A Notorious Comeback?

Guess who was in the building for last night's big win against the NY Knickerbockers? Yup, Project O'Bryant (from the Contra Costa Times)...

Rookie center Patrick O'Bryant was at the game, his NBA Development League team having already hit the All-Star break. "I kinda got my confidence back," said O'Bryant, who hopes for a call-up after averaging 15.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.44 blocks over his last nine D-League games. "Hopefully, me stopping by will put me in their heads again."

With all the injuries to Baron Davis, Mickael Pietrus, and Jason Richardson Nellie has had to put out some creative lineups that have been pretty defensively challenged. POB could be an extra big man for Nellie to throw out there when Andris Biedrins gets into foul trouble and Adonal Foyle misses wide open layups/ dunks.

GSoM friend Tim Kawakami is all in favor of bringing back The Notorious P.O.B. as part of Tank Mode. Regardless if you're in the "go for the 8th seed" or "tank it for the loaded 2k7 NBA Draft" camps, it seems like there's no better time than now to bring up POB right now and play him some minutes on the hardwood. At this point, the Warriors have absolutely nothing to lose.

Any guesses about the next time we'll see Patrick O'Bryant jammin' with the Dubs?

POB's got his haters here
and TK can be rough and influential.  But, you cannot call a guy a bust until his 3rd year period.  We're all salivating over Darko but how long did it take him to earn some PT?  We've got the best big man assistant coach in the game and 2 young centers.  According to Fitz and Barnett we lead the league in blocks and steals. (I have to check that stat, its so hard to believe) But, clearly Biedrins is a massive part of that.  POB came in soft.  Nellie fired him up.  How did he respond?  I'd love to see this guy put it together for 12 productive minutes a night.

salivating over Darko?
No people just think the guy might be a decent fit.  Make no mistake for Detroit he is a huge bust

How much did he play?
Larry Brown was not going to play him.  Maybe it was his dig at Dumars for not taking Melo.  Early reports was that he was stinking it up in summer league.  But, preseason, he was on a lot of top 50 lists.  And, he's proven to be a quality low post presence.  So, the ultimate bust in Detroit actually turns into a young big that numerous NBA teams want.

give him a shot
i'm all for it. If even to just put another big body down there to play D and save Beans from foul trouble. I have a feeling he will be serviceable.

Hmmm,
The Jam haven't hit the All-Star break yet.  They have a game tonight.   It will be interesting to see if he plays tonight.

big numbers
if he can continue to play like that, then there is no good reason the team shouldn't bring him up. God knows, they can use the rebouding and more inside presence (i.e., block shots). Imagine POB and Biedrins playing a twin towers set. It certainly would be fun to watch.
Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious.

It will
NEVER happen, because Nellie is EVIL!!!!!!!

POB will be alright if:
  1. Nellie doesnt go "Full Metal Jacket" on POB and ruin the rookies confidence.
  2. He gets tougher.
I think we, at times, under estimate a) how much impact a 7 footer can have on a game and b) how a 7 footer doesnt have to be Bill Russell to have said impact.

But, then again, I still see Todd Fuller in my nightmares, so what the hell do I know?

lol - confidence?
Nelson has only one more chance to take him down further: bring him up and send him back again!

seriously, what'd it hurt to bring him up now? we have the space on the bench ...

As a die-hard Bakersfield Jam fan...
I would be crushed if he left. This team has championship written all over it. Plus, why would you want to leave Bakersfield?

O'Bryant
Give him a chance.  Give him some NBA playing time, get him to gel with Biedrins, then in a couple of years we sign Webber as a free agent, thus ending the curse, and then will we finally get into the playoffs.
Ronald Reagan was a jerk.

I don't personally
like the idea on AB at power forward at all

So with that said I think Folye still gives you a much better back-up center at this time

Still I think the kid should be called up just for his ego.  I see no reason to declare him a bust yet

only problem is
they've been losing most of those games. during his run began, they were 0-7. the jam have only started winning since mateen cleaves and scooter mcfadgon joined the team 4 games ago. 3-1.

I Think He'll Be Back
I think maybe Nellie plans to bing him back for the big push after the All Star break.

It's frustrating seeing all the first year players going to the Rookie-Sophomore All Star Game, while the GSW first rounder is still in the developmental league.

Remember Nellie had nothing to do with drafting POB. That was all Mullins.
