Monta Ellis, a flopper? (quick poll)

-> Yahoo NBA article <-

Funny that they have Rashard Lewis running over Monta Ellis as the photo accompanying the article, a guard being run over by a near 7 foot forward, thus Monta probably got there first, planted, and took a charge. Lewis' expression looks like he knew there was nothing he could do about it at that point.

I dunno about you guys but I don't think Vlade Divac, Monta Ellis in that order.

We really don't need to have any more technical fouls for the Warriors sake for Gilbert to get more egomaniacal over.

Would calling techs on supposed flops be all right with you guys? How do you think this is going to work out? Instant replay checks? A bad idea all around?

Monta flops
but it is not nearly as bad or refined as Steve Nash, Ginobli or Haywood.  Haywood is probably the worst since he's a seven footer.

Seriously, I hate flopping. So yes. I want people to get owned for it.

Playoffs in '07, baby!

Tech for a supposed flop
then a second tech for arguing the call with less slack from the officials for arguing any calls = thrown out the game!

Van Gundy shouldn't talk as Yao sometimes looks as if he's flopping, regardless of him simply losing balance or not, by the way.

I don't think...
That Monta flops much.  You might dislike all the charge rules in the NBA, but i feel he at least earns his charges with the rules, as opposed to flopping.  He's quick enough that he can get good position.

The other way around for Monta.
On the other end of the court, the opposing team flops all the time when Monta goes to the rim. Often times, Monta's already passed the ball and a defender moves into his path and tries to get a call. Happens all the time. One day he's gonna get hurt. Wait a sec, he did - James Posey should have gotten suspended on that one.

My thinking is...
that Monta doesn't really need to fall onto the floor to get a charge.

by yuletak on Mar 7, 2007 4:52 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

but
its not like monta has much of a choice. he's almost always the smallest player on the floor and we are talin about some seriously big men running him over. hes falling down, but its not fake

I think...
if the player knocking you down is smaller than the player taking the charge, the player taking the charge should get a T.

also,
they need to do something about the "pass and crash" too. those are always are always an injury waiting to happen.

by llamalimbo1 on Mar 7, 2007 6:58 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

sometimes he probably does
i'm just glad the nba is thinking about doing something about it and i hope they find a good way to enforce it

monta takes charges
by staying infront of the offensive player and moving his feet.  when he cuts them off and they are to slow to react and change direction or slow down then they just plow into him so he falls.  thats a good charge.. its lame when someone passes it takes 2 steps and then someone slides infront of them and flops for the pass and crash.  that gets me the most mad out of anything.

after reading that article
why don't the dumbass f***ing refs just make better calls god damn.  if you make the right calls consistantly then people won't go for the charge anymore.  but i think the refs are uncapable of doing that so fines, or technical fouls would be okay.

I think the NBA should
take a rule out of the international Futbol rules. They give yellow cards for obviously diving(flopping). And I would love to see refs hand out technicals on Shaq and Jermaine ONeal as they try to draw charges from Monta.

pass and crash
I've got no problem with the rule as long as the refs make sure the defensive player was in position long enough to give the offensive player time to avoid him. Monta is learning, he went around a guy last night to avoid contact!  Sometimes it just an accident where both go to the same spot and neither is at fault so they should just no call that.
The defense has to be allowed to stand somewhere without getting fouls called on them, what bugs me more than the pass and crash is when a player jumps into the defense and draws a foul on some poor guy just holdin his own spot. I think whoever initiates the contact should be at fault no matter if it's offense or defense.

I say...
You should not be allowed to take a charge if you are more than 6 inches taller than the offensive player.

by bradyk2 on Mar 8, 2007 11:39 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

You should not be allowed to draw charges if you
weigh more than 10 lbs. than the "charging" player. I'm definately talking about your fat@$$ Shaq.
