Where is a Warrior Fan Supposed To Go For College???
Ok, I am pretty pissed right now because I was just rejected from my Top 2 Choices. Cal and UCLA. But I guess I need to make a very hard decision now. I probably will plan to become an engineer hopefully industrial or civil maybe. I got into Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Cal Poly SLO. I applied to USC but I don't really wanna go because it is a lot of money. I can probably afford it but I just don't wanna spend that much money. So what should I do??? And where can I continue to cheer on the Warriors even tho it's probably nowhere since I didn't get into Cal.

i feel u dude
ucd for me though. so naturally i voted for ucd, but it all depends on your major. indeed, sd is more prestigious and has a better engineering program but ucd is closer to oakland so u still have the possibility of attending a game. if u go to sd thats highly unlikely. i suggest u visit the campus and decide which one suits u best. good luck and i hope you the best in college.

USC all the way
Before I graduated from St. Ignatius in '99, I had my heart set on going to UCLA. I didn't get in, but I got offered an academic scholarship to USC. I went there and had a total blast. I even ended up going there for grad school to get my journalism degree. Great college, awesome sports, TONS of good lookin' chick-a-dees. And what do you know, I nabbed myself a sweet job at KCBS, the number one station in the country's 4th largest market.
But that was just my experience. good luck

well...
I would say Santa Barbara. Because of the simple algebraic transitive rule: If A=C, and B=C, than A=B.
Warriors fans = Chill.
Santa Barbaraians = Chill.
therefore,
Santa Barbarains = Warriors fans! :D

UC-SD! UC-SD! UC-SD!
The one major drawback with living in SD is that it's THE worst sports town in the nation. Get NBA League Pass and NFL Ticket and you'll be fine. Go to Charger vs 49er/ Raider and Padres vs Giants/ A's games and you'll feel like you're in the Bay Area. Other issues with living in SD is it's a pretty conservative military town (I wasn't feeling it) and the ethnic food aside from Mexican is pretty terrible. Some of the best weather in the world though. SD makes you soft!
UCSD!

UCSD
It's gonna take NBA League Pass to watch Warrior games down there. It's Fakerville. Make sure to check out Seau's in Mission Valley. Best sports joint in SD!

UCI is my bias, UCSD is best for u
However, honestly, UCSD is the best ranked school with great programs. I wouldn't go as far as atma and say its above usc or ucla, cuz i mean, who are we kidding? but according to age and ranking, ucsd would be great. either way, ur going to one of the top 20 public institutions in the world. be proud baby. 1 Dub.

shouldve applied to pacific
based on athletics (men's bball, specifically) SB, Irvine, Cal Poly and Davis are all in the Big West. which fortunately for me, is dominated by Pacific. at least davis has football too. SD simply has crummy DII sports. and you probably know the Trojan's story really well...#1 preseason football team, and a stellar hoops team with OJ Mayo coming in the fall.
we get sharks games on fsn here in stockton, but no warriors games because it's "king's country." so you're probably out of luck in the other places because theyre all farther from the bay than stockton, except for online streaming video or other means.
otherwise, based on academia you probably want to visit each campus and see what resources are available to undergrads. you will probably want to examine class sizes and faculty/student ratios too, but i imagine for the public schools that there are several hundred students per class. if you plan to go to grad school, you may want to see how each school best positions you to do that (factors like accessibility to faculty, etc). and even then, resources don't matter if you don't take advantage. so choose carefully with no regrets, and best of luck.

2006-2007 Big West BBall Standings (Final)
Cal Poly (2)
UC Santa Barbara (4)
UC Irvine (5)
Pacific (7)
Who dominated huh?
LOL STOCKTON REPRESENT!

recruiting wise...
pacific has the best coach and the best coaching staff in the conference, hands down. 3 consecutive conference titles, plus transforming olowokandi from a basketball newbie to the #1 draft pick his senior year don't happen by accident. granted, he didn't pan out, but that's more of the NBA's and his problem than the coach.
i guess what i'm saying is that the big west is a crap conference, and pacific is positioned to be at the top of it until they hopefully decide to go to the WCC. but at least they get their spot in the national limelight the same amount as Cal does, while only sinking in 10% of Cal's basketball budget.

Civil engineering?
I don't think the college matters as much in engineering as in some other careers, the rich civil engineers I know made their money from their marketing and business skills and not from their academics. The construction cycle is more important than the schoool attended. I'd recommend a decent schoool with lots summer or part time work at a busy firm and spending as much time as possible on construction sites so you learn what the real product looks like and how you can design it so it is easier to build.

I would suggest Cal Poly SLO
- because I go there and there's a good amount of Bay Area people (I see warriors fans every day) and you can always watch Warrior games at this restaurant called The Shack or on your broadband league pass.
- because it's an awesome school for engineering and most people get recruited for jobs before they even graduate from Poly and it is a lot cheaper then the other schools on that list.
- but If you want to go to the best overall school on that list I'd take UCSD and if you really want to go to UCLA or Cal, I'd suggest looking into transfering from a community college because it's the cheapest and you have the best chance of transferring into the school of your choice because it's easier for community college transfers to UC's.
