OPEN THREAD: Game # 56 - Warriors @ Clippers - Stakes Is High

warriors-clippers.jpeg

Warriors (W-L): 26-29

Clippers (W-L): 25-29

Time: 12:30pm PST

TV: FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 680

Are you ready for a little Saturday matinee fun? I know I am. Let's get this Saturday started right with another addition to The W Column.

The Clips have to be the most underachieving team in the league right now. This is a squad that was within one game of the Western Conference Finals last year, but this season they're 4 games below .500 and battling for their playoff lives. On paper they should be a lot better than they are. Pretty much everyone on their team is playing worse than they did a year ago. It seems like the Clips' players have quit on their coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. Corey Maggette and Coach Dunleavy don't seem to be the bestest of buddies either.

Do I feel sorry for the Clips who have kindly split rent with us in the Pacific Division basement for so many years?

HECK NO.

Stakes Is High
This is a must-win game for the Warriors on the road. The playoff implications are obvious with the both squads having dreams of having some epic battles against the West's elite in April, but the Warriors simply just need a win away from The Oracle. A win in Staples will give the Warriors more confidence on the road where they are currently the league's 2nd worst team. Their 6-20 road record is just embarrassing. Only the Memphis Teddy Bears who the Warriors beat in OT earlier this week are worse. As GSoM friend Tim Kawakami stresses the Warriors have some serious road woes.

Along with GSoM buddy ClipperSteve from Clips Nation we wanted to make the stakes even higher for this lunchtime hoops-fest. At first he suggested that if the Warriors lose I have to go out on a date with Chris Kaman and he gets to go out on a date with the Warrior Girl of his choice. Uhhhh, I threw that idea out the door real quick. So we settled on this:

  • If the Warriors beat the Paper Clips today, ClipperSteve has to post 5 reasons why he loves the Warriors on Clips Nation.
  • If the Clippers beat the Warriors today, then I have to write 5 reasons why I love the Clippers here on Golden State of Mind.

Come on fellas don't let me down today. I DO NOT love the Clippers.

Vegas Odds: Clippers by 6 (as of 9:33am PST from Fox Sports)

Predictions:

  • Warriors by 1.
  • Jason Richardson drops 20+ points and is a force on the glass with 7+ rebounds.
  • Monta Ellis to the rim x3.
  • Either TMNHarrington or Action Jackson put up some nice assist numbers.
  • Elton Brand goes for 20-10.
  • ClipperSteve gets to write 5 reasons why he loves the Warriors.

Track of the Day: De La Soul- "Stakes Is High"

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

* Also make sure to head on over to ClipsNation and show them a little luv from Dub Nation.

THROW UP THAT W!!

UPDATE: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 2: Also make sure to check out the OPEN THREAD over at Clips Nation and talk a little trash. Keep it clean though!

UPDATE 3: Warriors lose a tough one 90-103.

Stay tuned for the recap...

12:30 PM game

I had a feeling I might've missed it. Thank goodness I hit up GSoM before I missed anything.

Warriors will win by 8
Clippers aren't good this year! We have JRich back and i think we'll start to pull away from these games. Once JRich and Baron are comfortable playing with Jackson and Harrington ... watch out!

wow
this game is muy imporante. If we win and Denver loses(they play Dallas, so there's a good chance), we will be in a three way tie with NO and Denver for the 7th spot!

Lets do it!
Brand can do all he wants, but they have no one else contributing regularly.  Perfect chance to gain some ground in the race.

yeah, i'm stuck at work today. i got the game recording at home, but i don't think i'll be able to resist checking in before i get off.

I jsut wish you didn't have to get that damn league pass. KNBR streams everything except NBA and MLB games b/c they won't let them.  greedy greedy corps. oh well.

thanks though. i gotta go find a radio somehow.

Elton Brand
8 points in a little over 6 minutes? Maybe it's time for a little 2-3 zone with Foyle and Biedrins down low.

i can't recall
has nellie ever played beans and foyle together?  i'd be interested in that. i wonder how much it would bog down our transition offense or offense in general.

monta
5 assists in first qrt already. who says he can't learn to be a point gaurd that distributes?  we all know he can score (or at least get to the rack) when he wants to, but i like to see him getting everybody involved. especially j-rich--so good to have him back!

i dont think
its the defense of the clipps its more the warriors hurting them selves.  they need to develop the offense before we start throwing up 3's.. ive seen it all season long where its starting to feel like the other team is gonna separate from us and we flinging up 3's.  its called tactical patience!!! develop the play and calm down!!!

Holy crap I love this team!
Whether they make the playoffs or not, I think I like this team more than any edition since the Webber-Owens-Spree-Mullin-Hardaway crew. Basically all the things that I didn't even dare/dream/ about are coming to pass:
  1. Dunmurphy out of my life forever
  2. Biedrins blossoming before our eyes into our first serious big man in ages
  3. JRich back and totally kicking ass
  4. Monta starting at PG and making Baron look expendable
  5. In the thick of the playoff hunt
Sorry if I jinxed us at halftime, but I couldn't stay in the closet for one second longer. The expression of true love cannot be denied. Carry on...

by AJC3317 on Feb 24, 2007 3:00 PM PST reply actions

Yeah.
It's pretty much tough when the warriors lose sight of what they're good at. They didn't run, and they lost because of it. It also doesnt help that no matter how good we play defensively one team gets way hot and lights us up. It's getting ridiculous. First Mike Miller and now Elton Brand.

Playoffs in '07, baby!

To Atma...
Trying to help you out with that bet against ClipperSteve... You love the Clippers because:
  • Without Dunleavy Sr, there is no Dunleavy Jr, and thus no Funleavy Foto Fun.
  • It was a home game for the Clippers. Short commute home for Baron.
  • Apparently the Clipper dancers are mostly naked (you might want to verify this for yourself, since I just read about it in ESPNmag.)
Okay, after that I got nothin'.
Be a drinsch!

Serious?
I thought the Clippers didn't have fly dancers, but instead boring cheerleaders.

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 24, 2007 4:39 PM PST up reply actions

A LOSS IS A LOSS IS A LOSS...
i'm obviously very, very, very disappointed in this loss today against a division rival and team that just jumped us in the standings, but what discourages me more is the fact that a loss is a loss regardless of where you're playing!  of course being away is tougher because of the fans, but c'mon...they were in LA (not against the LUCKERS), but against the CLIPS that don't have that many fans.  i don't think i even heard their fans cheer during the game!  and again, losing is losing so to me it reflects maybe just how good one team is or how bad the other team is.

it's true we can't get into the playoffs based on one win RIGHT NOW, but this game could provide costly for us down the stretch.  there really is no tomorrow.  we need to start winning NOW regardless if it's on the ROAD or at HOME!

GO WARRIORS!!!

by scottiepimppen on Feb 24, 2007 3:22 PM PST reply actions

For Atma
The Clippers
-remind us that not all the players coming out of Duke are soft, poor defensively, and/or whiners
- are not the Fakers which is a plus in my book
