Baron Game Time Decision

Baron may not play tonight. He is a game time decision vs. the Indiana Pacers. This is what Fitz just said on his radio show.

Are chances will really suck if Baron doesnt play tonight.

So will Dunleavy go for 40 tonight. Were great at making crappy players look good.

They also still don't know yet if Murphy will play, but things are not looking good.

Poll
Do we have a chance without Baron?
Yes. He's not all that.

No. He's our leader and our team right now.

According to ESPNNEWS
Jermaine O'neal is doubtful for tonight's game with a bruised knee. Even if Baron doesn't play we still have a chance.

According to CBS sportsline
http://www.sportsline.com/nba/injuries

Pacers:
Keith McLeod, Abdominal - Questionable
Troy Murphy, Nose - Probable
Jermaine O'Neal, Knee - Doubtful

Warriors:
Baron Davis, Leg - Questionable

My prediction is that Murphy returns as the Phantom of The Fieldhouse, brings his A-game, and drops 15/15 on us.

Honestly
WTF? What is it now? Knee? Ankle? Hamstring? Beard? It's a good thing I've already given up on this season, otherwise I'd be pretty upset.

Does anyone here actually think Baron will be 100% healthy -- like, ever? This has been going on his whole career and isn't the type of thing that generally goes away magically.

To reiterate: With all due respect to Baron and his sometimes-fabulous game, this team is going nowhere with an injury-prone, overweight point guard who can't shoot free throws or 3-pointers to save his life. This is our franchise player? Screw it, I say bite the bullet and dump him right now, while he still has some perceived value. Alternately, tell him to rest his l'il ouchie for the rest of the frigging season.

You know, I was saying earlier that it was too late to tank the season, but it really isn't. Looking at the standings, there are really only three teams -- Boston, Philly, Memphis -- who are out of reach if we really start stringing together some losses. We still have plenty of loseable road games; plus now that we're through with little stretch of crappy opponents (hah!) the schedule starts to get tougher.

What say we make some variant of that crazy Orlando/Cha deal, only with Baron and Pietrus instead of Richardson? The Magic seem like a good fit for Baron. They're an all-star guard away from being a finals contender in the East. We get Brevin, Darko, and Redick in return. Let them keep Vazquez. Cripes, let them keep Redick, too. I don't really care at this point. Just keep Monta and Biedrins and blow the rest up.

this team is going nowhere with an injury-prone,
" overweight point guard who can't shoot free throws or 3-pointers to save his life"

You forget that Baron has been carrying this team on his back all season. That's too big a load for one player. If the rest of the guys would step up and take some of the load then Baron would not be hurting.
The way I see it Baron is the best point guard in the west not named Nash or Iverson so we are lucky to have him. If Baron had the Suns backing him up he'd be in first place and if Nash was a warrior he'd be in 9th cause it's a team game.
Guys get hurt, it's a fact of sports, look at Monta tonight, is he a slacker too?

I never said "slacker"
I said "injury-prone." Big difference. I'd buy your agument about "carrying the team" more if Baron hadn't been injury-prone throughout his career. No value judgment intended, it's just the way it is. And the type of injuries he always seems to get -- knees, hammies, etc. -- are likely only to get worse as he ages.

As for his performance when healthy: What's great about that old "if Baron (or player X) were on Phoenix, they'd be just as good" line is that since it's pure hypothesis, it's impossible to dispute. Feel free to ignore the fact that Nash shoots 52% from the field to Baron's 42%, and 88% from the line to Baron's 72% -- and yeah, the fact that Nash is working on his third straight MVP while Baron can't even make the all-star team.

Just for fun ... Factoring in the injury/weight concerns, here are some other players I'd rather have as our starting PG than Baron:

  • Monta Ellis (yeah, I know he's not close to Baron yet, but his upside is much higher)
  • Gilbert Arenas
  • Chris Paul
  • Deron Williams
  • Mo Williams
  • Raymond Felton
  • Kirk Hinrich
  • Tony Parker (maybe not as "dominant" as Baron, but much more efficient)
  • Brandon Roy (not a "true" point, but I'd still take him over Baron)
  • Leandro Barbosa
Feel free to dispute any of these -- I admit that some of them are pretty questionable.

What I find much harder to question is the simple fact that we are going nowhere with Baron Davis as our franchise player. Where exactly do you think he's capable of taking us? To a .500 record, if somehow, by stroke of luck, he manages to stay healthy over the course of a season? Is that really your goal?

i dunno
we thought we had a chance against a LeBron-less Cavs team.  We also got smoked by the Hawks(!?), barely beat a crappy Sixers team, and lost to the NCAA's Bobcats.
