Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

What was Nelson thinking?

When Deron Williams had two fouls, and came back into the 2nd quarter with about 9 min. left, why the hell didn't Nelson tell Baron to put his ass on the block and attack. How did Williams pick up 2 fouls u say? Because Baron was just abusing him in the start of the 1st. What's the logic in giving it to Steven Jackson to attack the best defensive player on the court. Nelson's a great coach, but he's not perfect. Why can't he play more players other than his 8 man rotation. What's the problem in resting his players?

Nellie- u didn't win any championships in your decades as a coach. Don't u think u should change a few things. And oh yea, I mentioned earler how Monta looked pissed in game 1, well did u see what happened in game 2. The kid gets called for 1 f..... offensive foul, and what happens next, Nellie takes his ass out of the game. Baron shouldn't be playing 45 minutes a game. After that offensive foul call, Monta doesn't even get back into the game. I said it before and I'll say it again. Memo to Nellie- Do u want Monta to become the next Chris Webber. This kid needs playing time, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to go someone else after his contract ends. Wake up Nellie and smell the damn coffee.

watch the defensive end too...
...he didn't take him out because of "1 f'n offensive foul."  granted the rope is probably too short for Monta, but to consistently watch him easily get picked off by a screen while his man drops a jumper is probably the larger issue.  Nelson's decided he can't afford to have Baron and Monta in at the same time in this series, and the momentum was clearly shifting in such a way that he needed Baron back in.

i don't understand
why pietrus gets such a long rope, and jackson too for that matter. their definitely making their share of mistakes when they're out there. either allow monta to play through his mistakes or shorten the leash on pietrus and jackson and bring in azubuike

I'm a huge Kelenna fan
When he first started as a Warrior, he was AWESOME. Recently, watching him play he's a little out of control; granted his playing minutes are garbage time and all he's doing is trying to wow the crowd. But seriously I wouldn't mind him getting some minutes in the first half. To me, we're a second half team anyway

are you crazy?
one of deron's fouls in the 1st qtr was due to BD, not 2.  jax can take it to the rack one on one but utah has great weakside D.  as long as jax can recognize where AK47 man is it, then he can dump it off.  dont get me wrong, jax is a malcontent... but  we would not be even in this position if it were for the trade and nellie.  let me guess if monty was still here or dunmurphy were still here we'd be in the finals???  lol... we warrior fans can be crazy sometimes.

Utah Cruising
If you look at all the stats, the only one which makes an incredible difference is rebounding.  Specifically, for Utah, offensive rebounding.  I said it before the series started (and I love the Warriors), and my sycophantic friends wouldn't listen, Carlos Boozer and Okur are destroying the Warriors on rebounds.  Even Kirilenko.  How many uncontested lay-ups after offensive rebounds did the Jazz get?  To my recollection, three in the last minutes of the fourth quarter.  Nobody is boxing out anyone.  The discrepancy on rebounds is why the Warriors will lose in six.  Milsap doesn't get uncontested lay-ups on put-backs, and the Warriors win in regulation.  Okur doesn't get offensive rebounds and put it back without a fight, Warriors win in regulation.  Offense is not the problem.  PLenty of points to be put up.  No rebounding.  Warriors top guy had like 7 or 8.  Boozer has had 30 in the two games.  Check out the stats on NBA.com.  WArriors tops in the playoffs on offense, and in rebounds, only better than Washington at a -7.75 per game.  Outrebounded last nigth 60-32.  Clearly, this is a do-or-die strategy.  YOu live by the three, you die by the three.  Cus you ain't go no D.

Monta
Dude - deep breath here!  This is not the next Chris Webber situation.  It's not even a situation.  Monta is in the NBA right now because Chris Mullin and Rod Higgins believed in him and drafted him in spite of his major knee issues and generally unrefined skill set.  And he's the NBA's Most Improved Player largely because Nellie identified quickly what Montgomery never saw, and gave him the chance to play a lot and flourish this year.

I'll agree that the hook is a little bit quick on him, but everyone (Monta included--but I think he does) needs to realize that this is not just some anti-Monta thing.  We cannot play Monta and Baron at the same time against Utah--they're just too big and too strong.  That being the case, who would you rather have on the court?  No disrespect to Monta, but Baron is our life.  I agree that Nellie could rest him just a bit more, and let Monta play a bit more; but Monta's minutes are going to be limited in this series.  If we were playing Phoenix, he'd probably get a little bit more leash to make mistakes.  (And yet--Monta looks horrendous on defense right now...)

Fine by me to let Monta play a little more.  I'm okay with Azuibuke playing a bit, too, as he can stretch the defense with his outside shot, penetrate, shoot free throws, and even rebound a bit.  But generally speaking, Nellie's philosophy is that he's going to live and die with his best players on the court, and I support that.

I'm not sure if ..
anyone saw this. But when Monta got called for that offensive foul. He got sent to the bench. He put his face in the towel for about 15 seconds, wondering what was wrong with him. He took his face out of the towel, and his eyes were watery.

We gotta give Monta a chance .. Nellie was even the one who said that we're gonna have to live with the mistakes that Monta makes. But now that we're in the playoffs, it seems so different.

It's too late to become better rebounders
Do you suddenly start boxing out with the current personnel?  Do you change it up so that Foyle and Powell are getting significant minutes?  No.  It's too late for that, and there's a reason why those guys weren't a big part of the playoff run.  At this point, you go the other way:  for more steals and more run and gun. We've already seen that the Jazz can double us up on rebounds and we can still have the lead. Just because basketball fundamentals say the dubs need to get tougher inside doesn't mean that's how they're going to win.

I'm on a dump the zone kick:  dump the zone, man up and let your steals be your rebounds.  Shorten their possessions by either stealing or having them put up a shot.  We can't stop the Jazz inside forces from doing what they do by matching up like they do. Guys like Millsap and Boozer are going to get their boards and put backs.  We have to make life hell for them while they're doing it.  More overplay, more steals, more gambling.
And would somebody go over and at least talk to Monta when he's got a towel over his head practically crying!  If nobody picks the kid up when he's down how the hell do they expect him to get anything but more out of sync!?

Amen, Beard.  (By the way--I started my own B Dizzle beard during the Dallas series, and I must say--I am starting to look really ridiculous...)

Monta
monta ellis will be the key in the next few games. if he can step up, none of the jazz players can match his speed and penetration. with that said, nelly cant afford to, especially in the playoffs, wait around for monta to wake up. he has looked confused on the offensive and defensive end.

he looked good in that one sequence where he splint booze and another jazz and caught the foul, thats wut we need more of. but if it isnt there, the playoffs isnt the time to find it.

i do however agree with the stephen jackson idea, he does look completely shut down by ak-47 and i think its too risky letting him go on as the instigator of the offense any longer.

i thought i knew but i had no idea
