4 Losses, Powell/Azubuike, Dris' Fouls, Play Calling...

4 Losses. Dang Frustrating. Trying to keep it somewhat positive and so here are just some thoughts.

Interesting Five:
Biedrins
Powell*
JRich
Azubuike*
Monta

Just my opinion... based on consistency, mental toughness, shot selection (reducing ill-timed threes), shooting percentage, playing with heart/intensity. I like how Azubuike attacks the basket and plays smart. I think between MP2, Barnes, and Azubuike, Azubuike deserves the most to be a Warrior next year. They better not overpay to keep MP2 and/or Barnes. In this five, Powell, JRich, Azubuike, Monta can all hit midrange jumpers well. Dris, Powell, JRich are maybe our three best rebounders, although Foyle can rebound pretty well. I'm not saying Powell and Azubuike should be starters, but they deserve good playing time.

Regarding Dris' fouls, I think only maybe half of them are fouls. Its getting ridiculous, and I'm surprised that he or coach are not saying anything or getting some technicals. They need to send some tapes to the league. Dris will put his hands straight up and not jump, and still be called for the foul.

Regarding the play calling. It seems like nearly every half court set starts with the center (Dris, Foyle, Powell) getting the ball passed to him at the top of the key. Why? Anyone else notice this? Its not a pick and roll. Its often passing it back to who gave it, or to the other person on the perimeter wing. I'm guessing the purpose is to take the defending center away from the basket, but Dris/Foyle are not gonna drive or shoot from that far out. Its too repetitive and not doing much good.

Any thoughts?

I won't be surprised if Don Nelson is not on KNBR tomorrow morning.

Bookie > 90% of the GSW
Bookie is my favorite new player on the GSW this year.  I wrote in a post the other night hoping Bookie to get more minutes and he got them, and he delivered.  They need to ditch MP IMHO b/c he is more of a liability than anything.  He's been on the warriors for awhile now, and I haven't seen a big improvement in his game.  Despite his athleticism, he still travels constantly, makes bad decisions, is sketchy and inconsistent with defense and doesn't know how to stay out of foul trouble.

They showed the improvements for Ellis and Biedrins tonight on FSN bay area and they were pretty impressive.  When is the last time they showed any improvements for MP?  I feel that if they allow him to go, it will free up time for bookie, as well as give opportunity to let another team suffer him for a few seasons.  If the warriors are to look to the future, they need to realize that MP is not part of it.  Its Ellis, Biedrins, and Bookie.  The other vets will be there for years to come, but if you want to build a good team, start with seedlings and let them grow.

Well said
They need to keep Monta, Dris, and Azubuike. Regarding MP2, he used to play with tons of intensity, usually when coming off the bench and sparking the team. Now he just plays without any energy, whether its starting or not. On defense, he'll overplay a guy on the perimeter who can't shoot, and then get beat because he's too close. On offense, in addition to travels and bad decisions, his ballhandling is not that great, and he just waits for the ball in the corner. Hitting that open three, half the team could do. Its better when he pump fakes and goes to the rim, but thats about it.

Even if he pump fakes...
I cringe half the time cuz he'll be called for a travel (review the move and he travels nearly every time, as do so many other players) or he'll step out of bounds.  He drives left probably 90% of the time from that pump fake.  Why not use your right leg as the pivot so you can drive off of it??  Unbelievably bad fundamentals.

Azubuike
looks good and has potential but he did have 5 TO and zero assits last night.  I think we have low expectations of the guy and he is exceeding them

Great and I hope he is on the team next year but one demensional scoring 2 guards aren't exactly saviors.  More like dime a dozen

we need
to run half court sets. All good teams do. the only exception may be the suns.
PLAY POB AND AB together more.

Any thoughts?
on Biedrins' fouls and the lifeless half court set?

Seems to me...
that many of AB's fouls come from the poor defense of teammates.  AB's not a great shotblocker, but he's paying for the mistakes of his teammates.  And of course, he gets more than his share of bogus calls.
