Clippers cut Ruben Patterson

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/players/hollinger?statsId=3274

He's a guy I thought the Warriors should have signed in the first place.  Now, he can be had for minimum.  I'm sure he would be a more productive player than Croshere or Mbenga. Obviously he would be better than Hudson, but when the Warriors cut T-Hud they will have to pick up a guard.

Patterson is a good player who has gotten off to a bad start.  Also, he can't shoot, so he'd fit right in with the Warriors.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Long Time Warrior Killer Too
I don't know if we'll get him, but he has been a long time W-Killer (or at least it seems like it).

Also heard he is a big-time Bung-Hole...

Well...
the last thing I want on the Warriors is a certified Bung-Hole
My pictures never show up here, so this is my new Signature

by djchuckdeez on Dec 13, 2007 3:04 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

yes
just read this, and thought the same thing. I think he could add some physicality. Hopefully, he wouldn't want too many shots.
WELCOME TO THE GUN SHOW!

Patterson's shots
He's not a guy who needs the ball.  Gets his shots off of garbage and energy plays.  He's a terrible shooter, but none-the-less he scores well, as he has a nose for the basket. He's got a great motor, ahtletic and good defensively - can guard the post - so I could see Nellie playing him at PF and C.

Yes, he is supposed to be an a-hole, which may account for him being cut.  But at the minimum veteran salary, or whatever, he would be worth the risk.

Why wouldn't we want
the self proclaimed Kobe-stopper?

Obviously we can't beat the Lakers for ish, we should get him so he can be our designated kobe stopper.

Put a little mustard on it

DJ Mbenga
No way man, we can't give up Mbenga, he's a monster in defense, Biedrins is getting better playing against him in practice, he's pretty athletic, I truly think Mbenga is a good fit for the Warriors....I hope we can resign him and work on his offense

by Waldini on Dec 13, 2007 3:20 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Mjenba
I don't think he has offensive potential, he's got Foyle-like hands of stone and no offensive instinct.  He's a pretty good defensive player, but I think Patterson would be a more effective overall player.

by San Francisco Slim on Dec 13, 2007 3:26 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That
is completley retarded. We dont need another f'ing ounce of offensive potential. Have you seen our bench? Theres potential running down half those guys legs.... we need boards, and defense, and someone else to get techs besides the important players. Keep DJ. Let Ruben go back to the east.

by STIX on Dec 13, 2007 4:03 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Patterson
is probably a better all around defensive player than Mjenba.  he can gaurd both inside and wing players.  And he's a much, much better offensive player.  The thing about the guys with the offensive potential on the bench, they are not playing.  And Patterson wouldn't cost money.

by San Francisco Slim on Dec 13, 2007 4:32 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

asdf
cant argue with that.

I must give DJ his props
i was a little tentative at first. I saw Adonal 2.0 all over him. But he's shown to be servicable.

The Kobe stopper will get picked up by someone. Sooner rather than later.

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

wow Dj is better than thud and croshere
he gets more playing time for a reason

by 8monta on Dec 13, 2007 4:31 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

He's certainly better than Hudson
who is pretty worthless.  And much better than Croshere defensively but not offensively.

by San Francisco Slim on Dec 13, 2007 4:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Wut?
More productive than Croshere or Mbenga? Croshere and Mbenga have been doing a solid job when they get the chance to play. Patterson would be a nice addition, but he doesn't fit. We need a guy like James Jones or a guy who can chuck up 3's and make them. :) A 7 footer wouldnt be bad too.

yeah
Croshere isnt that bad

by djchuckdeez on Dec 13, 2007 5:31 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

No way!
There is Stephen Jackson bad, and then there is Ruben Patterson bad. Jackson is a good teamate and I don't think Patterson would mix well in our locker room. Let him be someone elses headache........along with THUD.
Everytime he dribbles down the court, pulls up and takes an early three, Nelson should pull him. Isn't there a young cat in the D-League who can distribute and manage the game for 5-10min a game?

Yeah...
...when was it that Patterson forced himself on that girl? I think it happened in Milwaukee.

Forget Patterson, Bring in Smush!!!
Smush parker would be a better addition to the team because we are in dire need for a back up point guard, and he has had tons of experience in LA as a starter, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to get him if the price isn't high, which it shouldnt be.

by celicadriven27 on Dec 14, 2007 5:20 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Smush
  • Career 71% FT
  • 13.4 PER in the one full season he started, 12.2 career
  • From the Miami Herald: "The Heat have decided to keep Parker away from the team because of his unresolved legal issue and insufficient conditioning..."
At least THud keeps himself in good shape and hits his FTs.

Pass.

Good Point
Fair enough, but why not give up Pietrus then. Miami wanted him, and he doesnt play like he wants to be here. He gets called for dumb fouls all the time. I dunno how many 3 point plays he gave up the past two games when somebody was driving the lane and he just had to tap them. Pietrus is playing with no heart right now, so why not give him up and it would allow the younger players to get some minutes. Just a thought.

by celicadriven27 on Dec 14, 2007 10:27 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

another undersized forward?
I think we have enough of those already.

I agree though, first one to go, if anybody, should be Pietrus.  I didn't like the signing for him at $3.5mil, even though it is kind of a discount.  We coulda filled that roster spot with a minimum salary player and I bet our record right now would still be 12-10.  Plus we'd have an extra $3mil to play around with.

Mbenga figures into Nelon's plans
he likes him and he brought him in for special assignments against big centers so it seems unlikely he is going anywhere.
