OPEN THREAD: Game # 55 - Grizzlies @ Warriors - Beginnings

0221warrirosgrizz

Warriors (W-L): 25-29

Grizzlies (W-L): 14-40

Time: 7:30PM PST tip off

Tonight it begins again. This is to say that it has already begun once, but it did not begin to the proper standards. Thus, tonight, we shall re-begin the beginning. This should sufficiently render any previous beginnings as null and void. Or at the very least, the first beginning is now an end. In its place is a new beginning. Kind of like a Phoenix, only way less dorkier.

Wait, how could something be a beginning and the end at the same time?

I wish I could give you the past minute of your life back. Let me try this again.

Tonight, Jason Richardson returns. After only playing 23 games so far this season, he has spent his injured time honing himself into a well oiled machine. Dropping pounds and hitting the Arena floor long after we are all warm in our beds, JRich is back and ready to rip.

He's probably a little rusty and I'm sure his minutes will be limited, but if there is one thing we can all say about Jason, it's that he plays with serious heart. I wouldn't say this about every player, but I think that simply having him out on the floor tonight is going to create a great energy amongst the rest of the team and the Arena as a whole. For those of you going tonight, get ready. Also, I think they're giving out free MacGregor hats to the first 5,000 people who show up so, y'know...get ready for those too!

Vegas Odds: Warriors by 8.

GSoM Prediction: Jason is going to take it easy on minutes tonight but still put up over 15. Monta gets 10 assists dishing the ball to Jackson, Harrington and JRich. Warriors break the lead open in the fourth. Dubs by 6.

Make sure to drop your vote for who you think will win in the Comments. If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

LET'S DO THIS WARRIORS!!!

UPDATE: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 2:

WARRIORS WIN IN OT!! 118-115
Plus if the playoffs started today, the Warriors would be in!!

Stay tuned for the Recap!!

A must win
you've all heard kawakami. everyone has heard the stats.  We've basically got to win A LOT to get to the post season from now on.  The 2nd worst road team in the league all of a sudden has to turn into a nomadic juggernaut.  We've got to win 90% of our home games yada yada.  The outlook is, from a statistical standpoint, not very good.

However we got HOPE baby. we got some serious flow right now. cant describe it cant explain it some serious hyphyness flowing through this team right now.  No Baron? No problem.  We've got Tay(dont think that he isnt going to GO NUTS the 2nd half based on his all star appearance/domination).

Did I mention Jason Richardson in all of this?  Last year, there were whispers of superstar surrounding this guy.  This guy is a freaking star when hes healthy.  Hes the de facto leader now with Baron out.  S O U L.

Which brings me to my subject of this game being a must win.  If we dont win at home against the Memphis Grizzlies(a real bad team even when they won 49) JERRY WEST OVERRATED. JERRY WEST OVERRATED. good gm but not jesus in the front office. no bryan coangelo or dare i say chris nellie? typo on purpose.

I digress tho.  This game is a must win because we NEED to win every game now more than ever. especially at home. especially against the grizzles.  especially with the return of OHHHH SH*T DID YOU SEE THAT?

HOPE HEART SOUL

go dubs

Hey buddy...
They're playing the grizz, not the Nets.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

Nets?
Yeah, that error was already mentioned, but props to Hash for an extremely well written preview. GO DUBS!

I always do that. I swear I'm not using a template. Wait... I am. Big win tonight. Biiiiig win.

we better win this game sheesh

Fat Finger Hash
Actually goldenstatewarriors.com says they are 14-40. I'll fix that right now. I'm fat fingering the keyboard left and right today. So yea, 14-40. They are that much more potent now. Do not take them lightly.

They lost last night
so you were right the first time.  they are 14-41.

anyone else get the feeling
that it's actually jax that we need to step up big to win games without baron?  if jackson and monta come out strong i'm not going to panic.

go you dubs bastards!

Warriors by 10
It's at home and JRich is baacccck. Their backcourt can't hang with ours even with BD out. The key to this game is going to be stopping Pau Gasol from having another career night against us. Last year he really killed us with his passing. Get in those passing lanes fella and we're all going to be happy tonight.

jrich
will explode for 63 points tonight

by djchuckdeez on Feb 21, 2007 2:40 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Interesting subplots
  • Is this JRich's last game with the Warriors?
  • Is this POB's last game with the Warriors?
I'm praying that JRich stays a Warrior of course. Murphy and Dunleavy are the ones who need to go!- Oh wait...

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 21, 2007 3:00 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

hopefully no
i don't want to trade jrich nor pob.  not now.  their value is at an all time low, both of them. if harrington turns into a real 4 and bangs in the post, we will be fine.  pob can continue to get better and jrich and jax can penetrate on the wings.

by eshock on Feb 21, 2007 3:53 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

we probably won't trade either
but POB is likely returning to the minors.

if we trade anyone, i'm guessing Pietrus and Cabarkapa's contract for a journeyman big man.

could be MP's last game
anyway, can't wait til the trade deadline expires as long as JR is not invloved. Anyway, my predictions:

JR - 8 pts, 5 rebs, 2 swats
Ellis - 17 pts, 3 rebs, 7 assts
St. Jax - 27 pts, 4 rebs
Kelenna - 16 pts, 8 rebs

at half-time, MP cleans out locker to make room for __.

Dubs by 3 in OT.

You wouldnt trade Mickael Pietrus for Kevin Garnett straight up? Are you insane?
With KG on our squad we would be automatic title contenders for sure

George Takei on Tim Hardaway
I couldn't make a diary or find any relevant ones, so I'm just going to throw this link in here.

George Takei, aka Hikaru Sulu of Star Trek fame, gives a public announcement on Tim Hardaway on behalf of the gay community.

i dunno...
my predictions:

i say a close loss.  Still shaking off the long weekend, warriors can't contain chucky atkins and mike miller blows it up more like reggie miller in his hey day.

jrich looks rusty but everyone is excited that he's healthy again!

by dj fuzzylogic on Feb 21, 2007 6:07 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

i don't see how this is so un probable
that we go to the playoffs.  i mean our record sucks right now.  we've lost more games then we've won... that sucks.  and we've got one foot in the playoffs picture.  all we have to do is just not suck that much and play a little over five hundred (not that great)

by travisl212 on Feb 21, 2007 6:55 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

that's what i say
most of the first half of the season has been a combination of playing thru injuries and playing like sh!t, yet we're still only 1/2 a game out. some of the injuries are still there, but with j-rich coming back the playing like sh!t should be minimized.

Tay for WW
Mike miller was shooting out of this universe tonight, scarring me to pieces in the process. Wunderkind Monte was there to save the day though, delivering us a win we had to have by making shots when we had to have them go down. He also had a nose for a couple rebounds there in extra time too.

Just a stunning OT performance and thats when your best players shine.

HEY.
J-Rich is the warrior wonder tonight. There was a swing there with a J-Rich 3, and then the oop from Jax to Rich. Turned the game around.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

Agreed
Plus JRich hasn't won it all year yet. I loved his rebounding and hustle tonight. He follows other people's shots and makes things happen.

We're gonna have to bribe Hash in case he had a really good sandwich tonight-- give it to JR dogg!

Gotta love it.
Yeah..

Truthfully, there was a distinct difference in the warriors before the break, and these new dubs. Fact of the matter is, in my eyes, without J-Rich, this team wouldn't have had the direction to pull this one out in overtime.

The heart he brings to the team is irreplacable. Taste that all you J-Rich traders! THE MAN IS IRREPLACABLE!

freakig mike miller
We made him look like larry bird out there...

to the GSOM mods... it would be nice (very humbling) if you could put a piece together that shows all the non-stars of the teams that lit up the warriors this year... i.e. Kapono, Turiaf and Keyon Dooling etc. It would be interesting to see. It seems like there is one person every game.

by sluggah316 on Feb 21, 2007 10:49 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah?!
Mike Miller has been lighting teams up all year. He's averaging 18 points and I've seen him well below that plenty of times this year. He can go off on any given moment.

One thing I will agree with was that they left him open too much. But he was going to score regardless.

agree
Mike Miller is not a no-name in the NBA.  If you have been keeping track, I think he had a span of like 5 games in a row that he made at least 6 3's.  He was making ridiculous shots tonight, great game for him.
Also agree he was wide open too many times.

Great Game
I was only able to see the game from the 6:00 mark of the 3rd quarter, but it was a blast.  The arena feels different with JRich in the house!  I didn't expect him to have 19 pts the first game he comes back!  If not for Mike Miller we'd win it in 3 quarters but nonetheless it was heck of a game to watch!  Especially in the 4th when JRich hit that 3 and everything just came together.  BTW, Monta is clutch.  Getting in the 8th spot is awesome!!  I don't think we've been in the 8th spot at this time of the year for the past.....what 10 years?  Whatever, go Warriors!

The Associated Press can be very mean sometimes...
