Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

All things being equal, the reason the Warriors lost :

It was the damn free throws!

Both teams are evenly matched.  The Warriors HAD THE GAME WON!  Despite being out rebounded and despite Monta Ellis not letting Baron rest more. The Warriors had the game won if they just made their free throws.  Utah made their free throws. The Warriors didn't and that's why they lost.

Let's face it!  The Warriors have a lot of great scorers.  But they don't have pure shooters. And they are among the worst free throwing shooting TEAMS in the league. And this time it came back to bite them in the butt!  RUN TMC had great free throw shooters like Mully, Mitch Richmond, and Timmy; Even Roonie (Sarunas Marciulionis) made free throws.

Pietrus just kissed away his contract extension along with those lame attempts at free throws.  That's really too bad because he plays defense and makes threes and is athletic. But he simply makes too many basketball errors like unnecessary fouls and reminds me of Pedro Feliz who makes too many baseball errors like failing to move the runner to third with less than two outs.

Baron missed a critical free throw but he almost willed the Warriors to victory.  JRich missed two free throws and then missed another making 2 of 3.  Harrington missed a few free throws. Only Biedrins, lucked out and made his two.  Jackson had a off night but made some shots down the stretch and made  two free throws during OT.

It was the free throws!   If they made a few more this game would've been won.  If the Jazz had missed some near the end they would have lost.

I calmed down a bit after the game saying to myself it's great the Warriors are in the playoffs.  Come home win two with help from the home crowd and go on the road to steal one from the Jazz in Game 5 and then come home to win it in six.  But they lost tonight and coughed up the win.  This is the time! Now's the time to win. Forget about next year!  The Ws have a chance to win and advance!

Jack
Jack was pretty horrible. considering he was 4-18 in the field with 2-10 in threes. he also was blocked in this game too many times also. bye pietrus. The rest of the players did fine.
I still think we gun take this series 4-2

s jax....
has had two rough games to start this series, he has been taking some crazy shots and trying to fish for fouls. ak47 is killing him...it will be nice to get sjax home.

Atleast
you calmed down, I'm still completely heated because we should be up 2-0 in this series but instead we're 0-2, these two home games are must wins. I'm still going with my Dubs in 6 prediction.

those freethrows....
every GSW fan knows to fear for Pietrus when he isn't hitting his shots because of his frail psyche. That first miss probably got to him... thus resulting in a 2nd miss. All and all, not a bad game, easily could've been ours but I was actually surprised we managed to do so well when we are totally dominated on the rebounding front. Let's keep the undefeated-record-at-home intact for these next two games! GO WARRIORS!

HAVE FAITH
...in the great Baron Davis.

He'll do his job. The role players need to do theirs and they simply choked tonight. Jackson had Kirilenko on him. Pietrus needed to make those FTs.

I was at the game and Utah is NOT terribly confident right now, believe me. They DO NOT want to play us at Oracle.

another thing is
defense, rebounding, and layups will almost always beat 3 pointers and fade-aways, even if its kobe.

true
but there is nothing we can do about rebounding. there is no way the Warriors can battle with the Utah front-line for position under the basket, boxing out against Utah? Nahh... and even though Utah had more rebounds, the Warriors almost won... not too bad. Not bad at all.

but i do have faith
and i realize that we are just as good as this team, we are coming home, and we only need to win one on the road if we win out at home.  and i have faith in baron and i still believe.

proud to say i have not blamed the refs...
...even once, up to today, but the first half was so bad my behavior towards the TV forced my girl to head upstairs and declare that she would not watch another minute with me.  we come down, drive to the lane, bump 2-3 bodies, miss the shot, no call.  they come down, spin into the paint, shoot a little floater, MAYBE get handchecked, make it, and 1.  at one point i just stood up and yelled "it's over, they're not going to let us stay in this!"

...to their credit, the officials woke up in the second half (with the exception of getting sucked into the D.Fish emotion tornado and calling a man out of bounds who was a good 12" from being such), but i honestly thought that with all the matchup things we couldn't deal with, the fact that we weren't allowed to make a stop in the first half (which is obviously how we ignite our offense and do what we do to be successful) without being whistled was going to doom us.

props to our boys for fighting through like always - it would just be nice if we didn't have to quite so much.

LACK OF INTENSITY?
Anyone else feel like the WARRIORS are playing down to the JAZZ?  Not to say that the JAZZ are weaker than the WARRIORS, but the W's were juiced playing the MAVS and now it seems like we're taking this team lightly or something!

Although BARON has had big games, I still don't see him having that "fire" in his eyes!  They're not going out there and attacking, attacking, attacking!

I want to see more intensity, especially on the road!  I know the W's are gonna get hyped once they come back to the ORACLE, but if we don't re-gain that FIRE, we can kiss the rest of the playoffs good-bye!

GO WARRIORS...TO THE NBA FINALS!!!

on Pietrus
He is a terrible shooter and is extremely foul prone.  He's only effective if Baron Davis is throwing lobs for him(why haven't we been doing that btw?!!)  I wouldn't want to resign him for more than 4 mil per years.  We should really try to keep Matt Barnes instead!

St. Jax
I was watching St. Jax on the defensive end. He was pretty much on the perimeter guarding whoever. BUT, once a shot goes up, he just stands there...leaking for outlet to start the fastbreak.

I think, since he's one of the taller players in this small ball lineup, he needs to help out on the boards. Why not have Baron and/or Monta hang around for the outlet instead? He only grabbed 3 rebounds last night, and one in the first game. I sure hope this is not by design because we could use his height.

im pretty scared
when ANY warrior goes to the line, surprisingly with the exception of Biedrins.  At least with him, the expectations are low so if he makes one it's celebratory.  but really, i don't think you can count on any warriors to make freethrows consistently, maybe the exception being TMNHarrington.  how sad is that?
