what in the world?
wow
Just to let you all know
Dallas Bias
Erick Dampier ahead of Camby, Gasol, Kaman, Biedrins, Chandler, Aldridge and Okur?
Jason Terry ahead of Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Baron Davis?
I hope the voting changes; Stackhouse and Dampier shouldn't be anywhere near the All-Star game.

WOW
Stackhouse sucks!!!!! What we need to do is sign TV contracts with ESPN and TNT so the whole country can watch us. Thats the problem. Not enough national exposure.

The categories are lame
There's a legitimate case to be made that Baron is the only the 3rd best point guard in the conference, but it's absurd to think that Carmelo Freaking Anthony and Dirk Freaking Nowitzki deserve to be there above him. Yes, I know it's about popularity, not "deserving," but realigning the categories would make total miscarriages of justice less likely.
What is it, 12 guys? Perfect, four per category:
- Points: Baron, Nash, Paul, Iverson (sorry, Deron and TP)
- Wings: Kobe, Ginobili, Marion, McGrady (screw Dirk and Carmelo)
- Bigs: Duncan, Boozer, Amare, Camby
Whoops

Well...
The NFL All Star game is an afterthought because it's after the season (nobody would be willing to risk the injury during the season). The NHL doesn't matter anymore (did it ever). The MLS doesn't matter yet. And the MLB All-Star game has the same problem as the NBA: Bigger fanbase = more all stars. I say problem because an "All-Star" game should be the best players. If it's going to be a popularity contest, call it the "NBA Favorites", "Players from Teams with Money to Spend on Voters", or "Players with the Biggest Fanbases". But then the NBA wouldn't make as much money. See, it all comes down to $$$$. If you want Baron in the game, spend some cash and convince others to spend their cash.

Agreed
The basic point about the stupidity of the categories stands. I wonder what Tim Duncan thinks about the fact that the #1 player in the West "at his position" is Carmelo Anthony.

how does it work again?
ya
I like JVG's idea of expanding the rosters to 15 players. Yes, there will always be debate no matter how large the rosters are, but 12 is just too small of a roster since we end up almost arbitrarily leaving players out that have very similar credentials. After the top 15 there will be a larger gap between the players that get in and the players that don't.
All-Star status
Identifying the best players in the league is what the "All-NBA" first and second teams are all about.
People vote to see who they want to see in the All-Star game, and that's all All-Star players should get credit for.
The connotations that go along with being an "All-Star" need to change though. It doesn't mean you're the best, it means you're the most popular. NBA Analysts can't say "well so-and-so was 6-time AllStar" because it doesn't mean crap, really.
