Possible changes in the off-season

First of all I want to tip my cap to the Warriors on a fabulous season and strong push in the playoffs. It was damn EXCITING!!!

Now to the possible off-season moves.

The major move should be to lock down Barnes, Andris and Monte before anything. That is key to keeping our core group of players together for the long run. After, we can explore FA.

My own personal opinion is that we don't have to break the bank to obtain some quality post play. Our basic needs for the team would be a major post player, back-up PG & back up veteran center. We all know that Foyle and Jasikevicius do not fit Nellie's style. Also, Pietrus maybe a descent G/SF but his inconsistency from the line and from the perimeter makes him expendable. Last, Azubuike & Chabarkapa are good guys but I don't see them staying with the team.

So, if Nellie/ Mullie clean house or shall they say "Dump Salary" they will look at possibly trading Jasikevicius and our draft pick for a possible PF. That could be to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao. This would be a quality move for an energy guy and strong body in next to Andris. Another move would be to pursue the following FA: Chuck Hayes, Desmon Mason, Mikki Moore, Bostjan Nachbar, Maurice Taylor, Joe Smith, PJ Brown & Malik Allen to mention a few.

For a back-up PG and to elevate some of Baron's minutes, why don't we look at possibly picking up Sebastian Telfair. I am not sure what his status is in the league. But if that guy is available, why not!!

Another possible move would be to obtain Darko Milicic. He is a FA and would work perfect next to Andris.

If there is any way to pull off any type of trade with Atlanta for the following players we could ultimately move ourselves in a good position to be a power house in the west: Zaza Pachulia, Josh Smith, Sheldon Williams, Lorenzen Wright and possibly send Jrich, Jasikevicius, Foyle, Draft pick & a sign and trade of Pietrus.

Salary wise I believe this would work:

http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/golden_state.htm

I don't believe that obtaining KG, O'Neal, Gasol or Amare is actually possible with the knowledge that we Baron and Andris are coming up for   extensions. Don't get me wrong, if we can DO IT!! They are elite players that you do not pass up.

I believe this will be an interesting and exciting time for the Warriors. This could possible push us to the next level or bring us back down to mediocrity. Let's hope Mullie and Higgins has their V-8 the rest of the summer. Bring back Nellie!!! He is the key to our creditable resurgence back to an elite team!!

Go Warriors!!!!!!!

Wait a minute...
Did you really just name Joe Smith as a possible FA pick-up?

Sorry....I stil have nightmares of....
Joe Smith and his lanky frame trying to bang in the paint back when we drafted him....maybe the other options before considering Joe.

my thoughts...
First off i agree that we should not break the bank for a PF.  We did very well with our lineup as is, and I say don't disrupt that...and hopefully Al can learn to rebound.

It's just my opinion, since we did fantastically once our lineup was healthy, that we do not even consider trading JRich for a PF, unless it is someone of KG's level.

As for Telfair, he's an FA.  I would leave him alone though...he's been a bust, and we have enough legal problems with SJax.
I don't see the pressing need for a backup PG, presuming we can keep around Monta.

Like I said, we were a great team with our full lineup. 16-5 to end the season, and a playoff series victory.  I see no need to go mixing things up, when the team is clearly headed in the right direction.  I say, nothing drastic, keep the main 7 (MP2 if we have space, but the other 7 are more important), and draft or trade Foyle and Jasik for a 15 min backup PF who can rebound.

Yeah.
I can see how you could say that they did fine etc. But the fact of the matter is that they got tired. We need a bench, and we need someone to take up space inside. It just makes sense. So while I agree that we don't need to do much, I still think that if you don't have a four, you're asking for trouble.

As Long As Nellie's back..
next season, I'm confident that Mully, Higgy and Nellie will pull off the necessary moves to take the Warriors deeper in the playoffs next year... Throw out whatever names you want.. I ain't trippin..

As Nelson said:

how about this
i've always liked Reggie Evans as a rugged rebounder coming off the bench. he did it in Seattle...and he does it in Denver. The nugs have like 6 PF's on that team and really could use some help at the point. Cabbages for Reggie works salary wise and Cabbages is an expiring contract next year. so, denver may be willing to do it?? maybe we throw in our 2008 1st rounder for good measure (i'm thinking the W's will improve the W/L record next season and our 2008 pick will probably be in the 20's?

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

Follow up comments...
After rushing through trying to post my thoughts let me revisit my possible FA moves and also comment on other comments...

Let first say...Joe Smith is a FA not a viable one that I would want to fill our vacant or need of Power Forward. God forbid we pick him up. I would honestly prefer to do the following moves to get a legit PF and to bolster the bench.

I would trade Jasikevicius and our draft picks for Anderson Varejao from Cleveland. That guy can bang the boards and he probably can play a little center at 6-10 209lbs. Cleveland would probably have to do a sign and trade, for us we could sweeten the pot by also doing a sign and trade with Pietrus. Not a bad package considering they can sure up the back court and possible add a big man from this years draft to replace Varejao.

Then, I would try and sign Milicic since he is a FA. Rumor is he will test the free agency. Hopefully, Andris has been calling him up trying to persuade him to play at GS. He knows he will get the quality minutes and possibly play for a coach who already gives free reign to his players.

A quality off season move would be to look at adding some pop from the outside (Like we need anymore) by perusing Andres Nocioni. This guy is 6-7 201 lbs. nice big body who can rebound at the SF spot, good defender, and still works within the Nellie ball system. He would be a great compliment to Harrington.

The biggest trade possibility could be to go after Atlantas Zaza Pachuculia, Shelden Williams and Marvin Williams for Patrick O'Bryant and Jason Richardson. This will help both teams. Warriors can use Pachuclia at PF and have Sheldon come off the bench. Sheldon also plays center so he can work with us in playing small ball.

The last possible trade that I could come up with is Charlie Villanueva, Dan Gadzuric and Brian Skinner for Al Harrington, Patrick O'Bryant and Pietrus (Sign and Trade). This could benefit both sides with the Bucks getting a SF in Pietrus, Harrington who is versatile and POB as a foundation piece. The warriors could have Charlie step into the PF role as a starter with Skinner backing him up and GADZURIC to back up Andris and reconnect with the UCLA reunion that we have with Baron and Barnes.

On a separate note: I don't know the situation on Sabastian Telfair and I agree we don't need another head case but he is an impact PG who could help releave minutes from Baron. Ellis is not a PG and I feel Nellie has realized that also. His decision while playing point guard is really raw and we could just have him play off guard and spend more time on him working on his mid-range jumper and free throw shooting. Get him to recognize defensive sets and utilize his quickness on the defensive side, nothing like transition basketball on turnovers.

Potential Roster A
Davis
Ellis
Richardson
Jackson
Harrington
Biedrins
Barnes
Varejao
Nocioni
Milicic
Powell
O'Bryant
Telfair

Potential Roster B
Davis
Ellis
Jackson
Harrington
Biedrins
Barnes
Powell
Pachuculia
S. Williams
M. Williams
Telfair

Potential Roster
Davis
Ellis
Jackson
Richarson
Biedrins
Barnes
Powell
Villanueva
Gadzuric
Skinner
Telfair

I don't think we need to sell the farm to get better. We don't need to break the chemistry and obtain a high paid player who will handcuff us later down the line.

The emphasis is to sign Barnes, Andris and Monte. I can't stress how important this is to build a stable foundation for the warriors. We have to build smart and not throw money to players who are below par (Foyle, Murphy, and Dunleavy) and then stare at them sitting on the bench not being able to help us in the stretch run.

Jus my opinion....

barnes made a lating impression
so he could be gone next year, a forgot about really quick.

I believe if we have josh powell why have darko milicic!!!

if had to chose which i cant my starting five would look like this:
PG-BARON DAVIS
SG-JASON RICHARDSON
SG-STEPHEN JACKSON
PF-AL HARRINGTON
C-ANDRIS BIEDRENS

BENCH-
PG/SG-MONTA ELLIS
U-MATT BARNES
PF/C-JOSH POWELL
C-POB
G/F-AZUBUIKE
F-ZARKO CHAPARKAPA

I think if nellie stays then josh powell and pob will get no chance to play, but if kieth smart becomes the head coach they may be a big part of our team.
