This guy is our most talented player, bar none. He is the next AI but is a better shooter. Extremely quick hands make up for his lack of size and experience on D. He's shown to be an excellent double teamer with Andris on big oaf-y centers like Gasol. (I really thought Pau was more dexterous than he showed last night)
As he makes consistent improvement and improves his BB IQ, he will learn to play the point and create for our deep starting lineup's strengths. Speaking of deep lineups. I have defended Baron Davis from Day One here at GSOM. But, at this point, I think Monta needs to continue his development as a perrenial All Star and coming off the bench will hamper that. I mean with Nellie Ball, the key is quick rotations and matchup exploitation. The PG role is a physical one. Initial penetration is on them and if everyone else is playing well, they should get by their defender and be collapsed on at the rim.
I think Nellie wants to keep JR off the bench for a while and I hope he keeps it that way when BD returns. Mainly for his leadership and energy. I don't see Jax or BD being happy as 6th men. But, I can't wait to see our 3 guard rotation which still leaves lots of bench players to fill in at the forward positions. Another key to this is that Harrington needs to commit to be a low post player and become a Double Double garbage man. He's skilled but, turns the ball over too much when he dribbles. I'm not sure if he can accept the role, but we sure need him to be a 4th or 5th option so he can concentrate on getting the boards. This is a team that Monta can run by slashing, finishing, dishing or popping. He should continue to be our first option on offense because he is unstoppable, baby. Or, maybe FT shooting alone will determine who plays the last 5 min.
