OPEN THREAD: Game # 50 - Warriors @ Twolves

Warriors (W-L): 23-26
Twolves (W-L): 22-26
Time: 5:00PM PST tip off
TV: FSN Bay Area
Radio: KNBR 1050

What's this? A chance to salvage this road trip with a win? A win tonight gets the Warriors to .500 on the road trip and 1.5 games in front of the Twolves for the 9th spot in the West. A loss puts us at 2-4 on the trip and back in the 10th spot. Sounds easy enough...

Kevin Garnett is a beast. I consider him to be a top 5 player, maybe #2 behind Kobe. I know his teams haven't made the playoffs all the time nor have they done well when he gets there, but he's one of the most talented big men around that can do everything for you. When I say everything, I mean everything. Score in the post, score from the perimeter, rebound, block shots, steal the ball, play excellent defense, pass the ball, shall I go on? Anyways, he's scary and I'm not sure how the Warriors will guard him and prevent him from getting 40 points and 20 boards.

The Warriors are coming off a big win in Indy and should be pumped for this game the problem is they have nobody to run the point. Monta is doubtful, Baron is questionable, and Sarunas is garbage. Nellie will have to be creative tonight especially if the Twolves bring some pressure. It could get ugly with lots of turnovers. Let's pray someone steps up.

Vegas Odds: Even (12:48p)
EDIT: ESPN's line is screwy and says Even. So instead, I'm going with Wagerline's +8.5 (2:20p)

GSoM Prediction:

  • Warriors by 3
  • KG is traded to the Warriors at halftime, puts on a Warriors jersey, and proceeds to tear up his former squad.
  • I wake up from my KG dream.

I just got a feeling. It's gonna be ugly, but I think they'll pull it off.

Predictions

  • KG gets a triple-double.
  • Andris Biedrins fouls out
  • We see some bizare rotations by Nellie to fill the PG spot.
  • It's COLD AS ANTARCTICA in Minnesnowta.

Predictions
KG a triple double by HALFTIME?
Where have you gone Jud Buechler?

by Chris Gatling on Feb 7, 2007 6:21 PM PST up reply actions

you make him
sound like he's the mike dunleavy of superstars. i'm not a kg fan, but he's top 10 though.

hopefully, t-wolves dont run a press. i dont expect us to win this one w/o monta, but if we can keep the game close and limit our turnovers, you never know.

by the evil monkey on Feb 7, 2007 1:18 PM PST reply actions

KG is the ultimate
complimentary player. He would make the perfect Scottie Pippen to someone's Jordan. The problem is, everyone expects him to be Jordan when hes more like Scottie. It's okay KG, I understand.

by ZombieWarrior on Feb 7, 2007 4:34 PM PST up reply actions

exactly.
that's why i dont think he's a top 5 player.
he's really the top #2 player in the league.
he'd be perfect on a team full of good players, bulls, pistons, clippers who have game finishers (ben gordon, chauncey billups, sam cassell respectively). or if paired w/ a mcgrady or kobe type.

by the evil monkey on Feb 7, 2007 5:03 PM PST up reply actions

Warriors pull it out
The Warriors finally realize that they are having a losing season. This might be the beginning of a strong push to make that 8th spot...or not. Let's hope we win.

Warriors Win!
I would have predicted a Loss ... but now since we have Harrington and Jackson, I believe we can win.

Go Warriors!
First off, Fantasy Junkie, I don't know who your bookie is but I wouldn't want to bet with him. Baron is questionable and Monta is doubtful making the Warriors 8.5 point underdogs. The Warriors aren't a road team. But this is the NBA and this game is winnable for the Warriors. Either way, take the points!!

by j richmark on Feb 7, 2007 1:25 PM PST reply actions

ESPN is my bookie
I've been using the espn line but apparently it's way off: ESPN Preview

Then I go to Wagerline and the line is +8.5, I'll be changing that in the preview.

Bet on this
Prediction:
SJax and Ricky Davis battle to determine who is crazier.  Gun duel at center court. action jackson takes out davis and mark madsen, but then gets pinned by Jesse Ventura.

warriors in a close one
I think the warriors will pull this one out. Minny is slumping, and the dubs are ridin high after the other night. I say Harrington has a huge night, and Stephen Jackson puts up decent numbers. Roony and Azubuike will man the point.

warriors by 7 pts
it'll be fugly as hell with the score being in the 80s. The Warriors will actually focus on defense tonight. Here are my other predictions:

Foyle - 22 minutes, 2 fumbles, 2 pts, 5 RBs, 1 block

Bukake - 17 pts, 4 assts, 7 rebounds

Harrington - 24 pts, 8 rebounds

by MANUTEs BOLs on Feb 7, 2007 2:41 PM PST reply actions

Today's GSoM Japanese lesson
Manute, if you insist on calling him "Bukkake," do remember to double the "K." It actually indicates a slight difference in pronunciation -- a short pause right after the "Bu."

Also, in Japanese, the word has a perfectly non-perverse connotation. Basically it translates as something like "the works" or "the whole shebang." At my local Soba restaurant, for example, they serve "Bukkake Soba" ...

OK, stop snickering, kids. I'm sure I have no idea what the other meaning could be. :-O

C'mon Warriors, give 'em the ol' "Bukkake"!

by Sleepy Freud on Feb 7, 2007 3:00 PM PST up reply actions

ha LOL!
the works..the whole sheebang. Are you sure that's the japanese meaning...LOL.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

by OaktownFunk on Feb 7, 2007 4:06 PM PST up reply actions

From wikipedia
Bukkake is the noun form of the Japanese verb bukkakeru, to dash [water]), and means simply "splash" or "dash." The word bukkake is often used in Japanese to describe pouring out water (or other liquids) with sufficient momentum to cause splashing or spilling. Indeed, bukkake is used to describe a type of dish where the toppings are poured on top of noodles, as in bukkake-udon and bukkake-soba

... So let's hope Kelenna makes a big, um, splash tonight!

by Sleepy Freud on Feb 7, 2007 4:12 PM PST up reply actions

More like
Foyle- 22 Minutes, 14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, assist, 4 Turnovers.

Hey, I can dream.

by Zorgon on Feb 7, 2007 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

Sank you very mawsh
for this lesson.

Seriously tho, is Soba a Japanese restaurant? If so, where is it located? Do you serve soft-shell crabs? I love those things although my arteries don't. I also love unagi rolls.

by MANUTEs BOLs on Feb 7, 2007 3:18 PM PST reply actions

Soba = thin, buckwheat noodles
Usually served in soup with various toppings (tempura, chicken, veggies, bukkake...) though sometimes served cold on a wooden tray with the toppings on the side.

Sorry to say, my "local" restaurant's on the other side of the Pacific, in Tokyo. But there are a bunch of good places for Soba in the Bay Area: Ochame on 4th street in Berkeley is good, if a little upscale; and in SF, I used to get soba at Mifune in Japan Center (Sutter/Fillmore) before movies.

For unagi rolls: there are a zillion and a half good sushi places, obviously. Since this is kind of an East Bay site, I'll recommend Ta-ke Sushi near Lake Merritt: good prices, fresh fish, generous portions. Yoshi's at Jack London square is good too, though I kind of miss the old rickety place on Claremont near College.

On soft shell crabs: I'm no expert, but that place Crustacean on Fillmore was pretty great. Order it with the garlic noodles.

Back on the Azubuike: If he sticks with the team, we will probably have to find a more suitable nickname for him. Kabuki is too obvious, and Bukkake maybe just a bit too racy for a family site...

by Sleepy Freud on Feb 7, 2007 3:53 PM PST up reply actions

you said

Usually served in soup with various toppings (tempura, chicken, veggies, bukkake...) though sometimes

I certainly hope "it's" not what I have in mind that is put in the soup.

Back to Kelenna, yes, I agree I need to do some cleaning as this is a PG13 - err, a PG site. So how about simply KAzi or KAzu?

by MANUTEs BOLs on Feb 7, 2007 4:07 PM PST up reply actions

mmmmm....
Sleepy Freud, i love the spots in Japantown.  My favorite is the spot with the red walls and the deep brown wood grain on the inside.  I don't know what the place is called, but the UDON broth there is BOMB (the noodle texture is excellent too)!  Lunch special include a large bowl of udon with a smaller bowl of sushi rice topped off with sashimi ALL for 7 bucks.

I will def. check out those other spots you just mentioned though whenever i get back to Northern Cali.

don't know if you guys know about this but Keith Mcleod was involved in a bar altercation in Indiana with Tinsley and Daniels. So apparently it's not the players that are thugs. Not that I really care, I'm just tired of creeps coming in here and citing their 6-3 record v. crappy teams as evidence that they "won the trade."

THE BIG 3...
  1. Lack of free-throw attempts
  2. Too many three-point attempts
  3. Lack of rebounding
Once again the same old line to another loss.  The W's free-throw attempts and three-point attempts were exactly opposite to the Twolves line.

W's 16 free-throw attempts to the Twovles 26, and W's 26 three-point attempts to the Twolves 16.  Although a good % from the free-throw line, once again they took more 3's than free-throws or even attempting to get to the line.  They shoot only 23% from the three-point line.  If you reverse that attempt line to 16, it would put their % to 38, which isn't great, but probably would have meant they would get to the line more or take a high percentage shot!

And as for rebounding...what more can we say?!  The W's were almost out-rebounded by 20 boards!  20 BOARDS!!!  KG or no KG, that's inexcuseable!  We still need another BIG MAN to pull down more boards.  I'm sure it doesn't help when you heave a bunch of 3's and miss, and the Twolves run it down first and get 23 fastbreak points to the W's 19, which is usually the opposite in most games!

The W's definitely have that "inside" presence, outscoring opponents INSIDE THE PAINT more often now, but it seems that we're getting run up and down the court!  Hmmm...must be that thing they call DEFENSE that we're lacking!

The W's are still not at full strength, especially w/o their floor leader Baron out there, but the clock is ticking and we definitely need to stop losing to teams that could ultimately take our spot in the playoffs!

WATCH OUT FOR THE FEB. 22 TRADE DEADLINE!!!  Who knows who else we can get!

We picked up a game on New Orleans too? Cool!!! Now they're only 1/2 game behind us!

The race for the third worst record

Philadelphia 17-33
Seattle 18-31
Milwaukee 19-30
Atlanta 18-30
Charlotte 18-31
Portland 20-30
Sacramento 20-26
New York 22-28
New Orleans 22-27
GS 23-27
New Jersey 23-27

With Sacramento, NY, New Orleans, and Atlanta all playing better basketball than us, we could start to move up that list quickly...
