OPEN THREAD GAME #51 - BULLS AT WARRIORS

Warriors (W-L): 23-27
Bulls (W-L): 28-22
Time:
7:30 PM PST tip off
TV: ESPN
Radio: KNBR 1050

The pattern is becoming irritatingly predictable.  W-L-W-L-W-L...so we can make an educated guess based on the Warriors recent play that today will be a WIN!  In a related note, it is a little frightening to know that the last time the Warriors put together back to back wins (before their pair January 24th then January 27th) was a full month prior--a span of eleven games which featured two three-game losing streaks.  Lets hope  we can gain some ground as we play four of our next five at home.

Luckily the Bulls are just as bad as the Warriors are on the road (8-16 to be exact).  Apparently the Bulls are also cursed in the Oracle Arena; the last time the Bulls won in Oakland was when Jordan was still around (after his first retirement that is...). Although Baron and Monta are listed day-to-day, reports show that they will suit up, though maybe only for some spot duty.

There have been questions about the compatibility of the current Warriors squad.  These compatibility issues, I think, also include the countless injuries the Warriors squad has sustained over the course of the season.  Do you think it is fair to excuse some of the Warriors current defensive and/or offensive deficiences to a lack of time spent together on the court?  Does the fact that the Warriors have used twenty seven different starting fives this season suggest that maybe they just aren't at full strength?  Or would a good coach able to plug folks in and out with as minimal amount of speed bumps (unlike the craters for the Warriors) along the way?

Vegas Odds: Even (according to ESPN.com @ 4:26 EST)

GSoM Prediction:

  • Warriors by 7
  • Hinrich is no match for Davis, who comes back and drops 20 points and 12 assists on a bum knee
  • Foyle plays 20 minutes and the crowd salutes Foyle's patriotism in the pre-game warm-ups

Make sure to drop your vote for who you think will win in the Comments. If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

DON'T BREAK MY HEART WARRIORS, NOT BEFORE V-DAY!!!

UPDATE 2:

We got this! At home in the Bay. It's going to make my Friday night.  The Dubs are going to torch the Bulls from downtown. Let's show the world how we do it on National TV. My biggest fear is the Warriors are going to get dominated on the glass, but hopefully they can compensate for that tonight with some hot shooting.

Here's one vote for Adonal for tonight's Warrior Wonder!

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 9, 2007 1:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Baron's doubtful
i heard on KNBR that Baron's in LA meeting with a doctor because of swelling on his knee. so i think he's doubtful for 2nite. they need this win so hopefully they can pull one out.

by mikeyfl1p on Feb 9, 2007 2:29 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Baron
He was in LA yesterday.  Baron goes to LA all the time on off-days, mostly because of the "family problems" that he has been having lately.  I think he will play 30 minutes or so.  It will be one of those game time decisions.

Dubs by 3
Dubs start out very cold, finish strong before the end of the first half. Start out strong in the third quarter, take the lead at the start of the 4th qtr. Scoring drought in the early goings of the 4th, Bulls take 12 point lead, Dubs charge back in waning moments and win by 3.

Just another typical Dubs home game.

Show the Bulls fans how we do it in the Bay
http://www.blogabull.com/story/2007/2/9/121749/9766
Blogging with the Enemy: Golden State of Mind.  Unlike certain other basketball blogs (not going to name names) out there, it appears people actually visit the site and make comments (I'm sure not nearly as deep and thoughtful as ours).

-- by Colossus

And by the way GSoM gets triple the number of unique visitors and double the amount of hits as SBNation Bulls blog Blog a Bull.

Let's show them our "deep and thoughtful" comments. Folks in the Bay are smarter than the people in the midwest!

TONIGHT.

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 9, 2007 2:40 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

note to readers
as a regular over at Blogabull, I ask you not to take any of Colossus' comments as an example of being "deep and thoughtful."  As the big cheese over at blogabull, Matt, says, Colossus is much maligned.

Predictions of little merit:

Tyrus Thomas will not comically miss a dunk two nights in a row.

Kirk Hinrich will hold Baron Davis below his season averages, just like he always does to DWade.

Ben Gordon will absolutely GO OFF tonight after his poor performance last night.

I'll wish at least once that I was in San Fran instead of this 10 degree weather here in the land of milk and honey.

(oh, and, the Bulls will win by 5).

normally
I would say that the Warriors were gonna lose, but being that they just lost yesterday, it almost guaruntees a win. its fate or destiny... or both?

by dj fuzzylogic on Feb 9, 2007 5:32 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I'll see your win-lose-win-lose pattern
and raise you this:

11/9/05  Bulls Win
11/14/05 Warriors Win

That means Warriors lose right? Or is this a sign of the apocalypse?

by GWKD on Feb 9, 2007 5:51 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Just wondering
You do know the Warriors play in Oakland and not SF. I was just wondering if people really don't know what city they actually play in because of their name.

by Athletix Man on Feb 9, 2007 7:23 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I knew
but didn't really care.  I'd much rather be 10 degree weather than in Oakland (except for the GSW-Chi game)

congrats on the big win.

its a shame
that ideological discourse continually limits our understanding of the wide scope of NBA hoopts, which assumes west coasts teams such as GSW in an automatic inferior position to teams on the east coast.  i believe that this discourse is related to larger ideological formation that the true national character is located on the east coast, which privileges a linear approach to history, obviously a fault of enlightenment thinking.

smart enough?

by dj fuzzylogic on Feb 9, 2007 2:46 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Heavy stuff man! The only word I understood in that whole thing was "hoopts"

be watched over the internet. (http://www.myp2p.eu/NBA.htm)

Great for us European fans, second game in a few weeks we can watch. Although it'll start at 4.30 a.m. here ;)

Prediction:
Warriors by 8

  • Ben Wallace going for 15/20
  • Al Harrington with 34 pts
  • Sarunas with another good game

my predictions
the announcers say that the pacers got the best of the trade (which may be true at this moment)
the refs make some more horrible offensive foul calls that the announcers say are good calls

by AJC3317 on Feb 9, 2007 6:02 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

If Monta is starting...
and his knee is back to 100%, there is no way El Capt Kirk will be able to keep up with him. But if Monta's knee is still bum and Baron isnt 100%, its going to get ugly. the Bulls are a pretty good defensive team but I think we have enough athletic guards and swingmen to put a lid on Ben Gordon. I see mismatch in the frontcourt with Al and Andris. LETS GO WARRIORS!!!

wtf
we have 2 or 3 points this quarter

by djchuckdeez on Feb 9, 2007 9:05 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Huh?
Did Benny Wallace just flop on Monta when he was driving? What the..

That's just awful or did I see it wrong?

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 9, 2007 9:06 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

he did flop
and with the way the rules are, why would he not? it's more effective than trying to block the shot, where he could get called for a foul or he might block it out of bounds or something

by gsw4life on Feb 9, 2007 9:07 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

UGH
is this how bad the warriors look w.out Baron all the time?

Ugly 3rd quarter
Man, 4 Warrior points to 19 Bull points?

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 9, 2007 9:11 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

No Baron =
No ball movement.

I have to say I'm disapointed with Sarunas. I thought he could step up and be a viable backup PG.

Don't settle for jumpers
Powell then Harrington then Barnes

This is how to get back in the game.

B. Davis      DNP - Bruised Left Knee
J. Richardson     DNP - Coach's Decision
Z. Cabarkapa     DNP - Coach's Decision
P. O'Bryant     DNP - Coach's Decision

At least Baron's was right. It's Nellie fault for not letting two players in suits and one player playing in a different league right now, for not playing tonight.

Just have to say
Powell and Azubuike need more minutes; they are our energy players, especially on the defensive end.

Also
someone needs to make note of that lineup that brought us back into the game, preferably Nellie.

DUUUDE
God, that win was amazing.

Powell should get more minutes if he plays like that.

props to the second line
The way the third quarter ended (Jax missed FT, outlet to Hinrich for the and-one)  it was really a pleasure to see them come out with some energy in the fourth.  Maybe the bulls thought they had it in the bag and were in cruise control, but those shots by Jasecevidfnsofdnas, Azibuke and Barnes to start the fourth were just huge.  The second line really brought us back in the game.

Also, I thought we were in big trouble when Biedrins  and Harrington fouled out, but Powell came up huge with his hustle and Monta's elbow jumper was just C.L.U.T.C.H.

How did Gordon miss so badly?

It seems to me
That the Warriors are about 75% gelled as a team now.  They need to work Richardson in and get healthy, but the second line looked tighter than previously.  They knew each other better and were able to be cohesive against the Bulls.  That was a great sign.

The playoffs are very possible at this point.  We'll see.  But I do see reasons to be optomistic now.  The law of averages favors us in terms of injuries.  GS has had major stars injured most of the season, and other teams haven't.  Now a few stars miss a week or two and the W's could make a move.

With Nash out, Phx struggled.

If the injuries average out more league wide, the W's could gain ground if they get healthy and Richardson is putting in 18 a night for them.

but
houston hasnt had both mcgrady and yao for stretches.

memphis, who has made the playoffs the last 2 or 3 yrs was missing gasol.

new orleans has had paul, peja, & west hurt.

denver didnt have melo & jr for 10-15 games, though this was a suspension.

not to mention teams in the east like redd, pierce, jefferson, krstic, shaq, & wade.

w/ the w's they have so many of the same type of player that if one of them goes down, another can step in and fill their place. only guy we can't afford to lose is probably biedrins.
