Random: Should the Warriors have drafted a PG?

I know it is early in the year, but seeing T-Hud (written before he was pronounced done for the year by the Don) and Belinelli struggle and Lasme get cut while Monta and  Kaz thrive, I couldn't help but wonder: what if the Warriors had drafted a PG this year?

Star-divide

Looking back at the draft, only a few guys jump out where the Ws drafted.

I think BWright was a great pick, but what about Marco?  Is he as NBA ready as we thought and will he fit in the Warriors rotation in the next few seasons like we had hoped?

Monta and Kaz have manned the starting SG spot very well so far this year and, imho, both deserve moderate long-term deals.  With SJax and Barnes on the wing, Marco's minutes will be limited.  Was he the right choice to replace Jason Richardson long term?

Or should the Warriors have given Crittendon a shot?  From what I can tell, he has a ton of potential and is a big guard in the BD mold.  I may get blasted for this suggestion, but would having a big pg with a lot of potential and talent (who if he had stayed another year might have jumped quite a bit in the draft) be a bad thing?

Baron needs a solid backup and we have yet to find him one.  The Monta at PG experiment is on hold.  THud is a joke and will be cut.  Where does that leave Baron and his balky knees?  Belinelli was supposed to take some ball handling duties, but he isn't getting any minutes.  We are left with Jackson and Barnes handling the rock, and, while serviceable, is not ideal.

Furthermore, the Ws cut Lasme to pick up this Mbenga guy (or stone hands as I like to call him).  There were some interesting guards taken after Lasme too:  Ramon Sessions, JamesOn Curry, Taureen Green, etc.

I am just interested in what people have to say.  Would the Warriors have been better off going with a point guard at either of these spots and avoiding the THud experiment?  Or is this upcoming draft full of PGs to fill our needs?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Joakim Noah
Javaris Crittenton

and

Farmar/Lowry/Rodriguez/Williams > POB

hell

Ronnie Brewer > POB

and while we're at it

Ronnie Brewer > Rodney Carney

I haven't been too happy about the past two drafts.

I was screaming for Brewer in '06 (pre-GSoM on Scout.com)

I was almost dead certain we were gonna take Crittenton until Stern said Belly Nelly.

Man

How sweet would ...

Baron/Critt
Azubuike/Ellis
Jack/Brewer/Barnes
Harrington/Cro
Biedrins/Noah/Mbenga

have been

those guys are ready now and fill all of our needs:

PG
perimeter D
reliable skilled backup big man

I would've liked
a haul of:

06': Marcus Williams
07': Joakim Noah and Daequan Cook

Noah and Cook could've made the potential losses of AB or Monta much easier to take. It also gives the Warriors a lot of options and flexibility. If Noah proves himself better than AB then we could look for options on a sign/trade. Same with Monta.

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

Javaris is a stud and i wish we took him

i wanted javaris crittenton
but more importantly, i wanted sean williams, whos proving to be a beast out there, with his 8 block performance last night. crittenton has and incredible amount of potential, and i wasnt too happy with this belinelli pick, and i still am

by Thoang77 on Dec 19, 2007 1:19 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

man i wanted him too
But since we got BWright i think it would have been awesome to get Crittenton. if we never made the trade for brandon, i was definately hoping for Sean Williams i just wasn't sure about his off the court problems

by Proof on Dec 19, 2007 6:09 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah but
Sean Williams was off the board, unless you wanted to pick him at #8. Williams at #8 and Big Baby at #18 would have been a nice haul.

THud
Just heard on 680: Nellie says that THud's career is over due to a hip injury.

Here's the link
"I think Troy's probably done," coach Don Nelson said after Tuesday's shootaround. "I don't think he'll play again. I'm serious. It's unfortunate, but he has a hip problem, and I haven't heard a second opinion, but it doesn't look good for him.

"He's going to have to have a new hip as he gets older, but we're quite concerned about him being able to play again. Right now, we're talking maybe four to six weeks off and then check again. But he has some spurs on his hip and arthritic conditions and it's just not a positive for him."

Zabian Dowdell?
I threw out his name in one of the pre-draft diaries a couple of months ago. He was getting pretty good hype from Draft Express, even as a probable second-rounder. He went undrafted though. Wonder what happened to him.
We're all B.D.'s sidekicks. He's got like five sidekicks. We're like the Power Rangers. - Al

Don's mouth
I think we can trust this one.  I really don't see him saying things like this about a medical condition to "motivate" somebody.  And please don't anybody chime in with something insulting.

The THud experiment was fun while it lasted.  I enjoyed watching him in Minny during that memorable LA series.  Best of luck in the next phase of his life, whatever that ends up being...

Udrih
I've been kicking and screaming over that Warrior blunder.  He would have been perfect as a back-up, and probably would have loved to play in Nellie's offense.  He's a big guard too, people forget he's about Baron's height, 6'3.  Shame.  Well maybe we can work out a buyout (is his contract even guaranteed?) and fill that empty roster spot with a different guard.

no need
He's only making 800k or so. Just cut it and be done with it.

He's also still being paid by the Timberwolves as part of the buyout.

Good news unless we sign Boykins to replace him (knock on wood).

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

Udrih
Would have been a great free-agent pick-up. He is a good passer, can shoot the 3 or from close, has a high FT% and is playing well now in Sacramento.

Anybody know how deep PGs will be in the 08 draft?
It seems top heavy if Mayo, Rose, Bayless, Collisson, etc. come out, but who will be there when the (hopefully) playoff bound Warriors pick?

Just asking for your opinions as I do not watch much college basketball.  Sorry, I misinterpreted this as an open website where people can make comments, have opinions, ask questions, etc.  My bad OZ.

All I was doing was providing websites where you would be able to find the information you were looking for and educate yourself.

Sorry I misinterpreted your request to be coddled and spoonfed as a request for actual helpful information.

You know what else is a good website?

Sad story
As bad as the guy has played for us. It sure sucks to have to end your career on an injury.
Never the less, we need to bump him and get some help NOW

I mentioned this already
But D.J. Augustin would be a great Pg in our system.  He's a great PG with a lot of skills.  By the way im a big texas fan in Oakland.
i hope we win a championship soon

Isn't it obvious by now?
We can throw Brandan Wright right out because he was, and always will be, trade bait. We never wanted him and will never use him (even if we do need him!).

Taurean Green could've been interesting, but Jameson Curry is a shooter, and absolutely nothing else....I saw him some at Oklahoma State.

As for Lasme, he was spoken positively of by Don Nelson....but unfortunately, factors worked against him. We already had a logjam of bigs (Croshere, Perovic, POB, and Wright) on a team that....hates bigs. And while Perovic is probobly worse than Lasme, he actually has potential, while Lasme is pretty much developed. Then, the need for a big banger came up for Don Nelson, and Lasme was too small for that job. So, he got cut :()

Marco has shown a lot of potential, but he...simply hasn't played, and has refused to go down to the D-League. So that is that.

My Draft Boards
Were:
  1. Yi, B.Wright, J.C. , Strawberry, Belinelli (In that order)
  2. Aldrige (Bad Draft Year, College Ball sucked)
  3. Paul, Felton, Bynum, Green (In that order)
  4. Dwight ,Okafor (I was aware that both were very high)
Out of these, I wish we took Bynum (Baby Ike). And Took DJ in the 2nd Round instead of Lasme.

Let's see how Bellineli plays out.  He hasn't had that much time to adjust to the game.
