Thank you NBA refs

Thank you NBA referees...for reminding me why I declared you worst officials in all major sports leagues many years ago. I didn't see the game, but I did keep track on Yahoo and checked the comments in the official game thread, and each page refresh just got more and more ridiculous.

Star-divide

On the other hand, thank you again NBA referees...for giving our team chips on their shoulders. Knowing that the series is now going to Oakland tied with game one in the bag, and knowing how badly the refs have screwed them, the Warriors are gonna show up on Friday hungry, and we all know what happens when this team gets hungry.

We officially have a series now. I've told my friends many times that this is going seven games, and it's starting to look very likely.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

I will be surprised
if the Warriors win another playoff game this season. They had a golden opportunity to put away the Mavs, then go home with a 2-0 advantage. Instead, the players lost their tempers, lost the game by a big margin and allowed the Mavs to mentally get back into it. Had the Mavs won by just a couple of points, they would have still doubted themselves against GSW.

Believe me, I am rooting for GSW to win this series but it does not seem likely now. The Mavs are back into it mentally; now the Warrior players are doubting themselves. Even home court may not be enough to beat the Mavs.

However, if the Warriors surprise everyone by winning both games at home, I will be thrilled.

humbug
leave you phony! Have some confidence. That is exactly what is lacking in all g-ddamn sports in the bay area, no faithful fans. That is what I thought i lost when i found a blog/website like this with guys that actually have hope. Well I was wrong. I know the loss may be getting to me, but if the fans don't even have hope, the players sure as hell won't.

Why can't we beat them?
Why can't we win the series?
Why can't we go all the way?

according to you it was because the Mavs got back in mentally.

The players aren't at all "doubting" themselves, it's half-assed bay area fans like yourself!

Obviously
you havent't witnessed the power of a packed Oracle Arena with fans that haven't sniffed a playoff game in years. It is going to be electric. Our 3's are gonna go in. Jrich will get on track.

You're probably right
But only if the rest of the series is officiated like game 2. :P Otherwise, prepare to be surprised.

I know you wanna be "realistic", but look at it this way: game 2 was very similar to game 1 in that it was close for 2 1/2 quarters until one team somehow managed to pull away (by hook or by crook), and the final scores had nearly identical margins of victory. Warriors bandwagoners say the Dubs will rebound and dominate, while people like you say the Mavs have regained their composure and will now dominate. I say the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Don't discount the team just yet. Last time I checked, only four teams have better homecourt records than the Warriors, and the best of those teams already lost their series advantage to us in that regard.

I am appalled.
Refs should never dictate the outcome of a game, ever.  They are there to enforce the rules WHEN THEY NEED TO BE, in order to keep the game under control.  First of all, this was a game until the start of the 2nd half when EVERY SINGLE QUESTIONABLE CALL went to Dallas.  Fucking ridiculous.  The Refs shouldn't have the power to control the outcome of a game like they did tonight.

Lets see, Tim Duncan gets ejected from a regular season game for laughing. Consequences of his actions??  The Ref gets suspended until the end of the season.

Baron Davis gets ejected in a critical junction of a NBA playoff game for fucking clapping.  I am speechless.  If this ref doesnt get punished for this then the refs will be giving every questionable call to Dallas this series.

Fuck the refs, you guys arent there to dictate the outcome of a game.

And another thing, this is PROFFESSIONAL SPORTS.  PLAYERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SHOW AS MUCH FUCKING EMOTION AS THEY WANT.

Heres an idea, restructure the nba fouling system so it takes power away from the refs, making the NBA more objective than subjective.

God damnit refs, know your role in the game.

Monta couldn't have easily been
called for a charge on that 4th Q drive and Jackson wasn't fouled on his shot at the rim in the 4th right before Stack's foul at the rim but I bet you only recall Stack getting the call.  Am I right?

dallas
also played better than the warriors.

u have to concede for this series the foul calls will go to the mavs

by jrizzle on Apr 25, 2007 9:53 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

if
the mavs lost 3 of their players and had 34 fouls called against them they would have lost too.

Nuff said.

what ?!!!!
i love the vash01,s bandwagon fans thoughts. nice job listening to the "experts" and re-hashing there thoughts. look man this sight has alot of REAL die hard warrior fans that really understand the game of basketball and come with alot of good insights and thoughts. if all your gonna do is pretend your a fan and do your best charles barkely impersonation you can feel free to leave!!!! it was a tough hard fought game, some calls seemed questionable but the fellas have to play through it. the dubs were in it even when dallas was making their run. so it's over, they got the split and now the whole nation get's to see what a real home court is, they get to feel what playoff atmosphere really is!!!!
GO WARRIORS!!!!!

just put this game behind us
and concentrate on winning at home. at least we stole a game at dallas. the calls will go our way and the shots will fall for us. hopefully we'll get a set of officials who can actually call a good game like Dick Bavetta.
i just renewed my belief in the Warriors! So much that i'm a season ticket holder for next year! GO WARRIORS!!

That's the attitude I was going for
I just wanted to vent my ever-continuing frustration over NBA referees, while also trying to bring focus onto the next game. It's not over until it's over.

Bottom line: we sucked.
This was likely one of our 4-5 worst-played games all year. 9 assists, 24 turnovers? Is that possible? In 2 minutes, Sarunas had as many dimes (2) as Baron and Monta combined for -- in 65 minutes. That's pretty much all you need about the game. NBA refs suck, to be sure, but they had basically nothing to do with this loss.

Our offense has basically been total crap both of these games. Somewhere between Dallas and Oakland, we've got to find the slick Nellieball of the last 20 games. I'm guessing the 20,000 crazed fans at the Oracle will help us do so.

I say we take all three at home and keep the series from ever going back to Dallas. Who's with me?

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 25, 2007 10:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

the turnovers were crazy
it seemed like every time the dubs came down the court the ball was flying up in the air, and a lot of times it wasn't caused by the dallas defense. the dubs palms just seemed sweaty. that was the story, but the refs definitely didn't help.

and the format is 2-2-1-1-1 so even if we win both at home we're still coming back to dallas

by AJC3317 on Apr 25, 2007 10:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

D'oh.
That's right. It's just the finals that are 2-3-2. Actually, I think I prefer 2-2-1-1-1. We run them off the court in 3 and 4, catch our breaths, let them eke out game 5 in Dallas, and then put the hammer down Game 6. Sound like a plan?

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 25, 2007 10:45 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

sounds good to me
i too prefer the 2-2-1-1-1 format. i don't know if miami would have won in the finals last year if they didn't have the 3 games in a row at home to gain the momentum.

i expect the dubs to win game 3 with the crowd rocking behind them. game 4 will be a bit tougher tho since the mavs will have gotten used to it, but hopefully we can pull it out

by AJC3317 on Apr 25, 2007 11:36 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don't blame it on the refs.
Bad calls or not, the reason we lost was because our 2 best players were in the locker room ejected when we needed them.

by bradyk2 on Apr 25, 2007 10:30 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Our 2 best players gone in crunch time
And why? Because of trigger-happy refs.

Yes, the rest of the team should've stepped up, but I can imagine that being tough when you're going up against two teams at once.

by J-Triumf on Apr 25, 2007 10:52 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Game was basically over after 3
The only reason it was only 12-14 points and not 25-30 was the Mavs shooting 0-15 or whatever from downtown.

The refs sucked, but c'mon: they weren't actively trying to make the Ws lose, and they didn't decide this game. I think the Warriors to a man will admit as much.

Really, do we have to have blame the refs after every loss? It's kind of "boy who cried wolf" at this point. There certainly were a number of games this year that were stolen from us by terrible calls. This likely wasn't one of them.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 25, 2007 11:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't blame the refs after every loss
And I know certain players failed to step up on their own accord. But once I saw those numbers in the foul column just pile up and saw the play-by-play update flash the word "technical" multiple times I knew something was fishy. I would have reacted similarly if it was the Warriors winning and Nowitzki getting ejected, because, win or lose, it taints the game.

I'll concede that the Warriors were outplayed, but you should never dismiss that X-factor...after all, these are NBA referees we're talking about.

For all the crap you guys dish about the 06 finals BS...you sure cry foul when it happens to you.

Whiners!
Look at all of you whiners....!!!! WHINERS...! that is right....! I'm an ex-Warrior fan turned Dallas Fan and admit that some times there are calls that are INEVITABLE. I have not yet read a comment on how the Warriors got away with their fouls...! it's basketball, you play with your hands therefore you will get hit at any given second with the opponents hand. PLUS, it's playoffs. refs are calling everything they can see.
As a player you should understand that the refs will make some calls that you will not be happy with......

Let's talk about BARON DAVIS, shall we...! talk about whining...! every foul he committed he pretended that it never happened..! bull.....ssshhhhh..! don't come to the ref and try to persuade your way when your entire body made contact with Howard..! that is right, i'll go ahead and mention instances in which he was wrong..!

The better team won yesterday, and proved that they are a good team. They have their faults, but they don't let it get to their heads..! Hey Dirk, didn't score big, but at least Dallas is a more around team when it comes to shooting the basket. Harris, Terry, Howard; how about Stackhouse....he really stepped up and showed every one how to get up after falling.

Sorry GS fans, but the truth hurts...! LOL really..! yeah..! bring it....we are coming to "ya house" and will kick some butt. remember Dallas is a great team on the road...not only a good home court team.....REMEMBER THAT

Ex-Warriors fan
Now a Mavs fan.

I'm guessing your "conversion" took place at a moment when the Mavs were kicking ass and the Warriors were terrible ... right?

And now you troll in a Warriors chatroom after a tough Warriors loss, talking trash and disrespecting the Warriors' fans and players.

Wow. I've seen some classless behavior on this board, but that may take the cake. Just ... pathetic.

Mavs fan now
and in a year when they suck, you become a Cavs fan...hmmmm, do i see a trend here?

here you should try this: be a loyal fan for one team only in your lifetime...trust me, it feels good...win or lose.

WORST OFFICIATED GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN
While watching this game I realized that we were going to have to fight through the calls like we have all season, in the 2nd quarter we got a fair amount of bad calls and I think we ended up being down by 2 at the half.  This team is resilient with all the bad calls that occurred in the 3rd quarter, I'm pretty sure we went to the foul line either once or none in that quarter and there were plenty of fouls on shots that the warriors were taking.  It became a blatant disregard for any foul that Dallas was committing.  That charge call on Jackson when Howard basically ran under and set up while he was in the air was the beginning of the end.  I'm not sure how much basketball you all watch but I've been following this team since 1990 and this was by far the WORST refereed game I have ever witnessed, I told my friends while watching the game that if I was on the floor I would have decked a ref in the 3rd quarter and I was proud that the warriors to not take it that far.  Even when we were being ref'd to death we still were only down by 9 how can any of you say we played a horrible game!  Hello there were at least 10 calls going against us in the 3rd quarter alone and another 10 that weren't called for us, that's 20 extra possessions, figure you score on half of those you should be easily up by 20!  Dallas is sorry the fact that the only way they could beat us was to get the most helps from NBA Refs in history or at least in the last 17 years I've been watching.  We're going to kill them in game 3; you'll be hearing me in the stands on Friday!!!!  I'll be the one yelling "NBA REFS ARE TOOLS!!!"

by warriorsfiend on Apr 26, 2007 11:38 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

that charge was awful
we've all seen some terrible charges called this year but that one takes the cake by far. usually the defender at least stops his sideways momentum first, but howard never did.

by AJC3317 on Apr 26, 2007 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think
everyone in the crowd for game 3 should throw dollar bills on the court as the refs are being announced so we can buy some calls like dallas did. this would be hilarious

im not serious btw.. i know this would hurt us instead of help.. i just think it would be funny!
