Provocative question

Have the Lakers surpassed the Suns in the West? I know it's early still, but watching Bynum have his way with Stoudemire, Van Gundy posed a legit question: would the Lakers beat the Suns in a seven game playoff series?

Star-divide

Van Gundy weighed in on the matter and felt the Lakers would win a seven game series with the Suns, so did Bill Walton. I know Bill Walton is crazy, but I'm inclined to agree with him. Additionally, both the Suns and GS need a legit backup PG. The team who figures out how to land one first might get the leg up in the drive towards playoff seedings. Thoughts?

Bynum
is developing into a monster.  The scariest part is he can play big, productive minutes against uptempo running teams (like us and Phoenix).  There aren't many reliable, post-scoring 7footers like that in the league, who can hang against running teams.

yeah
it seemed more shocking to me last night, but that was after a few Christmas libations. Now it just seems kind of obvious. My bad.
My girlfriend hates that I'm into basketball again, and that I yell at the TV during games.

I hate to say this
but LA is a pretty good team. At 18-10 their isnt really much to say about them, except for can they get any better?

I think...
They presents unique matchup problems, but I also think that LA is playing over their heads.

Give the suns a chance to reload
The Lakers and Blazers are playing some excellent ball right now with inside/out attacks and excellent execution by their 2 guard initiators. Nelson said before that we couldn't hang with the Lakers and much of that is due to Bynum.  Kobe's anger with Kupchick reminds me of Jordan's tirades about the Cartwright/Oakley trade and their lack of ability to deal for Harper in his prime or Walter Davis.  Anyway, the Lakers do seem the Pacific's top team this year as long as they get contributions from the 3 spot.  Walton, VladRad, and now Ariza look like some matchup advantages.  I really like Ariza to step up in as a super-Tayshaun and start for this team.  They are super deep and seem to have plenty of scoring all of a sudden.  Triangle offense takes a long time to learn, but once established, it is indefensible.

What can DAntoni and Nash do to combat the triple post?  Deny the ball in the lane and front-defend?  Full court press?  The West is definitely more dynamic than I imagined with the young teams really stepping up with more energy and intensity than the older (formerly-elite) ones.

as much as i hate to say this
but the lakers are good and they could beat the suns in 7. they dong have an answer for a big man who is willing to run and is able to. and if it was not for kobe feeling himself he would of beat us twice. dam why the fakers why!
What you thought that I only played basketball? I AM A Golden State WARRIOR!

For reals
The Fakers are actually good now and I'm hating life for it. The Suns might still end up with a better reg season record but the Lakers have a good shot of actually beating Phx this year. Their victory was the worst Christmas present ever for me. Even worse than that one ugly sweater I got.

Faker fans: scarier than zombies if they were real.

back up point
im getting tired of hearing about this.  it would be nice to get another point in here that is good, but we got monta and baron and that works fine.  do you really think that a guy who could come in and play 10 solid minutes at point would give our team "a leg up?"  i really think that this backup point gaurd idea is overrated.

Until
Baron gets injured.  Or Don Nelson comes to the realization that we can't keep making Baron Davis play 48 minutes in blowouts in the first half of and throughout the season, and then still expect him to play at a high level when the playoffs arrive.

Does everyone really believe that Baron and Stephen Jackson can continue to play 40+ minutes every night and they're not going to get worn down or injured?

If we got a good point guard we could afford him as much as 18mpg behind Baron's 30mpg and we'd get the best of everything that way.
