Why I like Golden State fans

Just in case anyone is unaware, I am a Jazz fan.  But I wanted to give props to you guys.  You are probably the most tenacious and toughest fans in the NBA.  I understand why Oracle is such a juggernaut.  Honestly, I'm a little anxious about the next 2 games in this series.  You guys know how to bring it.

Yeah, you rag Utah fans for stealing your gimmicks (which they have), and for booing at anything that goes against the Jazz, but isn't that what being a homer is all about?  It really isn't different at anyone's home arena.

You guys have also been really classy about Fish and Dee Brown.  That is huge to us on the outside of Warrior Nation.  In one of our games against Houston, D-Will crashed into Battier and was on the floor for quite some time.  The rockets fans responded by chanting "Utah sucks" and calling him a little girl.  Berating opposing players has a long and proud tradition in the NBA, but you gotta pick your spots.  When a guy is on the floor, and his status is unknown - that's not the time to be a tool.  GS know when to push and when not to.

Anyway, that's why I like you guys.

As fun as he is to have around, basketball games are more entertaining when we're winning. If I want a French dude to entertain me, I'll watch Cirque du Soleil.

I'm STILL laughing.

Thanks
I've been very impressed with the Utah fans during these first two games.  I'll admit that I've had a lifelong bias against the Jazz because Karl Malone is honestly my least-favorite athlete of all time, but I can respect this current Jazz team and their very knowledgeable and passionate fans.  I think the Warriors will take both games at Oracle, setting up an absolutely insane final three games.

As for Fisher and Dee Brown: first of all, everyone's thoughts and prayers are absolutely with Dee.  That sort of injury transcends sports, and I just hope he's okay.  And ditto for Fisher: what he's going through right now (if the rumors are true) is a horrible experience for any parent, and I wish him the best.  I don't think he had the sort of career at / exit from Golden State where people were really going to razz him too hard to begin with in these next couple games in Oakland, but given the circumstances, I hope we show him some support.

Then I hope we dunk all over him and the rest of your team.  Enjoy the ride, and GO DUBS!

Karl Malone
Has a LOT of detractors in SLC.  Some people are still bitter that he turned into a marshmallow soft jumpshooter during the finals.

yeah
I wish Derek and Dee all the best. I'm still cringing about Dee's incident.

That aside, yeah, we know we're the best fans in the NBA. Sorry shadowboy but Warriors fans > Jazz fans.

;)

impressed with the Jazz fans?
...last night they booed the entire time we had offensive possession.  not the behavior of people who know basketball.  stay classy Salt Lake City.

by 321 IN n OUT on May 10, 2007 7:58 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Please take into consideration
That Salt Lake has only one real big time sports franchise.

No NFL.  No MLB.  No NHL.

The Jazz are it for us.  So we gotta put all our eggs in that basket.  Our fans boo when a call goes against them, correct or not.  Is that weird?  Seems to me like it happens everywhere else, too.  I'm not sure how that relates to our knowledge of the game.

Anyway, go ahead and be a hater if makes you feel better.  That's not my game.  I can appreciate your enthusiasm.

And good luck in the upcoming games, although I think the Jazz need luck more than the Dubs at Oracle.

Peace

where in my post do you read about calls?
...man, this seems to be an epidemic around here.  people hit reply, then don't actually reply directly to anything.

so, to follow you off subject so that you're not sitting in the corner talking to yourself, yes, every arena's fans boo calls against them, whether it's a good call or not.  i stood quietly in section 217 as everyone around me booed baron's early game offensive foul on devon harris, a foul baron clearly delivered on purpose to send a message, a foul he didn't even hesitate to argue himself.  we fans indeed do not respect calls against us, warranted or not.

regardless, not the issue.  the powder blue-clad hitler's wet dream that is the EnergySolutions Arena crowd booed our entire possessions.  not calls, but the entire half of the game that we were dribbling, passing, shooting, the ball. real basketball fans cheer their team on defense too.  they don't pre-program : cheer when white jersey have ball, boo when dark blue jersey have ball.

dude who cares if fans boo all game long...
jeering the opposition is what we're supposed to do anyway. Now if they did stupid things (see Detroit), then that's something else.

Oh come on
What would you have them do--wear What Would Stephen Jackson Do bracelets?  I don't mind them booing us on offense.  Objectively, I'll take passionate fans over apathetic ones any day.  Now if they were to boo one of our guys getting injured, then yes--that'd be a demonstration of having no class.  But they cheered their team on consistently throughout the games--cheering loudest for good execution and hustle, showing their appreciation for the game--and they rooted against us.  We'll do the same starting Friday night.

I'm not saying Jazz fans are better.  (and neither is our resident Utah...uhh...Utahian?  Utahese?  Utaho?  I'm going with Utaho.)  The loyalty, knowledge, and passion of Warriors fans is unsurpassed, and I'm damn proud of that fact.  I'm just responding to a considerate and classy post, and acknowledging that Utah's supporters have stepped it up this series (especially compared to, say, the presumptive "have we won yet?" attitude of a lot of Mavericks fans).

by WorldBMe on May 10, 2007 8:38 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Technically, Utahn
But I think Utahoo is more appropriate.

Utahns? No, more like Utards...
Utards is what some call them...That said, I agree that passionate fans earn respect & Jazz fans are OK (more heart than Mavs fans, for sure).

Utards...
that's pretty funny!  I'm gonna have to file that away for later use.

I have to say
Jazz fans > Mavs fans

The Jazz fans who've come to GSoM during this series have been for the most part very respectful and come to talk hoops. The Mavs fans? Well, I hope they've gone fishing along with their annoying, overrated team.

it's ok
even though you are a Jazz fan, at least you are cool and respectful.  I hope if any of our fans are on other teams blogs that they are just as classy.
