missing their star player many times in the past. i'm glad they pulled this one out
