ANDRIS IS NOT EVEN AN MIP CANDIDATE

At least according to the ESPN Shootaround crew.

Star-divide

He didn't even get a mention!  Somehow they put Luol Deng and Iguodala in there though.  I'm a big Dre fan, but Philly sucks and he's been playing garbage time pretty much the whole season.  The other candidates were Monta, David Lee and Deron Williams.

Just another reason we NEED to make the playoffs.  People need to start respecting the W's.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

i dont understand how
how did monta go over AB? not to take anything away from monta, but he was putting up similar numbers per 48 minutes as last season, whereas, AB has absolutely changed from a garbage time player to one of the better centers in the league, and hs stats are mor improved per 48 minutes too
please dont hold me responsible for any comments i make...im stupid as hell

exactly!
monta is the shizzle!!! but beans wasn't even in the same category!?!?!...ok, the question is are they going by most improved stats or are they going by most improved player that helps a team win?...the national media is way to confusing...they should make a most improved most valuable player award cause I don't even know what they base thier predictions on...

o ya
wasnt kevin martin supposed to run away with the award, and now hes not even a nominee? im confused
please dont hold me responsible for any comments i make...im stupid as hell

man seriously
it's cause Sac didn't make the playoffs but statisticly he is the most improved right?  Ok so what is Most Improved Player award now like a minnie MVP award??  WTF?!?

by RubberDubDubs on Apr 11, 2007 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

my bad
Martin was the last guy they mentioned.  ESPN is all screwy.  They said they had 5 candidates and then they went and listed 6.

by dirrty on Apr 11, 2007 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

wow, now thats ridiculous
cause monta has already been talked about in the national media and the rookie challenge game he was the least boring player to watch but like i said earlier i think this is a good thing cause it seems to be driving the dubs to get better, like what you said, people NEED to start respecting the Dubs and in order to do that the Dubs need to make the playoffs...The national media seems to be helping this cause.

by RubberDubDubs on Apr 11, 2007 5:00 PM PDT reply actions

Screw ESPN
they don't know what they're talking about. Watch AB win it.

by Psion on Apr 11, 2007 5:01 PM PDT reply actions

no way
This is downright ridiculous. He's not even considered? Complete travesty, especially with the way he vamped up his game.

by Caught Backcourt on Apr 11, 2007 5:01 PM PDT reply actions

Rediculous, but
Philly is 10th (ahead of knicks) and hell, they might even reach 9th by the end of the season. They'll be nice next year.

these awards
are annoying sometimes cause it's so up in the air as to how they're judging players.  Like i said, i'm a big Dre (Iguodala) fan.  I've been watching him since college and i knew he'd be good.  He was playing behind AI and now he's THE man on that team.  But there's a difference between improving game you didn't necessarily have and improving stats because you're getting more minutes.

The year Gilbert won it, i actually thought Troy deserved it cause he worked on his game and improved.  Whereas Arenas wasn't really getting steady minutes the previous season.  It's not like he was crappy and suddenly started playing better.

And that's how i feel about this whole AB/Monta thing too.  We all saw flashes of Monta last season in limited minutes.  But who ever thought AB would be a KEY piece to our success?  I know i hoped he'd be good, but i wasn't really expecting it based on what we'd seen.

That's
weird cause just the other day I was reading something on espn.com about the most improved player and the guy who did the article picked AB to win the award. Hella weird how he's not even considered for the award now.

these awards could go to anyone depending on
lots of factors that have nothing to do with game play. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but it is ridiculous that he is not mentioned as a candidate. I wouldn't downplay Igoudala's merits for MIP though. He's been sick this year. His minutes have increased a tiny bit, but his improvement is more due to him having freedom on offense now that the original AI is gone. I'd still go for Biedrins over AI2 just cuz of what y'all said, Biedrins has made a bigger improvement from last year.

he should be in the mix but....
i hope he doesn't win b/c that would just jack up his contract value a couple mil when we go to re-up with him...no doubt it's either him or monta for MIP, but i like the fact people sleep on them...it makes them a little cheaper for us to keep.

Wow
Deron Williams "improved", yeah he did. But he was a top 3 draft pick, that should of been expected of him.  Same thing with Deng and Iggy, top 10 draft picks and vets already.  Like one of the guys said, Andris went from bust to a 10-10-2 60+fg%, promising star.  My MIPs would have to be Andris, Monta, K-Mart, Barbosa, David Lee, Al Jefferson, and maybe Josh Smith if you wanna push it(fantasy bias ;])

AB
the only ones to not include him is this stupid ESPN Shoot around.

by Psion on Apr 12, 2007 2:14 PM PDT reply actions

He didn't even get a mention!
Maybe it's cause of his ugly freethrows and lack of range on his shots? If he learns to shoot more than 6 feet from the basket he'll have a better chance at props?

by Skeptic con Urquell on Apr 12, 2007 3:23 PM PDT reply actions

Biedrins deserves mention...
I feel torn really about Biedrins potentially being MIP.  The commments made above i think are totally valid, lottery studs who are expected to make an impact should not be considered or considered less...but what happens when the draft is all about investments in "potential" than actual legitimate skills?  How could you make that distinction?

I think we forget that Biedrins is also a lottery pick, a low one at that.  His huge improvement over the last season should be recognized, tho not necessarily valorized to the point that we should be considering him the next Amare or something of that nature.  I don't mean to rain on the parade, but the guy is incredibly efficient and is a hardworker on both ends of the floor doing all the dirty work rebounding, blocking/changing shots, and defending the biggest dude on the court...

BUT the glorification of his efficiency fails to take into account that the dude has absolutely no post moves or finesse beyond dunking distance.  Without the great penetration of his peers, could Biedrins try to score on his own?

Granted, my argument is based solely on offensive merits and its hard not to think this way given the fact that the league and fans are more excited about tight dunks and exciting acrobatic plays (i'm not hatin, i love that stuff myself too).  I like Biedrins and thinks he's done a tremendous job this year, but am just a little hesitant to crown him MIP, tho he def. deserves some consideration.
