OPEN THREAD: Game #72 - Warriors vs Spurs

Yes, but can that fish rebound?

Warriors (W-L): 33-38

Spurs (W-L): 49-20

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV: FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 680

Last night's loss to the Lakers at Staples was tough to swallow, but it's time to get right back up and try to take down the San Antonio Snores at home tonight. While the Warriors are coming off a road loss, the Spurs are coming off a "last second" win against the San Jose Sonics 120-79.

Keys to the game:

  • BLITZ! Keep the tempo at 90mph from the get-go. The Spurs are nowhere near as fast or as athletic as the Warriors. Jump on them early.
  • Don't complain about the officiating and whine to the refs. The Spurs already do plenty of that. Let them be the ones who suffer from technicals and bad calls tonight.
  • Move the ball around with sharp, crisp passes. The Spurs play great defense and one of the keys to beating tough D is passing. If the Warriors rack up silly, unforced turnovers with lazy passes this game will be over fast.
  • Throw in a little 1-2-2 or 2-3 zone defense every now and then to confuse the Spurs. I'd rather have Tony Parker shooting jumpers then driving to the hole.
  • The R word. Let's do it.

Vegas Odds: Spurs by 4.5 (as of 5:38pm PST).

Predictions:

  • Warriors by 3.
  • Baron Davis and Jason Richardson both bounce back from sub-par efforts and do some serious damage against Tony Parker and Manu Flopobili..
  • Rasheed Jackson doesn't get a technical foul tonight.
  • The Warriors' bench steps up big time.
  • Tim Duncan grabs 15 boards.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

THROW UP A W!

i was channeling the preview spirit and got a little impatient, but glad we've got the thread underway.  go dubs!

fyi, that fish book is awesome, anyone with little 'uns in the family should get it.

Big Timmy
The big fundamental will probably grab 20 boards pretty easily if Lamar Odom can.

Regardless, I can see the spurs playing down to us and I really think we have a chance to pull this game out.

energy
can we please show some energy from the beginning of the game tonight? the third quarter comebacks are thrilling but i'd rather see it in the first quarter.

if they lose
KISS THEM PLAYOFFS GOODBYE!

The skepticism is warented
Understandably, were all upset about the loss last night. However, this is a tough spurs team and losing to them isn't the end of the world. I realize that it will hurt to have lost two in a row which the suns next and the rockets right around the corner, but as far as I'm concerned it isn't over till we notch the 42nd or 43rd loss. I really still feel we can get in with 40 wins. I know the clips have won a few, but beating the Bucks by 1 doesn't nail our coffin shut.

I've been skeptical all year, but this team is playing with a fire I haven't seen in a long while. The energy is there and competition isn't lights out. I wouldn't get too discouraged yet.

foul trouble?
let's relax on the fouls, everytime parker comes down the court I just want someone to juke him into falling. Sort of like in remember the titans. next time he tries to jump into someone instead of just trying to make a lay up, the person should move out of the way. See Tony Jump. See Tony Fall.

again, jackson should never shoot
does he have to go 0-30 before he understands it?

by AJC3317 on Mar 26, 2007 8:23 PM PDT reply actions

defense please?
allowing 70+ points in a half? ugh. and the spurs aren't really known as a great offensive team

was a hardcore spanking. Warriors need a serious 30-0 run.

I love J-rich
but zero points for him and Al?

And last night 2-12 with 9 three attempts?

Good players never have back to backs like this

GARBAGE

i said....
I said this last night and it somewhat turned out right.
If we can stay within twenty at halftime we have a chance. We are down by 19.

Throw up a L
Looks more like a L's instead of a W's now! We are looking at 2 games back. What losers! Dont the players have any pride?? We sell out Oracle Arena every night and they still play like crap.

by ballin on Mar 26, 2007 8:58 PM PDT reply actions

what the hell
baron was going for the ball on that foul

by machinecog on Mar 26, 2007 9:13 PM PDT reply actions

alright
2 games back, phoenix on thurs. hopefully we'll have a better showing

by AJC3317 on Mar 26, 2007 9:16 PM PDT reply actions

wow
I have not seen them play this bad in a while...

by machinecog on Mar 26, 2007 9:24 PM PDT reply actions

2 games behind
2 games back, yet the Clips have to play 2 more games than we do. Hopefully we can get some rest, get some momentum going, take 8 out of the last ten, while needing the Clips to lose at least 6 out of their last twelve. Golden State fans: IT CAN YET BE DONE. Even though jrich od bdiddy (or both) may not be back next year, we have a looming dynasty ahead of us; we just need mullins (the farce) to sign Ellis and Andris for a long, long, time.

by jtoj @ Golden State Of Mind on Mar 26, 2007 9:25 PM PDT reply actions

Rough night for Richardson
23 minutes
0 points (0-7 FG)
0 rebounds
0 assists
0 steals
0 blocks
2 fouls

In the most important game of the year. Blech. Yes, I still love him, but it has to be said: he's totally let us down the last few games. And he is not a franchise player.

by Sleepy Freud on Mar 26, 2007 9:32 PM PDT reply actions

Yes
But I hope two bad games for J rich wont have everybody screaming for a trade.. we all know he's better than this.

by The City Warjorz on Mar 26, 2007 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Sadly...
I can't agree with you, cuz your sleepy, but I can't not agree with you there either... so we'll leave it at that.

ugh
what part of that stat line doesn't make you cringe

by machinecog on Mar 26, 2007 9:36 PM PDT reply actions

ouch.
We're winning vs PHX. no way the team and J-Rich don't rebound from this.

by bradyk2 on Mar 26, 2007 9:52 PM PDT reply actions

YOU KNOW...
the SPURS are gonna win when DUNCAN make 6 out of 7 freethrows!  He sucks a$$ at the line and he goes like 85% from the line!

Oh yah and it doesn't help that JRICH and HARRINGTON combined for a whopping 1 point!  WOW!!!

GO WARRIORS!!!

"If you build around them...they will come!"

Tim Duncan's career FT: 68%
So, yeah, instead of 6-7, he probably should have gone 5-7. That one point was clearly the difference in the game.

by Sleepy Freud on Mar 26, 2007 10:02 PM PDT up reply actions

get real!
Man! get real wid your predictions.

Warriors win by 3?

Let's face it. They ain't goin to da playoffs!
