sometimes jackson makes me miss dunleavy

there i said it. and todays game against the lakers just makes me even regret that we traded dunleavy. i guess im just being to hasty and expexting a complete 180 after the trade but jackson's turnovers and bad passes (most of them to biedrins)are just to much to take. the only thing thats keeping jackson on my good side is that he can shoot and wont be afraid to post up bigger players than him a la Mike Bibby. but hey thats just me. consistency has always been a problem with us and i dont think we have solved that problem yet. hopefully that'll change soon cuz those PLAYOFF PUSH PACKS are sounding mighty good right now.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Jackson actually had several nifty passes
on the pick and roll. My frustrations with him  are when he continues to jack up threes when he can't even hit a mid range jumper. Drive, damnit! Post up! Usually when he does either of those things he's successful. But it's mostly a matter of consistency.

lol.
This diary is a stretch.

Every time we lose a game we have 2 or three crybabys who cant take it.

Man, I'm crying too
But not enough to miss Dunleavy. Never enough to miss Dunleavy. As ESPN's Sports Guy put it:
I don't like any multiplayer deal in which you're giving up the two best guys in the deal AND taking on an extra $30 million in payroll over the course of the deal. Call me old-fashioned.

Not sure if who was guarding Kevin Martin in the Pacers' blowout loss to Sactown tonight, but given that K-Mart went off for like 35 I'm kind assuming it was our old friend Junior.

Ya, and I do agree with Simmons too. To me, this trade isn't really that close.

D'oh
Sorry, gsw4l. Actually I knew I had seen it quoted here too -- probably should have cited you and Bill Simmons.

It's funny, I don't like Simmons that much when he's trying to be funny, and even as a fellow Bostonian (by birth) I don't really dig all the pro-Boston stuff, but I have to say on hoops he's usually spot on. He may be the most consistently good NBA analyst going. The whole article from which that quote came is definitely a must read.

I agree
his NBA analysis is awesome. It's probably cuz he's like me - he has NBALP and just watches games all day. I know he's active on Celtics blogs, too. Unlike me, though, he gets paid...

Who was guarding Mike
Miller the other night?  I hear he got off 27 shots and dropped 45 on the Warriors

by Zig on Feb 26, 2007 2:48 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

If you didn't know by now
Mike Miller is like Dunleavy, only good.

Also we won that game, doesn't really matter now - except for the fact the Dubs haven't won since then.

Best news today was that the Warriors didn't lose to make it a 3 game losing streak, by default - since they didn't play.

wow...
my view on jackson's strengths and weaknesses are pretty much the opposite of yours.  yes i do kind of envy indiana because word is that they are playing much more like a team and are more consistant, somehting that we are not.  jackson and al are pretty good but they are kind of dissapointing me.  the main thing that dissapoints me about jackson is his shooting.  we should enough brick threepointers as a team and he mainly adds to the problem.  the main things about him i like are his passing, defense, and postup and drive ability.  he had like 12 assists the other day!  Al is dissapointing me because he is definately not playing up to his potential.  he is making great moves only to miss easy inside shots.  he is shooting to many fade aways and he is not getting enough rebounds for how good of an athlete he is.  what i noticed about al is i don't think he can jump very high because he rarely gets dunks and he goes for lay ups and outside shots often.  he is either hitting everything or struggling.  i want him to be more solid and he doesnt need to lead our team in scoring he just needs to put about like 18 a night or so on a consistant basis.  hit some open jumpers.  get out on the break and finish inside.  he can make moves occasinonly and create his own.  jackson just needs to keep defending and getting steals as well as limit threes and keep creating for others as well as driving.

Jax
has never been a good shooter.  In fact he has been a downright bad shooter over the years

Al Harrinton has always had a flawed game as well

The Pacers aren't complete idiots.  There is a reason they moved their problems for ours

Anyway this is the NBA.  You need a superstar and then a few guys who are soild to Allstar.  The rest takes care of itself usually

The Warriors don't have that guy and thats why they suck

Is it possible that in a blockbuster trade,
neither side wins?  That's what it feels like to me.  Indy is starting to struggle now.  If you track Dunleavy and Murphy, their stats aren't exactly better than their career averages.  If you read some of the pacers blogs,  there are some pacers that are watching W's games and they are pretty much saying the same thing about Jax and Al that we're saying about Murphy and Dunleavy.  I mean that Jax and Al haven't really changed.

Fans are always optimistic when big trades go down.  But I'm starting to realize that in this trade, neither side really won in terms of the player quality.  We went from 2 passive slow player that didn't want to take shots to 2 aggressive fast players that only want to take shots.

At least in the end, even if it doesn't pan out, we got rid of 2 horrible horrible contracts and cap space at the very least.  Prove me wrong Al and Jax...PROVE US ALL WRONG PLEASE...

yes Pacers
aren't dumb

The trade was made for both teams to get rid of problems

by Zig on Feb 26, 2007 11:31 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

swapping problems.
The two teams swapped problems.  The Warriors had the problem of two long term overpaid guys who didn't have the talent that Mullin thought they did when he signed them to long term deals and were never going to live up to expectations.  The Pacers had two guys who didn't come to play consistently, who NEVER showed any ability to elevate their team's results above what it was in their absence and were also overpaid for rather pedestrian on-court results.  They were marginally less overpaid, but came with some bigger locker-room and off court baggage.

We fooled ourselves into thinking that the "athletic"  guys would be "better fits" (strangely, Harrington's athleticism seems not to extend to an ability to jump high enough to convert on layups) with our "uptempo" style.  Indy will find that they've got a defensive sieve in Murphy and an unspectacular guy who is mediocre at 4 positions on the court in Dunleavy.  Of the latter, the best thing about him is that he makes dreadfully few mistakes, but isn't particularly dependable if you need actual production.

We got minor relief in terms of salary, but it's wrong to call it "cap space" at this point.  We're still over the cap and will continue to be so for a while.  It may make it easier to keep Biedrins and Ellis without suffering from the luxury tax, but it doesn't equate to cap space to get other players.  I don't mean to diminish this.  It could prove valuable, but it's still something down the line that relies on good decisions in the future to show any value.

I've watched most of the games since the trade
and i'd rather take jackson and harrington anyday.

I wonder how you could miss dunleavy over jackson.

  1. Dunleavy can't shoot either.  Jackson hasn't been shooting well for the last few games (but has been an ok shooter for his CAREER)
  2. Jackson is a much smarter player. Sure Dunleavy can take the occasional charge.  But Jackson has veteran savvy that none of the other dubs have.  He makes points out of nothing, draws fouls, and has made plenty of nifty passes (if only he could get his J back).
  3. Jackson is a good defender. Dunleavy is...er....a good team defender and if you're team plays terrible defense (like the Dubs) then you're not much of a defender either.
  4. Jackson is a DUB. 'Nuff said.

JAX
has been a terrible shooter for his career.  Look it up.

I don't think JAX is a smarter player than Dunleavy either.  It think Dunleavys limitations were mostly physical

I differ when you say that JAX is a good defender.  I think you might call him adequate and more athletic than Dunleavy but not fundementally sound.  He is out of postion a lot and has his head turned

All is all I still think he is an upgrade because for a few reasons but lets not get crazy here.

IMHO
i doubt that dunleavy keep this team up and post 25+ while jrich and baron were out and monta wasn't really at 100%. yes he has a poor shot selection but so did dunleavy. i think at time sjax is trying to hard to be the "star" of the team.

The only comparisons I see
or hear for that matter, are that Jim Barnett loves Stephen Jax right now.

He can't say enough about his game on every telecast, never going too much out on the negative end besides - That was a bad pass by Jackson.

It was kind of the same thing he did with Dunleavy, although he wasn't completely lost and gave Dunleavy the required criticisms towards the end of his tenure on the Warriors, isn't it?

Although Jax is crazy like Spreewell.
Remember his yelling right after the halftime buzzer sounded during a game recently?

"I'll say what I wanna say!"

That same game he had the chance to win it at the buzzer but clanked a jumper short.

I don't want Dunleavy back though, sorry.

I've heard him criticize
JAx's defense especially agianst Mike Miller the other night

On offense you are right he is effusive in his praise.  He loves his game

this was Zorgon's doing
he proposed this idea to me after the loss, and i went off on him and called him a racist ha ha ha.... it was just THAT dumb of a comment, i'm sur ehe's not a racist, but he must have rallied on the AIM to gather support and found someone willing to be crucified for it... sorry buddy, refer back to our coach

"I don't care if we had to lose every game of the season, this trade was great for our future"

(forgot where he said it or the exact wording).

This early after the trade?
My only comments to the writer of this blog is that it's still early.  The trade just went down not too long ago and to expect the team to build chemistry overnight is unfair and impossible.  Due to the fact that the warriors have no true PG b/c Baron is out, it is forcing players to do things they are not used to doing.  Ellis handling the ball, Jackson handling the ball, everyone having to make up for the BD numbers they have been missing on assists, points, rebounds, steals, basically everything.

Bottom line is... when the warriors played the pacers and dunleavy murphy, and ike did more damage to the pacers than to us, that was more than enough to win me over for this trade.  It is still very frustrating to watch the games now, knowing the potential the GSW have, but it will take time for them to become the team they should be.

by david240z on Feb 27, 2007 7:40 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

It was a good trade
We got rid of two downward spiraling players that will never be better only worse: for two underachievers and a slow as european guy that jack up shots and don't play defense and make stupid mistakes miss layups, but atleast we cleared some cap space, and there's the definite possibilty that we could trade all 3 of the crappy dudes in the offseason (Harrison, YasaImsoslowivich, and Jackson, Powell actually has a pretty decent upside in my mind and I still don't know why Nellie doesn't put him in with biedrins at the PF spot and take that schmuch Al out, I mean we could always use the rebounding and size, not to mention he doesn't force shots.

by warriorsfiend on Feb 28, 2007 3:57 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

YasImsoslowivich!
Love it. I agree with all your points; the only caveat I would add is that if do want to trade Harrington this offseason -- and that seems to be the growing sentiment on GSoM -- it sort of behooves us to drive up his value by giving him lots of PT, right? We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that there's some GM out there who's dumb enough to be impressed by the 18-20 PPG and willing to ignore the mediocre rebounding, passing, and defense.

I could see him fitting on a team that already has a bruiser in the middle and needs a little firepower on the wing. Orlando might work ... Harrington+POB in a sign-and-trade deal for Darko?
