pietrus for magloire?

First of all, this is NOT some established rumor.  So all of you technical peeps that priss WE NEED TO HAVE RULES ON THIS WEBSITE ABOUT POSTING RUMORS! This is pure speculation that also makes sense.  Also, GSOMers, I'm not hating on anybody.  Im just playin around. #1 thing here is, lets go warriors.

Now that I'm finished talking to the warrior girls, I want to address the topic.  The company line coming from Mullin, Nellie, and the media(also if you just watch a game you can tell) is that the warriors are not done dealing.  They would like to make another trade before the deadline.  The most obvious need for the warriors, which is a need weve had for years, is to get a low post presence.  Offense, but more importantly, is defense and rebounding.  We need a beast bruiser inside that can also run.  Andris cannot be responsible for all the rebounds, and I will not be able to stand it if Anderson Varaejo and his hair dominate us inside.  We need an enforcer, intimidator-someone to protect the glass.

Unfortunately, that could be hella hard to get.

Not Looking To Deal?
"Feb 2 - Don't expect a trade before the Feb. 22 deadline. If it happens, it will probably involve Jamaal Magloire. But the Trail Blazers aren't likely to take a veteran in return and for sure, not one with a contract that has many years remaining." espn.com

So, we've been rumored for a season or two as a suitor for jamal magloire. we have a glut of wingmen.  Pietrus, altho played well tonight, is the most expendable, and since on the cheap, prolly the most desired player for portland.  Hes not a veteran and does not have a big contract.

Raises the questions:  Would you want Magloire?  Would you want him for Pietrus? Would he fit in with Don Nelsons system?  Would Portland do it? Did I follow the rules in posting a rumor?  Is everyone emotionally prepared if we dont make the playoffs?

dude
don't count on it, the trade would suck.

why
would the trade suck? everyone is posting without giving any reasoning

I'm with JRizzle
It's not like Magloire (French for "My Glory") makes me want to do cartwheels or anything, but seriously, this is a no-brainer. In fact, my friend and I were just discussing this exact deal. Pietrus is completely expendable right now, and nigh-worthless as soon as JRich comes back. Magloire immediately fills our single biggest need: an experienced NBA big who can block shots, board, and take a little pressure off Cool Beans in the middle. He's also Baron's good buddy, IIRC. Christ, as recently as last year, Ws fans were salivating over the idea of getting this guy ... now we aren't willing to give up le 3-point-chucking, turnover-prone Frenchman with the basketball IQ of 37.2 for him?

The only sane reason not to like this trade is if you've completely given up on the playoffs this year and would prefer that we tank and throw our hats in the Oden/Durant sweepstakes. I'd sympathize with that philosophy if we hadn't already won too many games to have a realistic shot at one of the big two. (For a pretty funny and well-argued defense of TANKING, check the Sportsguy's most recent column). As it stands, you'd have to be nuts not to like this deal.

And YES, I know this isn't a "REAL" rumor, but JRizzle has made that amply clear, and also clearly expressed why it might make sense for both teams. So cut the guy little slack.

reasons...
a) Pietrus is young, Magloire is not.
b) Pietrus fits Nellie-ball, Magloire is not
c) Pietrus is our best rebounding guard
d) We could get a lot better player in return if we were serious about trading him.

magloire is young
i think jamal is still only 28 or 29, thats still pretty young

by badnamedwarriorfan on Feb 2, 2007 10:26 PM PST reply actions

i'm all for trading pietrus
i just think we can get better for him than magloire. he's only had one real good year and has regressed since leaving new orleans. there's gotta be a reason he's not even playing 20 minutes on a bad blazer team

by AJC3317 on Feb 2, 2007 10:28 PM PST reply actions

this wouldnt even work
pietrus makes 2.5 million, magloire makes over 8.

Length of Contract
How many years are left on Magloire's contract?  If it's more than two then I wouldn't make the deal.  I don't believe Magloire is a lock to put us into the playoffs this season but I'd do the deal if he doesn't have a long term contract that will hinder us re-signing Ellis/Biedrins in the future.  Hopefully there are other options at the 4/5 positions as the deadline approaches.

petrius the new dumbleavy???
personally, i think we can get more the magloire because his expiring contract. cause id rather have jax or rich on a fastbreak any day or pushing the ball up the court besides has anyone seen how nervous petrius gets when he's in control??? anyways... point being we should be able to get alot more then a big body...  love the rumor though

pietrus has no value
ok, he doesnt have NO value, but all you guys who think pietrus has good value are completely wrong.  you have watched him all year, what exactly would be attractive to another nba team? his ability to hit a 3 pt shot.......hes a good rebounder

.........

hes not even that lockdown defender that he was supposed to be.  he continuously gets owned. see:gerald wallace

his contract is ok......expiring yes, but at what 2 million?

what exactly do u think we are going to get for this guy

by jrizzle on Feb 3, 2007 10:13 AM PST reply actions

cmon dude
if Dundun had value, of course Pietrus has value. He's still young, remember. He's still got the p-word (potential)

re trading MP for a big
for what it's worth I'd
rather try for Dale Davis (Det)

by hardcore on Feb 3, 2007 10:41 AM PST reply actions

good point on dumbleavy
if mike friggin dunleavy can be traded, i suppose there is hope for pietrus. I just would not expect a lot.  A couple of years ago maybe, he got mad buzz cuz word was out that Jerry West really wanted to draft him and this euro jordan stuff.  but hes got heart and plays hard

by jrizzle on Feb 3, 2007 11:31 AM PST reply actions

but based on how the rest of the league values
big guys, pietrus' value when converted in that sense is marginal. his $2.5 mill salary limits the options one would have in trading him as well. if we want to trade him, we probably should wait till the pacer players are eligible to be packaged. the only other way is a package w/ either of our 3 biggest contracts - bd, jr, or.....foyle!

How about
MP2 for Eddie Griffin

Their salaries are pretti similar and Eddies a great shot blocker who can run the floor and shoot the 3. However he does have some attitude problems.. =S
