Jazz add some three point shooting

Well the slumping Utah Jazz made a trade this morning. Looks like they really wanted to get rid of the menace Giricek and added some three point pop to the lineup.

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired guard Gordan Giricek and a first-round draft pick from the Utah Jazz for guard Kyle Korver on Saturday.

I don't know if the Jazz acquired any different #1 picks in the past so I assume they are moving over their own.

It does give the 76ers some cap flexibility after this season. Giricek is on a 1 year contract, while Korver is a on a 4 year contract. I wonder if this is the start of some player dumps by the 76ers.

I hope this trade doesn't jump start the Jazz and gets them back on an up swing, but I just can't help but think that it is going to help just by getting rid of the hassle Giricek around the team.

Awesome move.
I figured Utah was gonna target a Mike Miller, but Korver is a much cheapler alternative and one they can get without trading a more important cog than Giricek.

Good move for both teams actually
Philly is trying to set themselves up with major cap room this summer.

Is this a first sign as to what Stefanski's going to do with Miller? Miller was previously deemed as "unavailable" with Billy King, but with Stef, maybe he's resigned to the fact that getting as far under the cap is the best way to go.

If the sixers do send out Miller, they can re-sign both their two main FA in Igoudala and L williams AND sign a major free agent whether it be Josh Smith, Ben Gordon, Emeka Okafor.

Couple that with their lottery pick this year. I feel Philly has the brightest future it has had in a long time.

Good move for Utah as well, they haven't had a decent 3p shooter since Fisher left. Korver is also cheaper than Miller.

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

wow
Good move for the Sixers. Presumably they move Miller for an expiring and get another $10M in relief, which should allow them to lock up Iggy and throw max deal at someone else. And they added a pick for the future.

For Utah, Korver probably assumes the former Matt Harpring role of bench swingman. He's a weak defender so he won't steal too many minutes from Brewer or Kirilenko...but if the Jazz decide to go small and take Okur off the floor, Korver could provide the 3P shooting from the small forward position.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

This should work out for both teams
Korver is an excellent three-point shooter and is near 90% at the line. The Jazz needed some three-point shooting and this could (although I hope it doesn't) be the move that gets them going and winning games. Like OZ pointed out, he isn't a good defender so he won't get loads of playing time but he should be a good pick-up for the Jazz - should Korver stay healthy most of the time.

Philadelphia is in rebuild mode and getting a 1st round pick as well as an expiring contract will help that.

I wonder
which big free agent(s) the 76ers are gunning for. I guess we will see if/when they deal Miller.

Great trade
for both sides.

If I were the 76ers I'd try to steal Josh Smith away from the Hawks in the offseason.
