The Real Reason The Warriors Beat the Heat

You guys don't get the real reason why we won. It's because the Heat lost. The Warriors players may have put up a good fight late, but the Heat made a crucial error with about 10 minutes to go.

They took out both Mourning and Shaq. After winning all game and having it their way, they decide to try to small ball with us when there's 10 minutes to go with a team of half-retired men. That's just stupid, the only guy who could really do it was Dorell Wright. Shaq has the best plus minus on the team at +7! Mourning had third best at -3! The only other person who was not in the negatives was Jason Williams, who was injured in the first half, when the Heat were winning!  Shaq was perfect from the field! So why, Pat Riley? Why?

Probobly just to prove some stupid point to Shaq.

So, in any case, it was a good win.

And Miami....I feel sorry for you.

Addendum: Shaq played only 21 minutes last game, and 21 in this one. AND he's complaining about not getting enough minutes. So there goes that point.

Poll
Which Theory is better?
  • We beat the Heat because of our overall clutchness.
  • The Heat lost the game themselves by trying to small ball with us.

Wow
Talk about a total lack of respect for Pat Riley.  Would you really think he was that bad of a coach?  Read coach Nellie's post game comments, he basically stated that the Heat were on a back to back and their big men were just too tired to keep up with our squad so they had to go small.  Otherwise obviously they would have kept Mourning and O'Neal in the game.  So it's to Nellie and the dubs credit for sticking with their run plan even while behind to wear out the Heat and take the win.

He had been sitting for a long time
I mean, you couldn't put him in for a couple minutes? Honestly? Id' rather have Earl Barron in there than noone, at least.

Earl who?
haha you're good with your facts man, I'll give you that.

Well...
...I'd like to think we had something to do with it. I can entirely understand not wanting Shaq, slow and plodding as he is, playing against us in the 4th on the second night of a back to back. Add in his terrible free throwing... I can understand it on some level. Alonzo Mourning can still keep up, though, and he should've been in if Shaq was going to sit.

by Zack Vank on Dec 8, 2007 2:08 PM PST   0 recs

Yeah,
they should've put someone in.

hypersmall lineup
When Nelson sent Barnes in for Harrington we had 5 perimeter guys - what was Riley to do but fall into his trap? Shaq didn't play heavy minutes the night before, but maybe Riley was worried about hack-a-shaq? ... still we had to make some plays & hit some shots down the stretch ...

by hardcore on Dec 8, 2007 2:11 PM PST   0 recs

Shaq could have punished us inside, easily
and Hack-A-Shaqs only occur when Mbenga is on the floor, so I wouldn't worry about that.

And yes, some plays, but comeon! The heat barely put up a fight.

who is you guys?
even Riley admitted he should've kept shaq in. I don't think theres any debate about this.

THe only thing worth debating in this thread is saying we only won because of no shaq or mourning.
I have to disagree there. The reason we won is because Baron found his perimeter shooting. And also because he managed to get wade to TO a few times.

by saintdee on Dec 8, 2007 2:36 PM PST   0 recs

While I do acknowledge you for realizing
that Shaq should've been in, I disagree on your second point. Who cares if we would've gotten hot, noone is to say that Shaq couldn't of come in and just canceled all of that out? He is Shaq, after all.

A little bit of both....
Shaq not being in was definitely a big factor, but the W's still had to make the plays.

by ThermoElectro on Dec 8, 2007 2:47 PM PST   0 recs

Why we really won
Hey, we won because the Heat folded in the fourth quarter like tents.  We wore them out and then we able to get hot when it counted--in the fourth. And, as everyone said, Riley took and kept Shaq out at the right time for us.  And let us not forget the faithful 'We Believe' crowd which was allowed to get back into the game as we started to get close.

I can still see Harrington and Jax lifting their arms while imploring more Dub emotion.  I love the sound of "Defence" and "let's go Warriors" ringing in my ears.....

You call me ancient, I say "oldguysrule"

by commish on Dec 8, 2007 3:10 PM PST   0 recs

I can see that being a factor....
But noone can say that Shaq couldn't have come in and dominated us. He was playing light minutes.

Nevertheless, we will never know who is right....

once the annoucers mentioned that the heat
were gonna try to the match the warriors smallball, i knew we were gonna win. shaq, who not only is their 2nd best player, absolutelyt KILLED the dubs. poor decision.
we will miss your j rich

by ripjrich on Dec 8, 2007 4:23 PM PST   0 recs

we won
because we wanted it more

by djchuckdeez on Dec 8, 2007 5:05 PM PST   0 recs

also...
anytime you play one of the oldest teams in the league on the back end of a back-to-back (especially on the road), when the game the night before was close, AND thier point guard, who was playing well at the time, sprains his ankle in the second quarter...you have a good chance of coming back.

I wonder if
ANY of the fan blog sites of the teams that beat us in the 1st 6 games had diary like this.

LOL

Could you a imagine if MAVs Moneyball had a diary "The Mavs beat the dubs cause they didn't have S.Jax" ?  Or maybe the Need for Sheed's "We wouldn't have came back if Stack Jack played"?  NEVER in a million years.

I know.  I check out all those other sites.  This is the NBA and mercy is for the weak. For whatever reason - be it injury or a coaches ineptitude, there are times during the season when all the right horses aren't in the game for you when you want them.  Players still gotta play.  That's what they're there for.

They lost cuz their 5 on the court couldn't beat our 5.  Case closed.  We've been on the bad end of that equation enuf times for me to rightfully state that we were due.

Best duo since...

I mentioned in the game thread
that one of the Heat's fall out was playing small ball with us.

But you have to give credit for the Warriors making the run. It's not like we get free points because Shaq is on the bench we still have to make the shots and that's what we did.

by lightz0ut on Dec 8, 2007 11:06 PM PST   0 recs

poll is incorrect
because here can't be just one reason why W's get out with win
-my opinion -both reasons

and -is fact that Pat Riley is not a genius some bad reason for win? -i think coach is big big big part of team

Does it really matter?
I mean, a win is a win.  I don't really care what EXACTLY occurred for that win to happen.
