Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

lol @ ATH reporters

on around the horn today they had a buy or sell on the 8th spot in the west. only one reporter picked the warriors to get it (mariotti), while two picked the hornets! that's insane if you ask me. but it just goes to show that the national media are still not paying attention to the warriors even tho we've been playing amazing basketball lately

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Once again
Unwarranted jumping onto the chris paul bandwagon.  This whole season all I've heard is how dangerous the Hornets are because of Paul.  He's good, but Baron is much better this season.  Baron will never get his props.

stupid
around the horn people. i hope they notice that the hornets are technically 2 games back cause we own them! and have they seen our schedule the way were playing against these teams looks like its gonna be easy. i know it aint over but its looking sooooo goooooood

that ain't the worst
i watcehd fred carter last week once say the warriors 2 up coming games would be huge as they try and get to the 8th spot???? what??? then he said they were three games back and that would be too much of a gap, when really the graphic they had up said they were a game and a half back and he didn't understand the warriors had played two more games than the clippers?? what a knuckle head. then some other dude on nba tv game night last night picked the clippers because he didn't know which warrior team was gonna show up??? he said they were too inconsistent??? what??? i'm thinking if you are a so called expert and your getting paid to watch a sport shouldn't you actually watch what is going on?

oops
i meant to say there 2 up coming games against the clippers

it's all good...the national media never needed
to give the Dubs attention until now...i think its more then possible that the dubs make it and i like the fact that the media is putting more pressure on these other teams and doubt the Dubs cause it seems like Baron and J-Rich and the rest of the team thrive off of that...only good things can come out of this.

by RubberDubDubs on Apr 11, 2007 4:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Being a fan of both teams....
I'll say this. Baron has more skillz, and Chris has more team skillz. Get it? As in, I'd expect Baron to make an amazing 3 to win the game, whereas I'd expect Chris Paul to drive and kick it out to another guy for an open shot.

Who would I rather have on my team? No Idea.

With his past behind him, Adonal looks toward the future, wherever it may be....

Yeah...
no need to get all riled up about these national guys.  Most of them just blow hot air outta' their you know whats.  All we need to care about is that the W's make it to the post season!!

by yuletak on Apr 11, 2007 4:55 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Holy f*ck
The stupidity of those guys is staggering. Do they even look at the standings? It's not about which team is "better" in a vacuum -- it's about the fact that there are four games left in the season and the Warriors own a virtual two-game lead over them (b/c of the tiebreak). Basically they have to go 4-0 and pray we somehow go 1-3. The mathematical odds table posted earlier gives them a 5% shot. And that chart doesn't even take into account the facts that
  • We're totally kicking ass
  • Paul is playing with a fractured foot and Chandler has been out with a messed-up toe
  • We have 2.5 home games (Sactown will be almost like home) to their one, and no long road trips
  • Our remaining games are against: one mediocre team (SAC), one bad team playing without its best and third-best player (POR), one bad team in full tank mode (MIN), and one good team who'll be resting for the playoffs (DAL, who, those asshats might be interested to know, we've beaten four straight).
lol indeed.

Edit
Oops, they could beat us if they go 4-0 and we go 2-2, or 3-1/1-3. The other points stand.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 11, 2007 5:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Edit 2
Just talking about the Hornets, obviously. The Clips of course still have a very good chance to beat us.

DAL, who, those asshats might be interested
" to know, we've beaten four straight)"

That's disturbing to consider cause that means dallas is due for a win against us? We are not four times as good as them!

thats exactly
what i did not want to think about...

You'll be relieved to know
That probability doesn't have a memory.

If Dallas decides to let their big guns stay in Dallas for that final road trip to GS and Seattle -- if they come into the Oracle with a weaksauce lineup of guys like Diop, Buckner, and Barea, on a night when we're so close to the playoffs we can taste it -- well, let's just say I like our chances.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 12, 2007 12:04 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They can
say we're inconsistent because the first 75% of the season we were, but with our team healthy the last 25% of the games we've been very consistent in our play with the exception of the home loss to the Spurs. I'm pretty sure our dubs don't care if none of the experts are behind them, they know the fans believe in them 100%, hence why the Oracle is one of the hardest places for a visiting team to play with how loud and rowdy it gets.

So let everyone doubt while we quietly sit back and play our game. We'll do our talking to all the doubters when we match up against Dallas.

i don't know why
but i think i would prefer being doubted. it's a perfect boosting mechanism to prove them all wrong.

by allthatjazz on Apr 11, 2007 6:01 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

yes...
im more worried about the clipps. even though they are .5 game out, they still control their own destiny(if they win out)

my flukyiest playoff prediction is this

NO goes 4-0
GS goes 3-1
LAC goes 4-1

That would put ALL 3 teams at 41-41, and the Warriors have the better conf record!

Here's
an article by Janny Hu in today's Chronicle explaining the tie breaker situation.

Janny, bless her soul
Is a little off. On two counts, actually.

First of all, as I mention in the diary above, the tiebreaker with the Clips doesn't matter anymore. We'd have to lose the one semi-tough game on our schedule (at SAC) and lose all three easy ones, for it even to come into play. Chances of that: less than 1%.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure the first tiebreak among three teams is the overall record in head-to-head games among the three teams. I think if the Hornets beat the Clips that last game, that would be us ... but if the Clips won that game, it might be the Clips. The Hornets would definitely be out b/c they have losing records to both of us. But don't quote me on that yet ... I'll do a little research and get back to you.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 11, 2007 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Whew!
We do indeed win the 3-way tiebreak, regardless of what happens in the final NOK/LAC game. The first tiebreak is, as I suspected, best overall record in head-to-heads, but that would make us and LA tied (at 5-3), so we'd go to the second tiebreak, conference record, which we win.

Make sense? Woo-hoo!

Liked Zorgon's reply.
After watching Paul with Monta in the rook/soph game. I can say that Paul is more smooth than Baron, whereas Baron can dominate the point position.  I doubt Hornets can play well w/ an injured CP3, Peja, and Tyson Chandler, who had a great season.

by MVP on Apr 12, 2007 12:05 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't get me wrong
I would probably take Paul because he is going to be REAL good.  However, he is not quite ready to be a dominating point guard that single-handedly carries his team to the playoffs, no matter what kind of injuries his team has, like the national critics would like to believe.
