Why are Bob and Jim the Best Announcers Ever???

I need to defend them! My buddies always make fun of them since one time Jim compared Zarko to Pau Gasol. They say that they're biased and are the worst announcers ever and it makes me mad. They don't take the argument that they are not as biased as other announcers who only announce for one team. So does anyone have any reasons or anything to help me argue my point???

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

It's KINDA like Murphy and Leavy
They're not that bad, but, should never be together on a telecast.  PLEASE, throw Tim Roye in there once in a while.

It ain't EASY, stoppin' TOO EASY

Absolutely agree.
Though comparing them to Dunmurphy seems harsh, I do think Barnett is a little better with Tim Roye in there. Tim is great in that he gets incredibly excited, can really deliver some great calls for the home fans, but at the same time he doesn't often spout out the obviously biased statements. I think he tempers Barnett well in that way. Fitz... well, he wears his bias on his sleeve, and Bob&Jim together occasionally make my head shake. But they both know their stuff, and they don't make it boring, which is more than you can say for 80% of the rest of the guys out there.

For any Giants fans on the forum, we're definitely spoiled by Miller, Kruk, and Kuip, probably some of the best commentators in all of sports. Baseball just isn't as entertaining without them.

well
i think you think tim roye is like that because one he does radio and when he does it with barnett its a dual radio televised game. so tim roye has to sound like hes so excited and descriptieve. i like him and fitz but hey who was the voice of the 2k series for a couple years bob Steele/ Fitzgerald!

Hey...
I remember that. Bob Steele and Rod West (Rod Brooks) now together again on KNBR at Noon. I used to think it was funny how Rod would pretend to be an ex NBA Coach for the in game commentary. And you have to love the Pornstar names that they used for the game. what was that all about, not famous enough to use their real names?

by olympicmike on Mar 19, 2007 1:25 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They aren't bad...
but they ain't too good either.  I guess to think positively, it could be a lot worse, you could have Bill Walton commentating all the games.  There are lots of other commentator duos that are worse than bob and jim.  I actually think they aren't that bias when it comes to giving the opposition their due respect.  Jim does make his fair share of dumb comments and comparisons, but overall I don't mind them that much.  Think about it like this, if they weren't bias at all, would any warrior fan want to hear them talk if the whole time they were talking good about the other team?

by david240z on Mar 18, 2007 9:44 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

announcers
are supposed to be a little biased...no one wants their announcers to bag on their own team....but i think jim and bob do a good job of saying when the warriors suck (well...alluding...they cant really just say it) barnett is pretty knowledgable, and although corny sometimes, i think hes a good play by play guy....and who doesnt love fitzgerald and his "YES SIR"s....and that buzzer beater in dallas last year, thats the kind of passion that makes basketball games fun to watch in my opinion..thats pretty much why i like them

I forgot about the Sac announcers!  They are HORRID!  Esp when they had that girl, which i can say since i AM a girl.  I couldn't stand her!  And now she's calling games on ESPN!  They really need to work on their announcing staff, it's really going downhill.

3 words- he got it!
how can u not love the way bob goes crazy and gets so into the game when u, the person watching, feels the same. how crappy would a boring announcer be?

by twelve years on Mar 18, 2007 10:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

bob and jim are speaking as warrior fans themselves. watching TNT games with the warriors sometimes bugs me cause marv albert and doug collins or something never has anything positive to the warriors evne when the warriors do somethign crazy.

They are Warriors fans themselves! I really enjoy listening to them during games. The TNT guys really don't give a dam* about the Warriors.

Fitz is great.
I think Fitz is a great announcer. Jim on the otherhand says the most obvious things. I forgot what he said one time but it was along the lines of "if you miss a shot, you're not gonna get points."

I love Bob and Jim
they are both knowledgable and fun and good guys to listen to.  Jim Barnet is especially knowledgable and a very cool old guy.  of course they are going to be a little biased because they are only brodcasting toward warriors fans, thats theyre job.   but they are pretty unbiased because they often admit when the other team gets a bad call called on them and stuff like that.  Tim Roye is okay.  he is a really good radio anouncer and i like listening to him but i definately like my boys bob and jim

i think that you'd be hard pressed to find a more enthusiastic announcer than fitz. he really makes the game fun to watch. jim is just a really cool guy, and he's very knowledgeable. their both kinda biased but personally i like that.

You guys don't even know how lucky we are
Anyone with league pass would know how comparitively unbiased Bob & Jim are. Especially Jim! Honestly, to me it seems like he goes out of his way to be unbiased sometimes, like reverse-racisim except it's reverse-biasness. Like some calls that could go either way he'll go the Warriors got lucky on that one. But seroiusly, anyone with league pass knows Warriors fans are lucky. Take last night's game for example. Sonics announcers wouldn't ever admit a Sonics player fouled, and would always call it "good defense." It was especially funny one play they replayed slowmotion Collison blocking Biedrins on a dunk attempt and he got all arm, seriously his hand didn't get as high as the ball was and it was very obvious the refs missed one, but the Sonics guy is like Great defense by Collison! Anyways moral of story is we're lucky to have Bob & Jim.

Seriously
Some of the commentators are just ridiculous.  They definitely know who is signing their pay checks.

by jrichordieflyin on Mar 19, 2007 12:08 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Eh
I think that point is really driven home w/MLB Extra Innings...the gap between "everyone else" and Krup/Kuip/Miller is immense.  The gap b/t Fitz/Barnett and everyone else is...eh, not so much.  It's a combination of Barnett being senile and Fitz not having any kind of background as a play-by-play guy.  His enthusiasm kinda makes up for it but for those of you who remember Greg Papa doing warrior games...greg papa, he is not.

I wouldn't be sad losing Fitz on TV (as long as you keep him on radio...he's one of the more knowledgable guys out there).  Who does Kevin Harlan do games for?  The T-wolves, right?  I'm sure we could send foyle/POB/fitz over for KG/Harlan...

I had league pass for the last three years...
while I was at school.  Maybe I drank myself stupid, but no one is as bad as the Padres announcers or the White Sox announcers.  Conversely, no one is as good as Kruk/Kuip/Miller.  They're the best in all of baseball, period.  I don't think Fitz/Barnett are in the same eschelon, regardless of how craptastic Cle/SA are.

by GameSix on Mar 19, 2007 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed with GSW4Life
Having league pass, I feel blessed to have Jim and Bob. The only other announcers I liked were the Blazer announcers. They had nothing but good things to say about the Warriors when we lost to them a week ago. Those Sonic announcers on the other hand were garbage. They kept saying "good defense" when they kept replaying their one good defensive play and that was more Biedrins missing the lay up than good defense by the Sonics.

yeah we are lucky
when i get free league pass i like to listen to the other teams announcers, and we are like oneof the best. here is my top 5

Cippers: They have pretty good voices and say the right stuff

Celtics: if you hear them they got that old voice that just sounds cool

Warriors: bob and jim are a good duo

Cavs: The guy makes everything sound like something big is going to happen no matter what it is

Miami: Good voices but it was better when they had fratello

my low 5
Bulls: They make you want to go sleep

Mavs: Just listen to the jrich shot on there side and that explains alot, and the guy just sounds like a  dumba$$

Pacers: Now how in the world can you make murphleavy sound like the best players in the world?

all espn annoucners i dont know why they hire them TNT always got better people talking about a game than them

well i cant think of the 5th team but yeah

Sorry i dint pick our warrior team as #1 but if you got league pass or nbatv you will understand my list, but feel free to give your list and oppinions to mine

I think Fitz's call on that game is on par with the guy who called the Big Game finish in 1982 (Joe Stargy?). You do not see any excitement like that anywhere. How can you not love the guy?

i'm from CAL, so i always love seeing that video. love how it was the best play in the top 50 most spectacular plays on best damn sports show.

btw, how did u embed the video? i tried doing that in some comments, but i get some HTML error.

by goldenchild on Mar 19, 2007 1:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Embedding
Yeah, I had to play with it to get it work. Basically, you copy the text from the "embed" box on the YouTube page, and then delete two bits of code: (1) all the stuff starting with "object width" before the first "embed"; and (2) the phrase wmode="transparent" which for whatever reason our board doesn't like.

If you have time, test it out here with "Ellis to the Rim" or something...

by Sleepy Freud on Mar 19, 2007 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think
they are okay.  They don't get crazy over call or non-call, admit when the Warriors foul the other team.  I can't say they're great but they're okay.
I remember watching on ESPN when they played a Bulls game (because it was a close game, but wasn't the one game scheduled on national TV) and the Bulls announcers went crazy and said "THAT WAS A FOUL! THAT WAS A FOUL!!" Bob and Jim remain relatively calm when they see those kinds of situations (close game and maybe got robbed by the officials, which probably because the Warriors have been robbed the officials since forever).

Matt
reminds me of the creepy guy that drives around in the ice cream truck lurring away little kids, something about him just screams creep. Maybe it's because he's a horrible broadcaster. Jim and Bob are good though, they make the game a lot more enjoyable because they have a lot of the same passion that we do because they're real Warriors fans.

How can you hate on Fitz who was the announcer on the 2k Basketball series by SEGA before they went all ESPN. Jim is all right the only thing that bugs me about him are the broken record sayings he keeps repeating; how about coming up with something I haven't heard all 82 games.

these guys are great
ilove fitz's enthusiasm, also they are both very knowledgable, and really when you are the team play by play guys you gotta be a little biased, in essence you do work for the team. i feel like they are both pretty even handed when it comes to foul calls either way. jim barnett reminds me of that cool grandpa that your buddy has that knows all this stuff and you could just sit around and hang out with him for hours. i really don't think the bay area fans realise how good they have it. some of the best broadcasters in sports work right here.

I think Jim and Bob are the best!  Of all the other announcers i've heard (and i'm pretty sure i've heard most of them), i think they both do a great job at not being utterly and completely biased towards the W's and at the same time having good knowledge of the game.  Sometimes Jim makes cheesy comments, but he's old, give him a break!  Oh, but i don't like Steinmentz.

The worst announcers in the Bay are the Giants announcers.  GAG!  I wish Greg Papa would go back to calling A's game with Ray Fosse.

what did you smoke today man?  I have high standards, I want us to show nothing but love for the W's, whether it means turning the cheek on their fouls, calling out another team's dirty players, giving our guys a little extra compliments and less criticism... how are those low standards?  i'm not saying to be happy about losing, i'm saying, stick up for ur own damn team instead of coming on here and complaining like a baby about every little thing.. it's funny that your low "standards"  probably were what pushed people like you to actually defend murphleavy, i wouldn't put it past u.

Aight...
I'd say fitz is the college frat guy and Barnett is the professor.  Fitz isn't very knowledgable when it come to basketball or sports for that matter, look at the shlubb, he can't even tie his shoes without doing three times.  Barnett on the other hand does.  He knows whats up.  Many years in the NBA as a player and as an announcer are all the reasons to love him.  BOTH FITZ and BARNETT hare homers till they die.  Barnett is funny as hell when the Dubs are behind by 11 with 2:21 left in the game and says, "hey they are still in it!".  Yeah no crap, until the buzzer blows, in theory, they are in it.  Come on Barnett, just read the little graph on the tv provided by FOX sports net and they will give you the probability of the Dubs winning down by 11 with 2 minutes to play.  Funny, funny, funny.  All in all they are deacent in comparison to thers around the league.  We need Papa back in a bad way though.  And from another post here, when the Dubs are on NBA TV, ESPN or TNT they get NO LOVE at all.  On NBA TV against the Clippers a week or so ago, the announcer said that with 3 minutes left and the Dubs not making a shot for like 3 minutes that the Clippers will come back even thought they were down by 6.  What a hater!!!

Uuha, uuha, uuuuuha...Besides, Baseball is for non-athletic fools who never got out of Jr. High English and pre pre algebra.  Chewing tabacco and seeds are what they are good at.  Maybe walking left or right for 1 second then paly with their ball sack and look at the hotties all day is sports?  If golf, pool and darts are "sports" then so is Baseball I guess.
